I have one of these but for an Icom. Had exactly same problem with VARA rig keyed up permanently. Works great with WJST-x though.

I have since sold both the 817 and the U5 Link, so I have no way of troubleshooting it now.

cheers mate, its nice to have an update and its good to hear that you still think its a good purchase... i am still awaiting delivery of my one, its out there somewhere on a slow boat from china lol 73... M3LNE

It is a very good purchase, although it's a pretty simple device. I have some issues with the audio being too hot out from the radio, but I guess that's an issue of actually reading the manual for the 817.

@@LB0FI i know its a pain being all menu driven but there are some awesome adjustments you can make on 817 when you go through the user manual, i think it has so many bells and whistles i find something new each day on it, its a lovely little radio and thats for sure

I tried Vara for both 2m and HF, neither worked well. JS8call does work, but I've managed 3 QSOs on JS8call since December 2020, so I wasn't surprised that I didn't get any now either. But that's neither the radio nor the U5 Link's fault.

Does NOT work from the front CAT of a FT-897. Probably needs the 13v available at the rear for some reason.

Does 2m FT8 give you bonus points in FT8Off? And unfortunately I think you're a little bit outside 2m FT8 range there. If only the earth was flat...

@@LB0FI yes, any contact a US tech could make gets you bonus points, so 10m and up.

Jeg antar at dette modemet er en USB>CAT -kontroller samt har galvanisk isolerte audio inn- og utganger? Da gjør den vel samme jobben som f.eks. Signalink, bortsett fra at sistnevnte har innebygget lydkort? Takker for en god introduksjon til modemet, og antar at du er fornøyd så langt? Best 73's de Einar.

Helt riktig. Veldig foreknlet så er det en overgang fra minijack til din-plugg og en USB-seriell med en FTDI-brikke. Den gjør akkurat den samme jobben som en Signalink bortsett fra lydkortet, men prisen er jo mye bedre. Jeg er veldig fornøyd med den, men jeg hadde nok kanskje vurdert en DigiRig i stedet om jeg skulle handla i dag.

As those radios are 2m/70cm FM rigs this is probably not a good match, if it would even work. You would me much better off getting a regular programming cable for those radios.
