You are a 121% right. I am nowhere near your level, but l once took BJJ from a Hickson Gracie Blackbelt who was a 2 time world champion, and his MMA training sessions were always taught by the local high school wrestling champions. He would always pick their brain's. I thought he was just being humble, but you have given me clarity on that experience at that time of my life.
What are your thoughts on the portion of the bjj community that agree with you, who are actively trying to take it in a better direction. Who are focusing more on wrestling and discouraging guard pulling? Is there any redemption in bjj or for it to live would it have to evolve into something different that’s closer to catch wrestling?
At about 18:15 you hit the nail on the head by saying " beat a man bloody in his guard". My interests in combat are simply to defend myself and my family. Your channel is a gold mine of wisdom.
If guys want to get noticed, then they need to have thousands of followers on social media. BJJ has it's own fight league and Gordon ryan probably made more than most pro fighters(That includes MMA &boxing promotions).I think that's why BJJ fanatics get upset because their art has made so much money within the last 2 decades.
As a current mma Practitioner, I strongly agree! If I were to personally pick the main three for mma guys to work on it would be Boxing, Judo (or even Greco Roman Wrestling) and then jiu jitsu. I do think in rare cases jiu jitsu can be made exciting in the ufc but… it has to be used in such a way that doesn’t get boring to fans. For example a guy like Charles Oliveira will rock guys on the feet, beat them down until they are almost knocked out and then choke them out just because he can.
Salam Aleykum. Thanks for Mentioning Palestine! About the Jiu-jitsu subject, I'm just a blue belt myself and I agree with you that Wrestling is the Base of MMA. Where can I find your new Channel about NLP?
I concur with your thoughts based on the sport of BJJ. You may have touched on this in past videos. Rickson has very disparaging thoughts. Particularly about this since it’s watered down the effectiveness of the art. Theres a gentleman named Smittywit. He calls it submission wrestling instead of BJJ. But I hear you on the butt scoot tip.
Excellent video. I learned so much watching it. What I am curious about is how knives and sticks change the grappling strategy. Dog Brothers Martial Arts seems to address those things well. Best wishes.
I remember one particular video where some guy on Joe Rogan podcast claimed Michael Bisping's bjj was so much beyond his and that bjj wasn't even his main expertise (he's mostly clearly a striker) but Joe Rogan, being the bjj dickrider that he's known for, instantly denied this that he's a great jiu jitsu guy and a black belt ... even the Joe Rogan fanbase thought he was forcing it ... that alone says more than enough, bjj will always have thius misplaced belief that they are unique or special or superior somehow, it's a Brazilian machismo thing, you can't get rid of it
Interesting video, sir. Do you plan on commenting on the current UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira getting awarded his BJJ black belt after knocking out Jamahal Hill?
Static strength hold should be taught in strategic development in wrestling/grappling. I believe this is what separates the best and just decent wrestlers/grapplers. Bjj purists usually lack static strength, and when faced against opposition that apply it they tend to submit but of course not all just most
the only people in modern UFC I know use bjj to the highest success rate is people like Charles Oliveira ... who's also a pretty damn good striker by the way ... and beyond him, I would really need to start some serious digging because for the life of me impossible to come up with anybody else from off the top of my head
And still in the adcc jiu jitsu comes out on time. In my opinion ufc fighter aren’t great at jiu jitsu. If Gordon or Craig or any of the top BJJ guys could strike they’ll definitely dominate all the wrestlers
