Carlo thanks for all of the great videos you post! I've been dj'ing for a long time and working on getting back into it along with my live sound engineering. Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new. I bought the Rane One in 2022 partly based on your review of it and my love of Rane products going all the way back to the MP44 and owning a TTM54 for years before moving to Serato and a 61 which I had a big problem with the fader reverse buttons on the deck. I still have my 1200's but they don't go out with me anymore and now I want the Performer!
The Performer is essentially the product of a union between the One and Four! Everything good about each is present in it. I do love your history with Rane too; those are classic bits of technology there!
In my opinion, this is one of the BEST videos that I have seen to date covering the Rane Performer launch. Your infographics explaining the features were on point as well as the B-roll footage and comparison sections! You get 10 stars from me because I'm a videographer/editor and DJ. You knock this one out of the park, Dude! #salute
Good morning. When applying the sticker on the platter, is the goal to line the sticker up with one of the 'notches' and, if so, which one? The notch at 12 o'clock or the notch at 2 o'clock? Or does it simply not matter when I place it? There are little white markers at the 12 o’clock position and 2 o’clock position. Was just wondering if there were landmarks I could use when lining up the platter marker. Thanks. Thanks in advance!!
Thanks so the review, i got the rane four last year after watching your amazing review. today before watching this video i was worried . but actually i don't need or use the motorized platters , so its more about the new fxs .. i am still happy with my Rane four and it is still the beast for me. i hope rane will not disconnect it to push this one.
I dont think they will haha. The Performer's target market is somewhat more niche than the Four's if you ask me, so both should satisfy the folks looking for them! The Four is absolutely still a beast!
Am just here chilling...waiting for Native to drop a controller like this and a completely overhauled Traktor😎...catch me chilling here still at 2028 and onward!😂
I'll be here chilling with you too! Why is the company that normalized "prepped stems" still not putting forward "live stems?!?!" It boggles the mind. If native dropped an S4 MK4 with Live stems, I would be first in line to buy.
@@eespecialeventsdj Native Instruments prioritizes quality sound over everything else. The fact is live stems are cool but algorithms used currently on certain sounds are not up to par.
Great Content as always! I totally agree with you. I personally prefer a more simplified workflow and only 2 channels. The more buttons and knobs and features are fantastic, but for me just leads to confusion and worry about hitting the wrong button when mixing. Rev7 works best for an ol school cat like me.
@@djcarlo oh god ok im still rookie level with ddj 200 but no laptop only djay app on android tablet ..so i guess ill need to upgrade im tired of searching acapellas for certains songs, when you can just isolate it with a button 🤗
Excellent demo of the RANE PERFORMER! DJ Carlo has done it again 🔥💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 I love my RANE ONE and prefer the 2 Channel Layout. I also have the DDJ-REV5 with the RANE ONE being my flagship unit. I gotta wait until the RANE ONE MK2 comes out with Built in Effects
I want all of this in a standalone with 12" platters, the ability to put efx on stems and all the bells and whistles of the Prime 4+. Yes, all of them lol... Until then I'm sticking with the Prime 4+. I know no one reading this cares. But a man can dream.
Denon used to make standalone CD/USB players with 9 inch direct drive turntables. Denon DJ SC-3900, they work with CD, USB, HDD and MIDI, aswell as analyzing with Engine DJ. Denon still makes direct drive variants of their own flagship media players, SC-5000M / SC-6000M
My mate just bought an older Rane One. Says its great, im going to hopefully have a play this weekend. Was thinking of getting a Pioneer xdjxz myself, i kind of want something similar to a club set up as im playing out more and can't justify spending a small fortune on cdjs yet, i need a new car before them 😂
@djcarlo that's OK i honestly don't use fx too much when playing out, maybe a LPF/HPF or echo out transition here and there but I still manually do things like doubles and phasing, etc. I guess with practice and more experience i probably will use them more. 👍
That's a constant in any tech industry I'd say! Cars, phones, gaming consoles, etc. Take this from a guy who was rocking a Nintendo DS all the way till the Switch came out haha
@@DEEJAYKLONE honestly it's kind of crazy It's taken all these years to find a true replacement. I really wanted the Rane when it came out but two channels was a no-go now this is the real deal
All im waiting for is Live Stem from Native Instruments, then I will be good to go with my Traktor S4MK3. However, I dont mind buying this controller as my second controller.
