Funny thing is that I've seen all these types in my play group. Me personally am the chaotic player that plays old cards that causes chaos amoung all the board stats like my favorite card dimensional breach.

I feel overly called out by that line.

Had a game like that, someone started with leyline of anticipation. Turn 1 i get like 4 rocks out, my turn 2 rolls around I use kinnan to play every nonhuman from the deck and they flashed in blasphemous act. Then they won off a combo on their turn

I am that guy honestly I remember a few weeks back I went to my lgs and these two guys invited me and my brother to play a game of commander we didn't have our decks on us so one of them let us pick from his collection I went with mono green hydras with Gargos Vicious Watcher at the helm and it was a blast playing with a deck I wasn't familiar with and seeing the decks we all used go off

@@squirrel8185 same I literally have 2 commander decks since I just got back into mtg and they are the midnight hunt precons and luckily i have a very nice friend who was willing to learn to play for me

My best commander decks are precons where I keep the base strategy, but switch in stupid cards that synergies really well. I did build a commander deck from scratch once, and it was really slow.

I love buying and barely upgrading precons. I feel that they are the perfect level for me to have fun while actually playing towards a goal.

In this same spirit, there is also the "I'm targeting you because you blew up my board last game" spite player.

Just behind the "What? you dared to attack me with you Llanowar Elves Turn 1????" I will only focus you and let all the others win for the rest of the day!"

At my local FNM one like 35 year old dude literally threatened to punch a 16 year old kid in the face because he attacked him when he told him not to attack him. The 35 year old got insta banned from the store. He was playing Tatyova and had dominated the last 3 games, but wanted us to feel bad for him being mana screwed.

@@thenewlollipopjam8248 Omg yes I had a friend who would be like that and act like it was "totally justified". One game I had an absolute victory due to just good draws. He got super pissed and focused me next game HARD. So out of spite, I just hard focused him while ignoring my other opponents. He was livid, asking why I'm doing that and not dealing with the actual threats like I should play normally while he's trying to kill me off right away. I looked him dead in the eye and said, "Idk why should I when my only threat is across from me?" He tried to make some excuses about "well you know how I am", but I was so sick of it. I just let him kill me off, but without some revenge as the other two had board states so insane he couldn't do shit and died the next turn. We all laughed as the dude stormed off being pissy about what I did.

Worst experience I ever had with this was a guy with an Urza's Head commander deck. "Do you mind if I play this?" What could the harm be, I thought it'd be silly fun and I like Un-cards on occasion (I have a silver-bordered Twilight Sparkle deck I occasionally break out, and I have friends who occasionally play Phoebe or Grusilda). It was optimised Superfriends. And this was during the War of the Spark era of Ask Urza, so almost every ability on it made emblems (of the static abilities of the WAR planeswalkers), it was just constantly spewing the things out. One of the least fun games I've ever played (I got a little mana screwed and so couldn't interact, but it would've been a nightmare to interact with even if I hadn't), and I still resent it. Don't abuse people's goodwill, be honest about the kind of deck you're bringing.

Every player in a play group that understands Rule 0 in its entirety is something we'd all love to have someday. Understanding and communication is the only way we'll get there 👍

Lol, this is me when I play my Xyris wheels. I run those cards but would really rather avoid using them and win solely with 200 danger noodles.

Straight up. Regardless of which game I play I always find those types of folks that play just to complain about it. When you ask them why they still play it, their usual answers are 'I want to expose just how STUPID this game is!'

I'm like that last one. Idc if i won or lost the game, although winning is nice, I love being able to play my wacky cards and get the combos off that I want. If it wins, it wins. If it losses, oh well. I had a good time and am always down for another good game.

That's me, as well. No idea how to really play EDH, but i do love the decks people break out. So I'm also the "doesnt know how their deck works" player since I always borrow a deck.

depends on the deck, usually i just run 27 with tons of cantrips in Zur, but will run like 34 in other more mana intensive decks though.

I used proxys when I wanted to playtest a deck against actual people without spending the money on the cards. The other guys wherd cool with it but I'm glad I did that cause the deck ran like ass.

Got a guy at my LGS who runs proxied OG duals and other high money cards because he refuses to pay that much for them and then brags about his wins. His deck is more plastic than cardboard and I hate his attitude.

