The Twin Otter Is Gone! MSFS News 

Yes, I am part of the few that didn't have a problem or were disappointed in any way by the Twin Otter. Flies fine in all available configs for me. Love all the aftermarket liveries. This news REALLY took me by surprise. If they ever offer any sort of refund I'll of course take it, but I'm not giving up the aircraft.

That 2 minute long intro though whew.😅

The Twin Otter released poorly, but turned into an AMAZING plane to fly. They even did a complete sound overhaul in the last patch, which was one of the biggest complaints at release.

Great reviews and news as always. I bought the Twin Otter aware of the poor reviews, I used to work at Dehavilland. So it was a sentimental purchase. Yup, I was a bit dissappointed. The last update helped but I removed some annoying sounds and the made experience better. The Twin Otter has some good history behind it, and deserves to be a very good aircraft. I think Aerosoft missed an opportunity with this one. Maybe, some other developer has taken over the project and will release a much improved Twin Otter. If so, will I get a discount or a free upgrade?

I wish Flysimware or Milviz would jump on the Twin Otter. It would be awesome. I do have the current Aerosoft Twin Otter and it feels like a cheap free mod. I always hated it and just made me promised to myself that I would never get duped by Aerosoft again.

Honestly the twin otter is a great aircraft in its current state. They’ve done amazing work with flight dynamics, sounds and systems.

Well, I kinda like the Twin Otter despite the mixed reviews. The sounds got better after the last update. But the modeling are not what you'd expect today. That said, I sure hope it comes back one way or another. We need a Twotter in the sim.

I'm really looking forward to the PC-12; it'll be interesting to see how it competes with the free-of-charge (since it comes with the sim) TBM 930. BTW, it's not just the JF Warrior II that's been updated - all of their PA-28 products have been.

Sad to hear about the Twin Otter being pulled. I was looking forward to that aircraft when it released as it's one of my favorite. I'm no expert at aircraft performance, but it felt okay to me when I was flying it. If they re-release an improved version, I hope current owners won't have to repurchase it.

Thanks for the video! I picked up the Otter awhile back through the marketplace…”I know marketplace purchase” anyway I’ve flown it nearly 200 hours or so through updates it did get better I still fly it on my channel quite often. When it first dropped it was terrible nearly impossible to fly at low speed a lot of trouble with approaches and sounds were awful! This plane was meant to be stick flown through and through! And that is difficult even in current state! It still has its “quirks” however it’s better then it was. With that said it’s very strange how it was pulled in over 20 years of flight simming I’ve never heard of this. Hopefully they offer some sort of discount/refund…and if they do offer it again I’d like to see the 400 model with upgraded avionics. I’d be very cautious of purchasing anything else from Aerosoft however

It is a great add-on in my opinion. I don't like knee-jerk reactions but also it really would have been nice for the developer's customers who have purchased it to give us an explanation. I did once buy a lot of Aerosoft products but I then started to lose confidence in the developer ... non-replies to my questions and requests for support, or rather clipped unhelpful comments and a few other issues was enough to put them on my blacklist (and I do have one). I did like their products, though and it aggravated me to see them slide downhill. I have always wished to see Aerosoft come back up the ladder but haven't seen much movement in that direction since MSFS2020 came into play.

There are websites that I can't mention here where you can still get the Twin Otter even though its no longer on the Aerosoft or market place sites. I got it last year from the MSFS market place really never had a problem with it.

I also noticed the CRJ700 won't work now, we paid a good chunk o coin for that one

Re Twin Otter: it didn’t have to be that way. Canadian Captain Moustache had worked very hard to make updates to the flight model and Aerosoft supposedly issued a cease and desist. Would have been far easier to just work with him on it. I predict they will do this: release a new version with GTN support for more money (remember when in FSX they wanted to do that for GTN support?) and at the same time make some tweaks to the flight model which they’ll claim is an improvement but still won’t really get the job done. I think any talent they had employed in their company have moved on and they are struggling to make good flight models for some types of aircraft.

I checked my hangar and my Twotter is still there. I was concerned that Matthais may have come and taken it back. Hehehe... I know it's gotten bashed quite a lot but I really do enjoy flying it. Yes, I do use external sound files from FTSIM+ which does help a lot. It has it's quirks but me not being a pilot, I have zero idea of how a real plane flies. I just enjoy flying it around the Caribbean and South America. Hope to find out more about what Matthais and crew are planning for the Twotter.

Twotter mayhaps been bought by MS and will be reintroduced as part of future Sim updates by Asobo/MS?

I have an email direct from Aerosoft saying that they had sold the Twin Otter license to a third party developer. They did not state which developer.

Thx for the video, Shame over the Twin Otter, especially as I am one of those who bought it on release and love it. However, astride a few of the 40th Annivesary additional aircraft and Flybywire A320 and PMDG 737, the Just flight P29 aircrafts are still my go to private aircraft. I just love JF products. MSFS2020 has sooo much going for it right now. So, well done Asobo and all of the 3rd party developers out there.

