Another great video. I watched this video a while back and actually work this idea in my own double chi Sao and found it to work a treat , setting the person up to block the chin strike to open a nice gap to piston punch into ! Keep up the great work

Thank you. Stick with this sequence, it really does make a difference when sparring in Wing Chun. It relies on exploiting the gaps created in the other person's defence. It all helps your overall Wing Chun ability. Thank you for watching.

Does wing chun have an answer for boxing style blocks ? Example shield block , palm block, ect?
@fightscience
@fightscience 9 лет назад
Keagar Weager I don't think it is case of the style having an specific answer for a specific block or attack. Wing Chun is ultimately the art of adaptation. Key to this martial art is to adapt to changes in real-time and not pre-emptively. So yes there will be answers to blocks, but key is how you flow from one to another will adapting to these blocks. This is a good question, may be we'll try and get something on film for you to explain the point more clearly. Great question, thank you.

+The London Wing Chun Academy So true sifu and I find this is what takes the time - training your muscle memory to react to various strikes and situations without thinking about it because if you have to think it is too late to react.

Wing Chun isn't any faster than western boxing. it has a reputation for blinding speed, but in reality the punches don't move any faster than a standard punch in boxing. if one looks at Wing Chun, you see the focus on the center line, all the punches move towards the center. the explanation for this is a "straight line beats a circle line". which sounds good, but isn't necessarily true when you begin the complex movement, especially head movement, in western boxing.

Hi you mention a DVD? Where can I buy it please?

@fightscience 8 лет назад
+Ray 1 thank you for your interest in this DVD. Unfortunately I never finished this project, this is part of the DVD filmed in 2007. I do plan to pick it up again, but I must admit that I've been a little distracted with our modern/current RU-vid clips. As soon as I have news I'll announce it on our channel, I would suggest subscribing for updates in this project. Thanks for watching.

One of my favourite technics. Have been practicing this with my training partner and found that this really puts your partner under a lot of pressure to close the gaps he has let open and ultimately leads him to being compromised. Great video.
@fightscience
@fightscience 9 лет назад
Thank you. we've found this a really useful skill in Wing Chun to help develop a good sparring skill set. The main thing to remember is to withdraw your top arm when striking from underneath. Another key skill in Wing Chun. Thanks for the feedback, we're glad it has helped your Wing Chun training.

Okay so, it's not just about finding/making an opening in the center it's also about breaking his structure with Wing Chun tools. We don't just "block" we want to break him down, turn him, take his balance, break his horse AND hit him... In these examples I don't see a lot of breaking structure I see a lot of looking for openings...which is okay but not the whole picture.

i dont understand the turning process though if im square to my target and i turn im off center and my centerline defense becomes poopy
@fightscience
@fightscience 9 лет назад
Paragon Wallace Hi Wallace, you may be better off getting some direct advice from your Sifu on this matter. As it is difficult to respond without seeing what you are doing. But here goes... Turning is fine, in fact it is standard practice in Wing Chun to turn to deflect force, please refer to the Chum Kiu (aka 2nd Form) as a reference for this. You're not turning off centre, rather rotating around the centre, thereby keeping your structure, balance, and defence intact. Hope this helps you. Kind Regards.

Does wing chun have the Mawashi uke block in it?
@UnleashedTraining101
@UnleashedTraining101 2 года назад
That whole sticking to the arm thing has served me well. My training is in boxing, hapkido, Muay Thai and karate. But cross training with wing Chun concepts has been useful in all of these. I don’t have a long reach, so I tend to get in super close range and aim to swarm and crowd my opponent. I was invoice by mike Tyson in that way. Wing Chun and sticking to the arms is the best way to do that.

This is a fantastic video showing a basic attack combo by Sifu Mark Phillips.
@fightscience
@fightscience 9 лет назад
Sifu Zubbiar Khaan True, very basic and it has so much potential to expand your plane of attack in Wing Chun. It can also be used with footwork. Key point, is to make sure that you withdraw the striking arm when you strike through the gap, otherwise you'll trap yourself. This video explains this point more clearly ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W_tybgcDUio.html Thanks for your support Zubbiar