@@MaxPwnzer People who use proxies like that annoy me to no end. I don't care about someone playing with a proxy deck for a couple of weeks or months to fine tune a deck before they buy it. I don't even have a problem with people running a couple of proxies in a deck if it's to get around being unable to buy certain cards, like a $10 planeswalker that just doesn't show up for sale. Or even if I know that a particular player really can't afford to buy a deck outright, but they will collect the various cards over the coming months. I don't mind that. But having spent good money on a deck, having made compromises because I can't afford to spend $100 on a card, only to get shit talked by someone who runs a proxy deck that would cost $200k, yeah no fuck that. There's plenty of legit reasons to run proxy cards, and to me running proxies just so you can run power 9 etc. is not a legit reason to run proxies.

People at my LGS use different vape juice bottles when they dont have tokens for a deck. Edit: thinking about it idk why so many people there always have atleast three different bottles of vape juice on them at a time, sometime 6. would think youd just need one for the night if youre gonna do that, but i guess they must plan ahead to use them as tokens or something.

This is why I use advert cards for tokens I dont own and lend tokens I do to those that need them rather be over prepared than under prepared and I learned to use 2x d10s for life counters from a guy I met at my first pre release helpful for large life games

@@ijuhi Yeah. You choose targets of abilities as they're put on the stack, so you can only target stuff that is in the graveyard at the moment the ability is triggered.

@@ijuhi There are other ways to use Animate Dead correctly. 1. Have Worldgorger Dragon in graveyard (it's banned though) 2. Resolve Animate Dead, target WGD 3. WGD enters the battlefield, removes everything including AD 4. Since AD is gone, WGD dies 5. WGD dies, return all including AD to battlefield 6. repeat from 2.

@@jimbones5621 They did, and they casted a Turn 3 Steel Hellkite with it (playing 5-color Ur-Dragon), which then got taken by another player who had a Dack, all while I'm playing Gargos hydra tribal deck (I ended up winning that game because no one was hitting me while I setting up for tons of mana)

I've learned when i'm playing with someone who plays decks I dont like...I just don't play with them anymore. I played at a table with some friends who invited this guy who was all "I play to win, I dont care if you're having fun or not. If you're having fun, fine. If not, good. Glad I could make your day that much worse." kind of douches but after he singled me out and targeted me for the entirety of the game, when i finally pulled off a sweet combo to completely ruin his gameplan, he threw a fit. I was glad to make his day that much worse...and never played with him again lol

The only reason they seem rude isnt the deck- its that they had to leave. Could be as wholesome as the last player

Totally agree. But, there's a little bit of a condescension thing going on. Like if your deck is better, there are often ways to keep the game going by using the cards in interesting/political but suboptimal ways instead of just hold-the-killer-combo-until-you-declare-game-over. And if there's no way around it, well just end the game and play another round! And if you always win, bring a jankier deck :)

@@jerodast I mean if I have Sanguine Bond on the battle field and I draw Exquisite Blood, There is no way I can play that card in any creative way and have the game proceed in any normal fashion, If everyone is tapped I'll win on the next lose of life of life gain. I can end the game, but why if people are play testing or when I can get more information? What if I am enjoying the conversation knowing it's my last game before I split? If I just win then there goes fun interactions I miss out on and good conversation. When I gotta leave, I don't want to wonder how the game ended up. I'll just finish it.

If you're still into magic, the Chisiro, Shattered Blade preconstructed deck is pretty fun, but technically illegal since it has two Mossfire Valleys. I personally swapped the second copy out for a basic mountain since i had a cool one on hand, but you could (and probably should) swap it out for any other red-green dual land. It's only one card though, so you could swap it out for any versatile card like Darksteel Plate, Moss/Fire Diamond, Vandalblast, etc. tl;dr Chishiro precon is fun, swap out one of the two Mossfire Valleys for a different card to make the deck legal

@@brandonbeagle836 Haha I got the Chisiro Deck lately. I was confused seeing the Mossfire Valley twice and like you said swapped it for a basic. Pretty fun getting to attack with those modified creatures.