Surprised to see this. The Twin Otter is the aircraft I fly most in my day job (as a Military Contract Pilot). I, like some others here, have been impressed by the performance accuracy. Some things to watch; # 1-2psi variations will make a huge difference on finals. Lead with a (very small) power change. Follow up with the the attitude, but the airframe is as speed stable as the real machine. # watch your weight. By default you will have a heavy Twotter. Lighten it and you will see the way the Twotter flies ‘most of the time’. An update to the 400 series with the Honeywell Apex is unlikely. I use that, and Viking is fitting Garmin G1000 now at customer request from the factory. The G1000 would be an easy update for the Sim, as would the -34 (hot and high) engine upgrade. The Apex system is only shared by the PC-12 and a business jet from memory. Not a popular or common system and definitely not viable for commercial development in a sim! Sounds are easy to rectify and, again as suggested, that has largely been addressed. The flight model seems to be bang on to me. Nil wind and at lighter weights I can easily bring it to a stop in a 500’ ground roll. As per the real deal. A 10-15 knot headwind and that can come back to a little over 300’ - again as per the real machine. Curious to see where this ends up. Several updates to the sim over the past few years have significantly changed the behavior of some aircraft. The MilViz/Blackbird PC-6 changed a lot with updates, as did the GotGrravel products. For me though, the DHC-6 flies very accurately, sounds are sorted. Expect some videos up soon, operating the MSFS DHC-6 into a number of different strips and scenarios. Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of people’s complaints? Working on that now… 👍🏻👍🏻 THEORY ONLY Sold to another developer. Income stream would have to stop to transfer the IP, therefore product withdrawn temporarily. New developer will expand on the product which would require some history with PT-6 emulation. The development team would have to be significant, experienced and committed, perhaps by way of recent expansion… I hope that Blackbird has bought it to expand, in keeping with their other PT-6 ‘runs on the board’. The PC-6 and pending Turbine Otter??? Just a theory!!

I already made up my mind that the Twin Otter was going to be my last Aerosoft purchase after the terrible effort made to rush it to market. It was awful at launch and isn't much better now! Sim Works Studio or Blackbird, PLEASE do a Twin Otter for us?? Yes, I'm begging. 🙏

Another informative Review as usual. Thanks. We just flew IFR from Barra to Dundee in the Logan Air Twin Otter and had a typically enjoyable and problem free experience. What is the problem with the Twin Otter ? The Otter has received regular Up dates with positive results throughout it's MSFS 2020 existance. As long as the promised support is maintained we'll continue to enjoy this rewarding Aircraft and won't concider a Refund at this juncture.

Off topic, but there's something wrong with Autopilot (in general), especially when it comes to approach & landing. :(

I have the Aerosoft Otter and my main complaint is coupling the tiller to the rudder - not their fault, it’s Microsoft that doesn’t allow access. Landing in wind can be squirrelly. BTW, it has been discounted for several months now.

I own and have no problem with the twin otter. It is a plane that is very useful when flying to and from VNLk airport.

Really ready to see the PC12. It will take however long it will take, but sure is dragging along. Lol

DHC-6 twin Otter has made some improvements over its first appearance. MSFs market place still carries it for $34.

They can take my plastic straws but they'll never take my Twin Otter! I have the Otter improvement mod and I usually am flying my Twin Otter pretty much every time I fly in the sim. I have had absolutely no trouble or sim issues with it. I know sound is an issue and water handling is horrendous but until Asobo fixes the water issues that will continue. I will keep my Twin Otter even if I was offered a refund.

Honestly I like the twin otter I don’t think it’s horrible so I’m curious about this. I’d like to know why people think it’s bad. I know on release the big rave were the sounds but that’s not make or break for me personally. I think the plane still flys and handles well. I do wish they’d add support for pms or tdxi nav systems though. I hope they’re going to bring it back better and that’s what this is about. It’s honestly one of my favorite prop planes to fly . And that’s coming from someone who really only likes high fidelity aircraft. I will say that I am kind of turned off by aerosoft as a developer. It seems like they make quick products and never come back to fine tune or make them better. I’ve noticed they tend to essentially release things and that’s pretty much the final version. There’s no continued support, I mean the last CRJ update was easily over six months ago maybe a little longer which makes me want to hold off on the a330 until I see a lot of reviews about it. I feel as if they have a cash grab business model over a good experience high quality product business model

The DHC-6 Twin Otter is still available in the marketplace. I don’t own it but I don’t want it either 😂 so I didn’t try to buy it. Great video btw. See you in Houston

I'm trying to buy a guitar from Germany and it keeps getting pushed back on instock times. So I was gonna look for another floats plane to have in MSFS. Went looking to see if the Twin Otter was still at $35 maybe I might snatch it up even with the stupidly high price, check a youtube review of it to see how it is. Wasn't there! I assumed that cause that high price that never dropped was not bringing in enough income to justify paying Microsoft to have it on their servers.But if it got horrible reviews also, with such a price tag, I'd guess it's getting revamped. If they keep the same storefront page and rebuild it, people will get it for free since they own that digital item. So submit a new DLC if it comes back to charge everyone again who wants to buy it in it's upgraded version. (That is if it will come back at all, but Microsoft is a huge potential marketplace, why wouldn't it) But if there's not any official details on why it's removed, it's making me think it's a contract/NDA thing. So maybe it's being forwarded to a new bundle/project/ maybe even for the 2024 game update with waterbombing, courier/transportation delivery stuff. We'll have to wait and see, I guess I'll buy that C337 with the twin tail booms. I always liked those as a kid, never seen one in real life.

