Its kind of sad that people (like myself) don't really appreciate someone until they are gone. Living in the U.S. I was aware of April Wine and remember liking the couple songs I heard, but I never dug any deeper into their catalog. Now I am doing that and am amazed at how many great songs and excellent albums they produced over their long career. Myles was a true talent that should have received much more acclaim south of the Canadian border.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve been a big fan since the 70s. I’m Canadian and then moved to the States in1980 right when a lot of Canadian bands, we’re getting big in the states like April Wine triumph, Rush loverboy. And just like triumphs, April Wine sort of broke up in the 80s when their style of music was really popular and in both cases, I broke my heart to see them break up That’s sad as Miles Goodwin says in this interview if they had gone the more hair metal route they would’ve broken up by 92 anyways after grunge came along. Of course, if they had gone the more short hair route like a Duran Duran or loverboy, they would’ve broken up also. It’s interesting to hear Miles say he didn’t wanna go the harder route because he is such a rocker. But like he said in his book, he always enjoyed doing all sides, the rockers, but also the ballads. And he wrote and sang some beautiful ballads.

April Wine did a free show at the Victoria Park band shell in London to announce gettin the band back together it was a nice sunny day i was about 40 ft back south of centre and it sounded fantastic, had the bell there too. I like to rock

Miles WAS April Wine, without his voice and song writing they promptly ceased to exist. The other members should have followed his lead without asking questions.

yes it's hard to imagine going against the guy who wrote the hits, it's a holy miracle for any band to ever have even one song chart at all, dont ask questions if you have a guy who achieves it, just be thankful.

I've said this before in other comments about 70s bands coming into the 80s, but they really had to decide who they wanted to compete with, because that was a difficult decade for many of those bands just to be themselves. You either had to go harder like Motley Crue or go techno, like Duran Duran. I'm thinking of Kansas, REO, Rush, Styx, Journey, 38 Special when I say this. And most of them found they couldn't compete either way. You could remain your 70s personna up until about 1983, but after MTV, and it was all about being visual--most of the faceless bands dropped off in popularity

I heard about Jim Clench joining Bachman Turner Overdrive, replacing Randy Bachman himself. I don't know why they never changed their name to Clench-Turner Overdrive! (oh well-that doesn't have the same ring to it!)

April Wine was never a band. It was Myles Goodwyn running the show. The other members were hired guns. He didn't pay them well. I remember in 1985 or 1986 I was at Steve's music store in Montreal and who pulls up in a beat up Honda Civic with a bass drum in the back? None other than Jerry Mercier the drummer for April Wine.

Man I wish Myles would’ve been on board with the other guys and went heavy!! Not leather and studs metal; but more like Harder Faster - rather than where they went with Nature of the Beast and on. Myles awesome singing voice juxtaposed against a heavier sound was great and could’ve been even better!! Myles’ synth-laced self titled album really aged poorly - bad 80’s synth. Yuck!

Agree 110%. I know they weren't going to sound like Judas Priest, but their harder songs are my favorites and from this interview it seems like Myles was more interested in "Just between You and Me" rather than "Roller"
