When Archer was just summoned, you can see how surprised he is at first, but then he smiles. He didn`t lie, he couldn`t remember his past actually when he was summoned, but he remembered it when he saw Rin. UBW has so much moments that make sence on rewatch.

The reason Archer looks different than Shirou has to do with Shirou’s projection magic, basically his eye colour becomes silver and hair colour becomes white because he is his overuse/extensive use of projection magic causes the magic circuits in his body to slowly tan his skin permanently and slowly take away the pigment of his eyes and hair

The reason Archer uses the same two is because they're two of the most mana efficient to Project, and also because he and Shiro both feel like they perfectly represent how they see or saw themselves. Weapons that were never forged with the intent to kill. In a way, Archer still using them so reliably is a sign that even now he hasn't truly forsaken his past ideals.

True + Its been exclusively Stated in Material that Archer himself wasnt serious during the Whole War Because his Sole Objective is to kill shirou While Surviving Long Enough with the as much Mana in His Reserve as possible and if he will Try to go all out with Projection he might as well ended up killing his Own Master with the Amount of Mana he will suck

To clarify what a counter guardian actually is. CGs are heroic spirits who did not became a HS because they left their mark in legends or history. Instead during they life they made a pact with Alaya ( the collective will of humanity to survive ). With this pact their are granted a boon during their life but after they die they become HS who have to answer summons from Alaya. This is the difference between normal HS and CGs, as the former can reject a summon. In terms of Holly Grail Wars CGs work the same as regular HS. Also Shiro did not return his pendant to Rin but Archers. He found Archers pendant during episode 12 in Rins drawer. He even said when returning it, that he has the same at his house.

Trivia regarding Tokiyomi's (Rin's dad) death when he got betrayed by Kirei, it's not that he fully trusted Kirei. What shocked him is not only Kirei's betrayal, but Gilgamesh as well. Kirei noted that the reason that Tokiyomi let his guard down was because he also have Gilgamesh in that room (Dematerializing) so he thought that if he got attacked, Gilgamesh would protect him. Tokiyomi never noticed that Gilgamesh and Kirei was in cahoots all this time.

Ok so about Archer's past that will never be talked about in the animes Minor spoiler about the Fate route even though it doesn't have a proper anime: Archer = A failed Shirou primarily from the Fate route In that route, Shirou successfully saved Saber from her ideals and allowed her to think for herself and live in peace. All because he truly loved and cared for her But Archer failed to save Artoria from her self-destructive ideals leaving an unpleasant sour taste in his mouth in failing to help the one he loved so much. Now all that's left is a fallen hero desperate to fix what he thinks he's done wrong (Similar to Saber in that regard) and destroy the ideals he once loved.

Bazett, Lancer's original master, was betrayed by Kirei also. Shirou and Archer's connection was already foreshadowed in the first episode with the necklace. Caster even said when they met the first time that they were similar. Studio Deen's Fate Stay Night didn't really hide this reveal, since Shirou and Archer had the same theme and when Archer died he called Illyaverse the same way Shirou did, also the necklace was the only thing left after he disappeared

Independent action is a unique skill given to Archer and Assasin class servants. This allows them to maintain their form without access to a master for a limited time. Saber doesn't have independent action skills, so she will disappear without a master after a few hours. Archer favors Kanshou and Bakyuya because those swords match his fighting style most. They are also one of the least taxing swords to make as well. Now that we know Archer is Shirou, he is from a Fate route(Saber route) where he failed to save Saber's heart.

Assassin's do not have independent action as their class skill,only as a personal. (For example Rider here also have independent action despite not being an Archer as her personal skill at C rank whitch means that she can maintain herself without a master or eating soul's for a one day)

So, there's a lot of misinformation and miscommunication surrounding EMIYA. A popular belief is that the EMIYA in this route is Shirou from the Fate route, and subsequently the EMIYA in the Heaven's Feel route is the Shirou of this route. That's not true. This EMIYA does come from the Fate route, but not the one we play through in the original VN. Instead, he comes from an alternate version of the Fate route where he fails to "save" Saber and free her from her hang ups surrounding her reign as King. He then goes on his journey as a "Hero", travelling from warzone to warzone and beating the bad guys, saving and helping as many people as he can, etcetera. Somewhere along the way, he loses himself so thoroughly to his obsession with being a Hero and saving people, that Rin and all his other friends end up getting cut out of his life. We don't really know the reason for this, but it was most likely the result of him seeing how he was living his life was bringing them distress, and so he decided to distance himself so that they'd no longer need to worry about that. Anyway, eventually, he was falsely accused of being the mastermind behind one of the wars he helped end and subsequently executed by the side he helped end it. He died without regret or hatred. Then he became a counter guardian. And Hell began.

The Archer vs Shirou fight in the original Visual Novel in terms of writing was so amazing too, man. Nasu knew his shit when he wrote it. The Ufotable did a fine job adapting but man, everyone just have to at least watch the VN one.

