I recently switched from Unholy to Blood in order to fill the vacant tank spot in our guild. This is the first video of yours I have watched. I have to say, it's very informative and I really appreciate the time you took to explain. I have been playing the Blood now for a couple of months, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I think with your guide, I will be much better. Thank you.
Thank you so much for starting with the core gameplay! The amount of time people start with the talent tree, but yet the viewer has no context to understand it from!
Mate I have been playing Blood DK as my main since it became available way way back. If you play it right you can not die. OG pug tank since you can fix alot of the mistakes by other people. This was one of the best guides I have ever seen.
I Main Blood DK and played some 20 keys and still i watch all kinds of guides to see other views of this spec and i still got some Tipps thanks to this Video. i would say Blood DK is very fun to play because with this insane self sustaining u can ez kill some boss with 3-4m hp even when the entire team wipes
Dude, phenomenal review! Switched to blood for dragon flight and love it. Everything in here is spot on! Biggest thing I would add- anti magic shield can cheese so many mechanics it’s amazing.
I rarely comment on videos but I LOVE the way you explain HOW to play classes, rather than reading out a prio list from Wowhead. Amazing stuff. Now to watch your masterclass guides for 10.2!! Thank you thank you.
This guide couldn't have come at a better time. I've really been struggling on my blood DK ever since patch 10.1 hit, feels like we are made of wet paper now.
I just got ksm in 10.1 as a healer so now I’m looking to tank for the rest of the season my first pick was blood because of the sustainability…. Currently lvling him up… was nervous learning a new spec…. Your guide really helped and I hope I can run keys in 10.1.5
As a DK main, going to start tanking higher keys for the homies in the guild, this guide is absolutely spot on bro, one of the best WoW content creators out there! Your plater proile and Elvui imports are top notch. Keep up the good work Quazii! 💪😎
I know DK is not known For damage but I can guarantee if you run the PvP talent Death Chain when fighting the last boss on Alterac Valley you WILL be top dps hahah I found this out awhile back and now I only run blood on AV.
I started playing my blood DK about a month ago and watched this video. And it has completely changed my play style and I love the way the blood DK plays. I absolutely agree with using enough haste to make your rotations feel faster, it’s saved me plenty of times in keys. Thanks for the great guide, it made me a way better DK and I absolutely outnumber almost any healer in most dungeons 😂
Great guide! I just add one thing, talk to your healer hahaha. a lot of healers dono how to heal a DK, they panic and waste a looot of cds when you're absolutely fine. One thing that I learned maining bdk is that if you died, it's probl your fault 😂. Call def CDs from your healer and it's more then enough, make them comfortable to dps. Bdk as Vdh only struggles at the very beginning of a pack, that's where you want some help or in very high keys when you can probl get oneshoted but Quazi explained the importance of knowing what is coming. know where your need your cds and you'll be unkillable
Yeah as a healer I've gotten used to reading which DKs are playing well versus just spamming death strike and thus more chaotic to heal. All of you guys are sociopaths regardless tho.
This guide really helped a lot. I used to main bdk in his prime (sl s3) and now I´m comming back to it and I was kinda overwhelmed with the new talent tree so thanks a lot
Thx for the great guide! Planning to run at least some M+ and maybe raid as Blood DK and as a tank for that matter for the first time ever this season. Probably still gonna main my Devoker but got a friend who returned to WoW after a long break so that gives me a good opportunity to learn tanking as he gets back into the end-game stuff.
Great vid guide, just a small correction to what you said: "Each stack of bone shield grants you increased armor" Actually only 1 stack gives you armor meaning that whether you have 1 bone shield stack or the maximum of 10 you will still be getting the 70*str /100 armor. Which makes Death Knights slightly lacking in the armor department. The other issue for me with dks is the fact that through the desire to make the class more balanced they have broken it. As a tank your main idea is to be able to stay alive. In all fairness I think that the current DK loadout requires alot of secondary stats to make up for the things you lack.
I've been considering getting into WoW, though the game hasn't really clicked for me before. Tried Hunter and Rogue before, but ehh. But a Death Knight, especially a Blood DK, might be what I am looking for. I'd usually favor DPS, but it is pretty consistent that tanks usually do better getting into good groups and Blood seems like a fun tank spec.
I know DK is not known For damage but I can guarantee if you run the PvP talent Death Chain when fighting the last boss on Alterac Valley you WILL be top dps hahah I found this out awhile back and now I only run blood on AV.
Thanks for the great guide. Very thorough. I have a question - why don't many people take the 'improved shields' talents - forgot the names. "Shields are 15% more effective on you." And "your auto attacks generate a Shield on you" Seems so good - improves AMS. Your own shields. Mastery Shield. Disc priest shields if grouping with one. Tombshield shield... yet no top players use it. Really not worth it? Edit: looked them up. Permafrost and Gloomward seem very good for blood dk, yet no one takes them.
Until you get a rly decent weapon and your haste is high enough the auto attacking maybe doesnt stack that much of a shield to begin with... Also I believe people are more used to do meta stuff. I myself try to stay as far away from meta as possible and do play both Gloom War (15% more effective shields) + Permafrost (40% auto attack dmg converted to shield), as for Tombstone my opinion is that you can switch to Mark of Blood for Single Target and Raids and go back to Tombstone when pushing Higher Mythic Keys. Since Tombstone is a 1m cooldown I would say your ability to use it depends highly on your ability to produce Runic Power which in turn depends on your Rune Regeneration and that comes from Haste. As currently Death Knights are sort of lacking in the damage department (in my opinion) you spend more effort keeping mobs on you than would other higher damaging tanks. DKs are rly weird right now... Not bad enough to say they are bad, not good as they felt back in legion (I am a returning player from the beginning of BFA). I am pretty sure there could be more competent opinions out there... but decided to chip in.
