We used to get a drink in the Love Apple from the Alhambra pit orchestra on Friday & Saturday nights when all the other bars were rammed (we only had 15 minute intervals!)
Yes, we had quite a bit of that. We managed to get enough of the orchestra sufficiently hammered after one of our lock ins that the following show was cancelled. Naughty, but quite a triumph. The musos from one show had got a sort of "band on the side" together. I remember their gig being really entertaining.
The night club next door you were wondering about was called caverns in the 1980s,it was done out inside in the form of caves hence the name.and the love apple used to be a Greek cafe called the el greako,we used to go in there after the pub's and club's shut and get meals like chops chips and peas and mixed grill at 2am! Bet there's no cafes about like that anymore!
I have also played at the Love Apple in the early 2000’s. We were absolutely terrible that night and never played there again! This vid brings back memories. It's sad to see Bradford as it is now. There used to be loads of venues, the music scene was bouncing and there was a lot of choice in the stuff you could be enjoying from place to place. I mainly went to the indie, rock and metal venues like Rio's, The Gas Works, The Manville Arms and Delius amongst others. I'm not old enough to remember the Frog and Toad but a lot of my older friends have fond memories of that place too.
Ahh haha, at least it wasn't just me who played badly 😅 you're totally right it used to be so active and had a really great alternative scene. I don't know the frog either but I remember a few of those others. Some have survived but compared to what it was it's a ghost town at least from what I've seen. 1 in 12 is still going though among a few others.
@@northernintrovertWell I'm an idiot. The 1 in 12 was the last place I played in Bradford. It was only a few months ago and I forgot to put it on my list! A great little venue, had some really good times there over the years. I feel sorry for the younger bands and DJ's these days. People don't go out to see live music in anywhere near the numbers they used to and the venue's are dropping like flies.
Next to Castaways, in the 70s and 80s was Caverns Nightclubub and next to that was the La Ronde club… with the El Greco Cafe next ,very popular for good, cheep grub and open 24hrs a day.. then around the corner was the Love Apple Club.. and opposite that, where the car park is, there was a bar called The Vaults Bar, part of the Alexandra Hotel. Where, on the top floor, was the ‘No.5 Horus Temple Branch’ where Aleister Crowley held his ‘Order of the Golden Dawn’ occult gatherings..
Bradford back in glory days 80s 90s caverns was top night out dukes n silks Scott page rave days flyers handed out all nighters physiques VIPs heaven mastros Bibby's and palm cove long gone shitole now like most city centres in UK sad times great memories growing up in Bradford remember greek cafe getting chops peas chips at 4am in the morning
Thanks to the council, Very against the motorist, Not enough free parking ,Started destroying the city Centre in the 60s. Customers with disposable income Went elsewhere.
Lack of money would be my answer, since the textile industries closed down the city's not been able to properly support and provide for it's people. It's not the only issue there but I thinks it's probably had the most significant knock on effects.

@@northernintrovert You are clearly diverting from the real issue and by the looks of it, you will just ask stupid questions. Why could there be a lack of money in Uk. I am not even British but I am not playing pretend like you.
Then tell us the real issuse? If we're talking about why Bradford is "shit" - which I assume is referring to the poverty, drug problems, homelessness, derelict run down buildings and lack of job opportunities and social care - these issues have been prevalent and growing ever since the city lost it's money following the collapse of the textile industry. There is money in the UK but not at Bradford council. If you think I'm ignorant please educate me because I'm open minded and not claiming to be an expert on any of this.

@@northernintrovert You know the real issues, you just do not care. I refuse and object to anyone being this blind. That is not possible.
If there's something you want to say you can say it otherwise this is all a waste of time for both of us. I've shared my views, happy to leave it at that if it's not enough for you.
the shittiest dirtiest most stinking night club in Great Britain ever was. . . Mingles, Whitley Bay, the area well known for dives and shitholes but Mingles stood head and shoulders above all the others in its heyday of the 1970's-1980s, originally Disco inspired it became a heavy metal venue as no one wearing clean clothes would go into it, the seats were soaked in beer, the carpets stuck to the soles of your shoes, the curtains had turned green from beige with cigarette smoke, the ceiling rained down brown rain as sweat condensed on the ceiling tiles, the bogs were copied for the scene in trainspotting "The worst toilet in Scotland" the sound and lighting "system" was on par with the system at your middle school Christmas disco, often beach fishermen would come in with their fishing tackle and fish they had caught that night, wearing wellys and oilskins that were probably more use in Mingles than outside of the place, All the junkies who lived in bedsit land congragated there with bikers, metal freaks, and down and outs looking for somewhere to keep warm for a few hours, The beer tasted like piss, even the condom machine gave you out-of-date blobs, and I dated the barmaid ! ! ! does anyone have any fond memories of Mingles ? PS As for this video I didn't watch it like most people I'm only here for the comments !