For summoning Gilgamesh was used stoned skin of first snake that molted, since it`s part of his myth. You can even see in ep. 0 of UBW in box that Rin opened that her father left to her. For Caster catalyst was book itself that Ryonoske used to summon him. For Saber it was Avalon, sheath of Excalibur (guess now how Shirou summoned her again) For Assassin name of his class is pretty much catalyst of it`s own, if you plan to summon some form of Hassan. For Lancer catalyst wasn`t mentioned as far I remember. F/SN: Archer: Rin`s pendant Saber: same thing with Zero (kinda spoiler, but by the time UBW is unlocked in VN, reader already knows that, it was big part of Fate route) Berserker: some stone from ancient Greece temple tied with his legend. I might be wrong, but it`s stone that Berserker`s weapon was made of. Caster: wasn`t mentioned (or I just don`t remember) Assassin: since it was cheating, Caster basically used ground of Ryodou temple as catalyst to summon some Japanese legend tied to this land. Rider: HF spoiler Lancer: his original master was his distant relative or something like that, so it was family relic that came straight from him

@@BekindBekbek also the book wasn't a catalyst,it was merely some ritual spellbook but it's not connected to Gilles da reis he summoned him without one due to pure compatibility (Medea on the other hand WAS by Arthum summoned with one of her traumaturgy book's it was mentioned in Case files of lord El-melloi novel)

From the other hand this Lancer is such a beast, that it`s quite hard to figure out way to kill him at this stage of story without using plot devices. For understanding, in Fate route Gilgamesh himself spent half of a day fighting Cu before he took Lancer down. And from this times Lancer`s luck became meme in community.

Throne of Heroes, place where all Heroic Spirits are staying, is beyond space and time. So it`s possible to summon someone from the future, but there is at least 2 problems: catalysts for them doesn`t exist yet and there are no true heroes in present and future as far I know. Only those who made pact with Counter Force. Archer is one of the last ones actually)

Usually people only sorta-kinda get what they're talking about, then shrug it off. Your take on it by the end was pretty much 100% correct, at least to the extent it was explained.

Trivia as to how Archer is not pertubed by lack of mana, is because typically Archers have a passive skill called Independent Action, which lets them have free rein even with no Master and mana supply. This also lets them be MAD far away from their Master and do stuff.

13:06 You did misunderstand about appearances and gender of Heroic Spirits here, Crow. In reality they where born and existed like this from the beginning of their life, unless said otherwise. In the Nasuverse Its all depends on the different Worlds and Timelines (Routes) from where Heroic Spirits come from, and sometimes the Class Spirit Origin in summon. The Throne of Heroes exist outside of normal human plane time-space so as a multiverse library of sorts it can record ANY Heroic Spirit from ANY world and timeline if the qualification is there. Naturally they would look very similar in life to how they are presented as summoned Heroic Spirits, unless its an exception of some sort. Same with Noble Phantasms that once where great weapons or etc, they will be the same or somehow similar. Like Acrher that comes from the future of different 'unseen' timeline (Route) but in life used the Projection, a magic kinda beyond his physical capability, to upmost limit so much that his body begin to deteriorate, changed skin, eye and hair color. Medea was half-nymph, lesser divine blood human in life so she and her aunt Circe have pointy elf-like ears like that. In the main worlds and timelines of Fate, especially Fate/Stay Night, King Arthur (most time then not) usually was always born female. King of Knights, Artoria Pendragon. The exception to it for example would be the alternative World of Fate/Prototype where King Arthur is born a man, Merlin is female succubus (Fan fact: both of their counterparts JP VA's are the same but reversed for the two) and things are kinda bit different. So, yeah, its all real and they all come from their own versions of History but in the same 'multiverse' of worlds on the giant Time-Space Tree.

I’m a bit late to comment on this video for you to see this but in the chance you do, Counter Guardians are heroic spirits specifically chosen to go to certain places and points in time to keep humanity from being destroyed or a mass loss of life. The Counter Force also known as Alaya will also use natural phenomena sometimes but if something is to big to stop with something like that it’ll send in a Guardian. Also the true purpose of servants is to also protect humanity and the planet like if a Beast or singularly were to appear they could get summoned to fix it. The mages in holy grail wars are just abusing the summoning system that Gaia and Alaya would use to summon them to save thing so they can use the mana that the servants have to form the grail. Also servants are weaker versions of heroic spirits which you’ll almost never see a true heroic spirit. Heroic spirit/servants are also almost always far weaker than when they were alive. I say almost always because some get stronger when made a servant or heroic spirit. That’s because it’s best to think of a servant and heroic spirit like a cup or container and the actual person that they are as the liquid that fills it. For example Gil and Herc are so strong and powerful that they overflow and not all their power can fit so they are far weaker than when they were alive.

Archer Emiya is general indeed is exception, its hardly much happens in this franchise, save the few cases. Counter Force of Alaya loves them, uh. And about Counter Guardians being protectors of balance... Yeah, they are in truth more of the stripped of their Name Cleaners than that, to be able to achieve it. Fully under Alaya guiding control they exterminate (fully annihilate in some cases) any threat that is beyond humanity. They are no mere Human Agents or Rouge Servants, or Grands who can be allowed freedom in special cases. Archer didnt deserve it and he hardly knew what its really like to serve the World when he made the contract. Its the parallel to Artoria. The price for following the ideal to the end, even if it wasnt exactly wrong... Too great.

I still prefer red archer bcs how talented he is fighting with sword, using dagger, bow and shield. While Gil only depend on Gate of Babylon and shoots number of swords like cheating. He seems lack of fighting skill with sword. If he's an archer class, Gil should know how to use bow at least.

@@ssjokg4952 Archer and Kiritsugu to a certain point really believed that it possible to save everyone and this goal justifies any actions, which apparently isn`t true and what lead them to downfall. I believe (kinda headcanon if you wish) that Shirou figured out that his happiness in process of saving others, not in goal of "saving everyone" itself. And that there are boundaries that even he shouldn`t (or can`t) cross.
