On Saturday 9th January 1999 three enthusiast excursion trains passed through the area to the west of London. The first, 'The West London Explorer' was hauled by 'U' class 2-6-0 no 31626, and ran from Arlesford to Kensington Olympia, returning via Reigate and Guildford.
The second was headed by Merchant Navy class 4-6-2 no 35005 'Canadian Pacific', passing through West London on its way from Crewe to London Victoria. Our final train was routed from London Victoria to Guildford then along the southern side of the North Downs to Redhill and back to Victoria. The unusual motive power at the head of this train was BR Deltic no D9000 'Royal Scots Grey' whose normal stomping ground was the East Coast main line from Kings Cross to York and Edinburgh.