Indeed! Thats why I did the recommendations near the start of the video. Every controller has its market, and everyone has their perfect match of a controller 🤩
Thank you DJ Carlo for an excellent review I’m going to save a buy one you sold me as you are my favorite DJ n Expert in Music and DJ products thank you so much 💯😎🎤🎼🎧📡📻👀
Hi, as the Rev 7 has such a week pick up when you let go of the platter, it's disappointing to hear that the Rane Performer feels the same... And.. yes I've tried using 2 pioneer slip rings & after market slips but in reality the R7 feels nothing like a SL12! The only way the R7 can be used is to hold the 7" platter with the lightest touch when you let go! Unless you enjoy watching the platter slowly trying to play catch up & equalise the torque from the motor below. It's catch 22... You can achieve a quick pick when only using a single slip ring but you lose the ability to perform a 4-beat spin back! Long spin backs & quick pick ups are very important to me in my performances. I'm so tired of being asked to play out on these Mickey Mouse toys on
Nothing can really replace the feel of genuine turntables, but I wouldn't call these ones toys. In fact, I can still do some pretty fun routines with these guys, without much adjustment! Maybe the feel of motorized jogwheels just isn't for you 😊
Looks good but I had a bad experience with the Rane-One as I didn’t like the sound quality. I believe that Pioneer always had a better sound card, at least in my opinion. it’s all about the sound for me. I ended up selling the Rane-One and got the Rev-7 and I must say the 7 is a great controller I luv the sound quality, touch, and feel of it, makes you wanna play music all night long 😎
Sorry to hear that! Actually, what did you find inferior about Rane's sound quality compared to Pioneer's? I barely hear the difference, so I need more perspective 😅
If we Rane 4 owners could change our platters to motorized that would be a great idea because we have spent a lot of money already Maybe you could suggest that to Inmusic a motorized kit I’m sure they would like to sell the parts needed for a easy upgrade I would buy it Now
I'm not powerful enough to do that, haha, but I think the reason why that won't work too is because they moved things around to make that work. Externally, the layouts are similar, but internally, there are other changes that won't be easy to just re-do
Not really actually! They're large, yes, but I don't find myself touching that middle part at all while spinning. It was the same case with the REV7. In fact, I found them to be extremely helpful while mixing!
Well, it took about a year from the Rane Four to the Performer, so realistically, maybe next year! Fingers crossed that they bring the PerFOURmer technology to a standalone that takes in USBs next!
How is the jogs for beat jiggling ans spinbacks? Learning some more turntablism and scratching is why I want this unit over the Four... do the slip rings let you tune the feel for good backspins?
Well am at the point where my eyes are on the pioneer flx10 and the Rane performer two of them are great dj controller but some how pioneer has better audio quality control from there sound card and the Mavel faders are butter vs Rane faders hope the my changed
Hey DJ Carlo! I’m a beginner and would like to specialize in R&B music like Soulection DJs, can you make a beginner video for R&B transitions please! Thanks!
Youll just need to follow my basic transition guides! I know they all use house/EDM songs, but the same transition techniques apply. Check out my video on mixing songs with no intro too
That's the last wall Rane has yet to breach, but realistically, a processor that can really do the dirty work for stems (main selling point of the performer) would drive up the costs even further
One important question, at least for me, regarding the feel of the motorized platters...on the rev7 I found it quite hard to sync manually by touching the sides of the platters, slow down is no problem, but push forward/faster was difficult. I'm an old vinyl junkie and on the 1210s we had the spindle in the middle or we could slightly push the top of the vinyl or give it a smooth push at the metal on the side of the wheel if you know what I mean. Everyone had his own technique for it. I found it hard to get the feeling right in this regards on the rev 7, it was not as precise and forgiving as I was hoping for. I know we have the plus and minus buttons, they do their work and they do it good...but...it feels wrong to me to push a button to match the speed of my tracks. Is there a difference between the Performer and the Rev7? Is it "easier" and more precise on the Performer? 😬
Truth be told, there's barely any difference from how I felt it. I actually mentioned that at the start of the review. Nothing can really replace the feeling of a couple of 1200s, especially with the middle spindle to "catch up" with the beats if you ask me
@@djcarlo I love new gadgets, and dj is not even my job, used to be a long time ago back in the 90s, but my son is into it he’s 6 and absolutely loves it and got me back into it.
Mi hermano Carlo! Great review! Wow now this is going to be interesting for me, I’m gonna have to either sell My FLX10 or something to invest in the Rane Performer, I have a lot to think about before investing. Thank you like always Carlo!
I’m so excited to see that this is now in the DJ review phase. I bought the Rane Four the day it was released and ended up returning it. I really just didn’t like the platters. Since there will be no NS7 IV, this is the next best thing.
@@djcarlo yes, I definitely have a preference for motorized platters, and since I like spinning House and love to scratch 4 decks with moving platters. I did like how up to 6 effects could be used simultaneously on the NS7 III. This doesn’t give me that, but I’m still excited about this coming out and possibly being released before the end of the year.
