Ok Bernie, Hamas began this current iteration of the ongoing war from the past 75+ years, but thats also ignoring the constant humiliation, degradation, and killing of Palestinians over the course of "mowing the lawn" for the Israeli's. Yes, the US is very complicit in this crisis. The US must give Israel an ultimatum regarding funding and their actions. The Palestinians deserve their dignity and self-determination, otherwise its endless war and genocide.

The war may have started for you on Oct7th but for the Palestinian people it has been going on for over 70yrs, they have been murdered, tortured, kicked out of their homes, starved, denied access to water and employment and medical care and have suffered State sponsored persecution, all of the basic necessities of life that you take for granted, and it has been ignored and swept under the rug the entire time, that is their point, and as awful as Oct 7th was what would you have done in their shoes. It is easy to say that you would have done anything and everything short of that, but the point you're missing is that they have done everything short of that for decades only to be shown apathy and contempt by the rest of the world, particularly by the western world, the self proclaimed champions of the world, of freedom and democracy and goodness and fairness, that is why they did what they did. The history is not complex, it’s clear, this has been going on for years to the Palestinian people and the world has just ignored it.

The two state solution no longer makes any sense. Mentioning it is simply political banter. We all see it for what it is, an apartheid state. Equal rights for all Palestinians everywhere within the borders of what constitutes the land formerly referred to as Palestine prior to 1948. Palestinians deserve reparations and the right to return. Palestinians should be able to return just as much as Jewish people have the right to become Israeli citizens now. Nobody has the right to defend colonial apartheid. No more forced evictions, no more settlements, no more kangaroo courts for Palestinians. Freedom and justice for all aren’t complicated concepts…why aren’t you actually advocating for it Bernie?

As a UK citizen, i have a lot of respect for Bernie Sanders and his opnions on subjects that mainstream politicians tend to toe the line with the establishment. If the US had held the two parties to the Oslo agreement then maybe there could have been peace and hamas would not have taken over control of Gaza

My family came to the United States in the 1930s and 1940s. My mother's Father it's from Scotland her mother from Syria my dad his father from Yemen his mother from Somalia. It makes me extremely sad to think of what has been going on over there in the US thinks it's okay to continue to send ungodly amounts of money over there to israel! I hope that you and your fellow Congress people senators and representatives in the house can come up with a way to get Biden and them to stop sending money. Not lessening any of the attrocities Hamas did to civilians on Oct. 7th, but 60% of the 1200 lives lost were active IDF members, certainly not innocent. Some of the rest fell by IDF indiscriminate tank and air fire taking out hostages along their captors. Anyway, peaceful resistance was rendered ineffective by the extreme right Israeli actions as seen in the west bank and even in Gaza in the march of return 2018-19. Oct 7th was bound to happen, and with the current crimes committed, the ideology of Hamas will only emerge stronger than ever.

All that would mean a lot more if he called for a ceasefire.

I commend Mr Sanders for speaking up against the US/Israeli war machine. My only gripe is that the Palestinian people don't just "deserve" a land of their own... They "owned" the land, as sad as it is, they just want a part of it back now; they're 'owed' that much at the very least.

Working with Palestinians other than Hamas would be a good idea, but they'd have to be freed from Israeli jail first. Especially Marwan Barghouti who hasn't seen freedom since his kangaroo court trial. In fact I don't see any solution without him and suspect he is in prison precisely because Israel doesn't want one.