Started season as BDK. Decided to switch after struggling to tank fortified HoV's 22+, too much trash damage for me. Still love my BDK, hope they get some damage buffs
Thanks so much for the video. Question, I have downloaded your wa setup but it doesn’t seems to track blood shield value anymore. Is it a bug or am I missing something?
I like getting Gorefeind's and Bonestorm, while not the most efficient talents they are just my comfort picks plus bonestorm is great in lower keys when you out gear the content and death strike isn't going past 20%. Also I kinda wish trinkets were talked about a little bit here. Did they nerf blood worms? why isn't this taken anymore?
I will never not skill the aoe grab it's one of the most fun abilities in the game and nothing feels more satisfying than pulling a huge group together so your team can insta aoe it
Am I the only one that specs Rune Tap so I can pop it as I am heading into a pack when I don't have resources? I always feel squishy walking in there with 2 bones and no Runic power, Rune tap takes care of that for me giving me a little time anyways. Thanks for the video Quazii, I always look forward to your master Classes and Tank guides and as a healer main it is nice to know what the tank is thinking (I make my tank buddy watch your videos too).
Or get a group and let your healer give you external on pull. Even better get a ret paladin as well and use his Sac. I mostly only talent Runetap then I know there are specific tank busters. Otherwise i rather spend the point somewhere else. I can recommend to get the 2 minute Icebound for that exact reason. And it doesn’t cost you a rune.
I main Blood DK and wanted to jump in here with some input :) May I recommend Macroing Empower Rune Weapon with Raise Ghoul and DRW and not About Limb. I have Abom Limb Macro'd to Decoration of Flame. This way you can save Abom Limb macro to a shield trinket for those moments when you need an oh shit button. Use the DRW macro to open and save Abom Limb/trinket macro for oh shit moments. (Butt pulls overzealous hunters and such)
Bad idea + declaration of flame is a garbage trinket. You should be using aboms limb/ERW on CD or save if u are finishing a boss/small pack and have a big pull coming up
Prot Pally + Bear - Damage = Blood Dk .... lol or at least thats been my experience... Ive mained Prot and swapped to bear last season and was surprised at how much I understood DK right off the bat...
season 2 DK probably will choose Umbilicus Eternus because it works well with the season 2 tier set this will lose DPS, but DK dps is at the bottom anyways.
It works but it’s actually worse with the set then without since the proccs overwrite the actual big one from pressed Vamp Blood. It’s not bad, but not as good as yo might think
Yes, that’s how you stay alive especially on high fortified keys. With all the absorb multipliers mastery scales like crazy. And a hidden change they did in dragon flight is make your overheal grant you mastery shields. So it tends to be more than the actual healing, even though you might only have around 40% mastery.
@@Burstylez would it be worth? i know the underoot and backheilm or w/e its called have a lot of dispells. But what about all the other dungeons? Is it better to have a aoe purge or a self dispell? These are the questions
I didn’t feel the need yet to dispel anything meaningful. The occasional totem in bracken, but that’s about it. I much prefer goblin. Haste + Jump is fantastic on blood. Or bloodElf to add some additional utility.
Am I weird for having my stat prio be: Crit Haste Mastery-Vers. I really want to do as much damage as possible while tanking, also the idea of maxing out parry just appeals to me a lot.
Question 1: why are you playing blood when you want to do damage as a tank? Question 2: why max out crit/parry? Relying on RNG to survive doesn’t seem like a winning strategy. My Philosophie is: Do as much dmg to comfortably hold Aggro and be as Tanky as possible to consistently enable bigger pulls without kiting. If you can live 1 pack but do a little more damage, but can live 2-3 packs wirh doing less it’s always better. After getting to a good amount of haste and Vers I would max out mastery until the diminishing return kicks in. You have so many multipliers on mastery/absorbs you just get way more out of every point there.
I am running the Permafrost Talent which is consistently preventing damage, along with Icy Talons and stacking haste it's very good too vs magic. I am getting anywhere from 8k to 18k shield every time I swing my weapon. Also you can get like 80% uptime on DRW if used correctly with tombstone which is getting my parry to 68% and I have it up for most of the time on almost every pull. Not saying that his is the better way to play, I am just experimenting and playing the way I get most fun from. Also Storm Infused Stone is consistently doing 50% of my total damage since it procs from crits and it can crit itself.
@@kite9096 in situation where it matter permafrost doesn’t do anything (I.e. fort trash pulls). And I refuse to wear that stupid ring. Not gonna farm that with no one on the island.
@@normannseils3936 actually the ring is a solo thing that you do on the vaults. Free 424. Took me 2 vault runs to get 2 rings. One with 3 stones that give me 40k - 60k shields each stoneb and one that has damage with Storm Infused stone, Blood draining (does dama and heals) and another one that make each stone proc the other so you always get double procs. Pretty sick. Idk. Having free 10k of shielding every 2.3 second and stacking sound really good to me in all situations. And I'm only a 424 Andy, I can only imagine at 441.
Personally i think Purgatory is a waste. If you are a good/great blood DK you will be up long after everyone is dead and this will only save a wipe once ever 20-30 dungeons, not wipes, dungeons.
What content are you doing? I want to see you go into a high fortified key and don’t trigger purgatory multiple times per dungeon, sometimes it just happens. And besides, it enables you to do even bigger pulls, since you know, you have that life-saver. I don’t see it as a once in a few dungeons wipe-saver. I use it on CD do enable bigger pulls.
@@normannseils3936 Get your death strikes right, Purgatory proc means you messed up. did 5 +20's yesterday alone and only died twice on bosses after everyone was already dead. And from the healing perspective it's very easy to tell apart the DK's that know their rotation vs the DK's that spam death strike nonstop.