It's not just the Warrior. Their Arrow III and Arrow III/IV Turbo got the same update treatment. As for Aerosoft: I don't care for how they deal with the public. There is a certain arrogance level that I can't abide. I haven't bought any of their products in 8 years because of that. Not used them either, to be clear. I don't pirate things in any way, shape or form. 100% legal.

I like to fly the Twin Otter, if you ignore some annoying noises from the auto trim system.

The Twotter is awesome. Approach to TFFJ is right at the numbers of the actual aircraft. Power settings, speed, descent rate etc. are exactly the same as IRL. The sounds are awesome too after the update.

Is it that bad? I'd try it myself to see but I don't have money to burn.

Does anyone get square pink texture on the windows of the PA- 28 turbo? If so what’s the fix thanks.

I bought the twin otter just yesterday !

I bought the otter and to my surprise its gone from my hanger. Called Microsoft since I purchased through the marketplace but they could not help me. Any ideas on how to get a refund or at least give me the module I payed for? I was flying it before it was removed.

As far as the Otter goes, I own it and if they are planning a better version in the future, then I think a steep discount at the very least on the new one (If one comes to light) for those that have the original. I don't fly this one much because It's hard to enjoy it with the botched sounds and some of the dynamics.

The Otter certainly had issues, it did get better over time but still... it was pretty disappointing. Between the Otter and the CRJ I am very very leery of the A330 and ATR from Aerosoft. I'm hopeful, but AS seems to be dropping the ball a bit when it comes to other devs in MSFS.

Have you looked into A400M now that is a plane that should be removed. I have the Twin and I really like, it’s really nice to fly. You should’ve bought after the rework.

Hmmmm. Even worse. I just did a fresh install of msfs and haven't reinstalled the otter. So I paid for it, and don't have it. Ouch

I bought the Twin Otter when it first came out but grew more and more frustrated with the awful sound. To make significant movements to throttle and prop controls without a corresponding change in sound soon had me ditch this plane. Will never buy any products from this developer again. There should be a method of free trial run on products from the Market place with auto removal if product is not purchased.

I think Aerosoft really needs to knock the ball out of the park with the A330 to have any hopes of getting the community to have faith in them again. If not they might as well hang their hats.

I have to reinstall it all the time. MSFS 2020 uninstalls it time on time. It ends up in Profile Not Installed. Very disturbing. This is the only plane it happens to.

I did pay for this aircraft and one day it was no longer on my computer. I couldn't understand how it could disappear form my PC. I'm on Steam with MSFS and XP12, well 11 as well but that's in the corner. Does everything get wiped and re downloaded at start up? I didn't think so but how could it just evaporate? I agree, it wasn't up with the best in my opinion but it was fun to fly and I owned it. So? Any idea? Just an addition, why doesn't the Bredok3d 737 MAX play the disappearance trick? That's definitely one deserving of being kicked off.

There's some shockingly bad planes avalible on the marketplace, that first Kitfox that was released. the Mscenery stuff, really old releases that have never been updated and don't work well anymore. Things far worse than the Twotter to be sure. Ergo, i don't think it was pulled over quality issues. I would sooner belive it's over some behind the scenes personal drama, or maybe some legal issue.

One of the problems with digital ownership is that you really own nothing! It’s a “conceptual” property. If you purchase a digital movie and they decide to remove it, you could end up not being able to see it. Music streaming subscriptions, more of the same. Here, if you purchase a game, and then content for it, all your money could turn into nothing if the producers of the game or the modules decide to pull the plug on the project. Also, since things evolve, it may end up in a state that is no longer compatible with new updates, and you are done for. We need to know that and spend our money wisely or know you may be flushing it down the toilet.

Without any knowledge for my statement, it seems to me reasonably likely that Microsoft may have “bought” the plane and possibly even paying the team to rework the plane for the 2024 release. Thats my .02 anyway….and as my wife would probably say, it isnt worth even that. Lol

I've been playing flight simulator since Flight Simulator 2000. This is my favorite plane in 23 years of playing flight sim. I've seen bad planes. This is not one of them.

The Twin Otter was never a geat aircraft. It was flyable at best.

I will no longer purchase from Aerosoft. Inexcusable to stop supporting an aircraft they charged so much for.
