In this episode, Justin sits down with collector Kevin Roberts. He brings along a very special Bulgari Octo Finissimo and Omega Speedmaster. Do enjoy !
Justin, thank you for this episode. Kevin is so passionate about his timepieces. Both watches are stunning! Kevin is a true watch enthusiast. I’d love to see additional pieces from his collection.
It’s all about the story really, isn’t it? Kevin is a true gentleman. He has this aura of authenticity, fun and humbleness abound him. And watches which Kevin curated from his collection do show that. Classy, timeless, refined yet with an interesting flair to them.
Great conversation and amazing stories - Kevin, you might have just convinced me to pick up that Oris Social Club edition! Keep up the great work with RedBar South East too. 😁
I enjoyed the video. I have left some salty comments here in the past so my apologies Justin! Though I must say that I did make some fair points, even though in hindsight I might have said things differently. One of the things I liked most about this video is that it was not about very expensive watches. It featured 'relatively affordable' watches. I say relatively because many people cannot afford to feed their kids, never mind buy a watch (none of us need a watch). So it is all relative. Kevin's Bulgari cost the best part of £10,000 when many people earn that in a year. So life is relative. But within the world of luxury watches Kevin's watches were 'affordable', which I liked. I am in the fortunate position to be able to afford to spend a very silly amount of money on watches. But a) I never lose money. I hate wasting money (with a passion). So no matter how much I spend on a watch I make sure that I will never lose money. Thirty five years collecting experience obviously helps me greatly. So I buy a lot of vintage watches, which are a certain appreciating assets, if bought well in the first place. b) I buy what I like c) Many of my most loved watches are not my most valuable watches. Don't value watches by the price tag. Enjoying the watches comes first; then you are more likely to learn more and buy well. Don't ride waves, you might be caught at the crest of a wave. For example, if you want to invest in Rolex go vintage; the recent Rolex wave left a lot of people with their financial pants down. To add, get alongside knowledgeable people with decades of experience. We never lose.
Kevin has great taste, The octo has not captured me yet as I see it too squarish, however, Kevin's version got me thinking quite a bit. I also like the Octo Roma line, the previous ones have this Genta like quality to them. Hey Kevin, if you are reading this, check out the previous Piage Polo models on leather, they strike me as a modern day Patek Beta 21. Thanks to both of you for great content.
Excellent video - Kevins horological passion really shines through. Anyone who’s had a long career in construction deserves to celebrate their retirement with a milestone watch.