Technology will only keep progressing, allowing us to do new things as time goes on. Even the gear you're using started out being "magic" in its own time 🥳
Hitting [hot cues] + [scratchbank] toggles your upper pads into dedicated stem kill switches on Rev 7. I know it's nitpicking but just wanted your viewers to know that you do not have to map them anymore.
That's okay. lol what i meant was a beat matcher? i swear i saw one on dj controllers. i guess what it does on the controller is well, make the songs i have on where the music is stored and match the beat for you. Does that exist on any dj controller? i wrote you a novel. lol sorry but i just wanted to make sure i saw what i saw. 😁
@@djcarlo that's right, a BPM where one song blends into another? It automatically beat match option or am I mistaken? I'm still a beginner. Going to save up for a Rane performer or pioneer something. I'm still looking.
Fantastic video! Are the Performer's jog wheels plastic or metal? They look plastic yet you state at 2:39 the Performer is entirely metal. I tried the Rev7 earlier this year and returned it immediately due to the jog wheels being plastic and feeling extremely cheap and flimsy. Thanks again for the awesome video!
The top is the only plastic part if I recall right. The rest is either high-grade plastic, or metal. I'll need to check again, but they felt very sturdy
i have a flx4 and im looking to upgrade. should i go for the flx10, or the rane four? or should i spend all my money and go with the new rane performer?
First of all I just wanted to let you know why i’m *NOT* going to watch any of your content anymore. 1. I think your channel is great 2. Your content are on point and really interesting and up to date. 3. I used to watch a bunch of your videos for inspiration and ideas . So why am i leaving? *RU-vidS AGGRESSIVE AD CAMPAIGNS* I do not condone to sit and watch 10-15, 1-2 minute breaks with content that does not interest me one bit. Hair or skin products, electric vehicles commercials, fast, snacks and junk food commercials, travel guides or offers Not a single of these RU-vid ads has a reference to your channel or the content that you produce. Sorry, my time is more valuable than all these RU-vid ads. So I’ll have to look for information and inspiration elsewhere! Cheers and thanks for many hours of fun and interesting segments!
OK. I have an Amazon account and I bought my rane 4 from them about 2 weeks ago that I'm sending back tomorrow for the performer but when I search on Amazon for the performer it doesn't show up but you have a link that shows up stating delivery July 10??? How is that possible that doesn't show up in a regular search???
I honestly cannot answer that as I really don't know. It might be a regional thing! My friends in The Philippines can access the link, but it doesn't ship over there, so it might not pop up in a search as well :o
I’ve watched a few reviews of the performer and I’d like to say that your production quality is next level. You are setting yourself apart as the best produced DJ channel.
@@djcarlo it’s sad how these companies come up with great technology that is never used in clubs cuz old heads wanna stick to CDJs! What a waste!!🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
How can I know if motorized platers are the best or the worst for me? Can you compare the four and performer platers? I never played with turntables so I don't if I going to have a better experience or if I should buy a rane four
Do you like how your non moving players are? Then stick with it! Moving platters (in my opinion) are for those DJs who prefer scratching and juggling! But if you don’t scratch, don’t consider it!
The controller is awesome, but the layout is what turns me off still ( I have no use for 4 channel any way), I'll stick with my Rev7 (You can use the scratch banks for Stem Separations by Mapping them, which I did and using clear protection around faders to protect the paint) and wait for Pioneer counter-act with their new surprise, we should already know its coming, it just a matter of time when.
Ohhhh, what don't you like about the layout? And fair point on the mapping, but I still feel like Pioneer should actually solve that paint problem instead of us consumers needing to buy more stuff haha
@@djcarlo The layout of the pad buttons not being in the middle but I understand what they did in regards or it would kinda been a clone of the REV 7 but four channel, So I understand them to keep as "Rane Distinguished Quality" from others, besides that its still a nice controller. The Rev 7 I'm cool with for now.
Be warned We that bought the Rane 4 had a bunch of issues, Nobody wants to talk about that because all these reviews are salesman ,I own a 4 these are facts Period I did get mine fixed it was a ground issue I fix it myself and no I would not rush out and buy this, I’m done
If you open it up you will understand how they ground the boards it’s a cheap way of doing it. It has to do with the static ground I’m sure but the engineers could have done it better In my opinion that’s what has been causing a lot of issues.
Ok, I get it now... For some reason, even though your videos are well put together and informative... and you're a great presenter... ALL your videos start with a disappointed look of despair with the product you're reviewing. If you're going end you're videos with a positive overview, it doesn't make sense to start your video with your head in your hands! You don't need to succumb to these lowball click bate!
I see your point on the wave forms, but honestly, Rane took pretty much their own technology on this one. You can't customize the slip mats on the REV7
Lol these ns7 comments are getting out of control. The performer is literally the ns7IV you're asking for. Numark is InMusics budget / consumer division. Rane and Denon are their prosumer brands.
