You’ve done an amazing job there, has to be said. Even with how the space is clad. The residential issue turned out to be a godsend. Years ago, I had a mini space invaders game I got from somewhere as a present. It was kind of like a micro cabinet thingy and digital display for that purpose. Might even be a Grandstand, cannot remember. Don’t know what happened to it. It did batteries or dc I think. Still there is Classic Invaders on the CPC :)

I really liked your video/commentary about Neils Cave/Retro Museum. And I definitely agree, the the cave is a piece of love and passion. I'm looking forward to visit the cave this year as I'm forced from business to visit Gloucester. Going south to see the cave would be a welcome distraction....

8:16 glad you liked my collection of handheld games I lent to Neil, most came from car boot sales in the late 90s & 2000's, I had fun collecting all the games I could never afford as a kid in the 80s. Before handing them over last October I carefully took each one apart and cleaned them down to their individual buttons & switches to make them look like new after a decade of gathering dust on my shelves.
@DinoBytes
@DinoBytes Год назад
They were definitely a highlight for me, and have inspired me to go on the hunt for a Puck Monster! I only have an Astro Wars and Galaxy Invader right now! Loved all those handheld games...

Thank you Gordon for making this video. I had no idea you were filming this mini-documentary, complete with an interview with Neil when we were there. Now I have a video to show to people where I went, filmed on the very same day that I was there. 😄 One thing to note is that while I've enjoyed looking at all the systems you've pointed out, I'm more nostalgic for the 16 bit era in the 90s, and there was plenty to enjoy from that era for me as well - from the usual suspects to exotic devices such as the X68000, CD-i, 3DO, LaserVision, Amstrad Mega PC and so much more. I've spent the whole day in the Cave, and am still longing to go back - too bad it's quite the trip for me, as I live in Munich and travelled there with a friend for the Cave. It was a brilliant weekend, since we've also really enjoyed Bath and the Cotswolds.
@DinoBytes
@DinoBytes Год назад
I remember seeing you there! I hope you didn't mind me filming, but hopefully it is a nice memory! I agree, there were some great 16 bit systems there which are quite unusual - I did have some footage of all of them, but already the video was getting too complicated so I decided to get it out sooner rather than later! I think one of the best things about The Cave is the sheer wealth of both popular and unusual systems across a long period, rather than concentrating on the easy stuff. Hope you get to visit again soon, I feel bad now saying it's a bit far from Brighton! PS- another comment here said there was something similar in Berlin, do you know it?

I grew up on the Apple //e and //c (and to a lesser extent the IIgs) - my experience is a bit different than a lot of retro types. But I started on a lot of retro stuff when it was still new - and just stuck with it while it became old.
@DinoBytes
@DinoBytes Год назад
Me too, I owned about half of what was shown in this video when it was new and cutting edge! Speaking of the IIc, I'm actually trying to make a case for a retro project that looks similar to it.