LOL I played with a group like that. They all played some blue, every deck was basically the same... enter me with my hyper aggressive cheap Xenagos deck. They quickly realized they couldn't waste their counters on my hoard without stopping each others combos and they didn't have creatures they could spare to block my huge creatures due to combos/ tutors. They also loved using pay life effects like Mana Crypts, Ancient Tombs, Sylvan Library, etc... making it more and more dangerous to die in a single giant hit. Funny that a 75% (4 player games) combocentric players game weakness was all out mortal combat Gruul Style! I learned so much from them but they also were all local MTG champs; LOL, to this day I don't get why they let me play with them. I literally walked into the deep end, like I'd bring other friends to play with that group and they would kindly inform me to not bring them next time :P

Ugh, that kind of combo player is abhorrent. I have Vito (replaced Sanguine Bond) & Exquisite Blood in my Edgar Markov toolbox build and If I EVER tutor for either of them, never sit down at a table with me again. I keep the combo in because it’s classic, on theme, and ends the game, but it’s not the primary wincon. In fact, winning with it feels like a loss.

Before starting to play a game of commander, always discuss with the group. - Discuss power levels everyone is going to play. - Discuss any house rules like bans or proxy usage or discuss anything in terms of changes before the game actually starts. The point of commander is that it’s fun for everyone in the group. If you aren’t having fun, something is wrong and needs to be discussed. Rule 0 is to have fun, remember it’s a social game, and to come into it with that same mindset.

Could you tell me why it doesn't work? What he did made sense to me :o Rule 112.7a Once activated or triggered, an ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Destruction or removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability.

@@bluesight_ the reason it doesn't work is because when sun titan's triggered ability goes on the stack animate dead is still on the battlefield. he can't target something that is put into the graveyard after the ability triggers even if it is before it resolves.

my brother's like this, i proc'd blood artist by sacrificing a few tokens and dished out damage equally, probably about 5 to each of the enemies over the course of the game and i proceeded to get hit with a 20/20 flyer that got turned into a vehicle by another one of my opponents i ended up surviving at 3 health and ramming all my creatures into him dealing exactly lethal

I've quite literally had to tell people not to scoop as I was going off, usually just telling them "Wait for the end of it" before dropping, say, prime speaker zegana and decking myself without labman on field. And then the entire table just looks at me like I'm crazy. Like, what? I was having a good time, I didn't want the game to end turn 5.

@@ShatterPalm Just a normal GB deck with expensive creatures, stuff like animate dead and some mass reanimation. Hermit druid makes sure I can play a land each turn and my graveyard fills up. One of the best self-mill-cards in the game. No need to do boring shit like thassa's oracle with him.

oh or even better then the scoffs at your build of a commander they have built at one point is the player that scoffs of your build of a deck they havent ever built and throw the "there are better commanders for that".

@@a_lethe_ion I have warned people about him. He was almost kicked out because I warned newer players about him, and then he came to me, asking why I'm telling people he's not fun to play with. "Because being a big fish in a small pond is only fun for you, no one else. You're preying on new players so you can win on turn 3-5 with a $1,000 deck against people that just started and are playing slightly modified Precons or are playing a casual EDH game with unoptimized decks with no infinite combos." This is a guy who's least powerful EDH deck is completely optimized Ghalta, Primal Hunger, which can draw his deck at latest by turn 7. The guy who thinks his Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder Smokestack deck is completely okay to play in a casual setting. I imagine he'll get kicked out sooner or later, but we'll see if he can tone it down or stick to the CEDH table.

I don't know what the decks are, I legit played a single game of magic 16 years ago, liked it but never took it up bc I lived in a smaller village and I did play the pokemon game.. sold 99% of my cards when I was homeless for half a year. I just watch the video bc idk, it's interesting. I don't have the money to actually play. like I live off 200 euro per month, so. yeah no dosh. but the videos are interesting and I did p&p rpgs when I lived home every half year when there was a convention in the next big city (I slept at the con lol) the vids make me nostalgic

Didnt know what EDH was until I moved away and actually had an LGS to play at. Unfortunately due to COVID, the store is currently closed. Hope it gets on its feet again when everything reopens.

absolutely. I always turn into the "how dare you attack me" when I am playing with my little sister, because she literally ALWAYS GOES FOR ME. Even when it puts her in a worse position. Just because we're siblings lol
