Lex, I love you and the positivity you share. I mentally couldnt breastfeed because it just stressed me out and made my anxiety skyrocket. I often feel ashamed I didn't breastfeed longer. The beginning of this video was perfect. Thank you so much.

I am 11 months in to my breastfeeding journey and I wish I had this video before! I just sent it to a friend that’s due in a few months. THANK YOU THANK YOU for addressing ties! My son had tongue and lip. Our pediatrician said he didn’t need it fixed! I would cry in pain. His release has made things soooo much better! We went to a pediatric dentist because they use a laser and we preferred that method.

My babes seemed to cluster feed (have a growth spurt) every three weeks or so. And for first-timers, or those who find it uncomfortable, please make sure your baby is facing you when they latch on. If they are facing up and have to turn their head to feed, they won't get a proper latch and it can cause pain or cracked nipples for mom, and yes that is as bad as it sounds. Just put baby's tummy facing your tummy and your positioning should be fine. La Leche League is a wonderful resource for questions and in some areas, they even have support groups for moms. Nice video, Lex!

4 months Post partum and I was beating myself up the last month because my supply dipped half what it was I was oversupplying since he was born.. I am back at work and I have to pump so I did everything possible last month I could to up my supply and nothing changed it... Well low and behold we are pregnant again irish twins on the way. But man did I beat myself up very hard last month thinking I could just not supply for him. I have to supplement but he is getting half and half right now and will as long as my body will keep it up.

Thank you so much!!! With my first baby, I had no idea what I was doing breastfeeding wise. I thought it would all come naturally to me but I was very wrong. I always felt so guilty for not doing more research about it because my breastfeeding journey with him was not what I had hoped it would be. I am pregnant again and promised myself I would do the proper research this time around and have a better experience with my new baby. This video was sooooo helpful. It's so easy to get overwhelmed with all the information you read on the internet..but this simplified it..and I actually feel like I have a good grasp on what I should do and how I can give my body the best chance to have the breastfeeding journey I dream of. Thank you!!

This is by far the best informative video I’ve ever found on RU-vid ! She is amazing !!!!! I felt the part when she said your baby is gonna be fussy for a while when breastfeeding and your thinking the baby is fussy and not getting enough but that actually means your signaling your body to produce more milk to meet the babies needs . The hand pump is similar to what we had back in the day. It was called a bicycle horn pump. It looks just like a bicycle horn. To pump you squeeze it like a bicycle horn. Or attach it as you said. It's funny how things make a comeback. The hoocha and manual pump does look like a high grade to what I had but it's nice to have a way to catch the liquid gold. I was told to just put a cloth diaper to catch the milk it so you don't get soaked. I never did that as it was nutrition not for a burp cloth. Most important doesn't matter how you feed your baby, just feed your baby. I'm a momma to 8 and let each baby lead me. Great video.

I wish I had this 2 years ago. I had the hardest time starting to breastfeed. I got the wrong advice from nurses in the beginning. I got you need to feed your baby every 4 hours and dont feed just because. You have to wait the 4 hours. After 4 months of struggling I finally found a doctor that would listen to me on the tongue tie. That was cut and it completely changed both of our lives.

This is a great video, this is my third baby (due in January) I had my first two back to back. My first i breastfeed for 3 days I was very overwhelmed and knew nothing my hospital didn’t help me and neither did drs. My second I breastfeed for 5 weeks but I supplemented with supplemental formula and it caused a lot of digestive issues I think plus she had a lip tie and tongue tie they clipped her tongue tie but they didn’t want to do her lip tie till she was 6 months old so I ended up just giving up. I’m trying to figure out everything I can before I have this baby so I can be successful and this video taught er me a lot of what I didn’t know about pumping and freezing milk

Yeah I did bottles right away with both babies. Breastfeeding didnt work out long term with my first, number two def prefers BF over bottle but she will do it fine while I'm at work. I'm thankful I ignored lactation consultant, now the reasoning is you don't want to get engorged and of course you don't want to overdo pumping but a pump in lieu of a feeding is fine.

Great video, very informative! I have a 3 month old and an oversupply. I’ve getting clogs left and right in my right breast. Massaging it while pumping with a back massager releases my clogs pretty quickly. I put a bit of Honest all purpose balm on first so the massager glides more easily. Also, the Legendairy Milk Sunflower Lecithin has been a game changer, I only recently got it, but since taking it I haven’t been getting clogs. I also have the Milkies Freeze, I love that thing!

Tongue/lip ties can also cause other issues down the road for baby as well like with crawling and talking. Even if you don't have issues with breastfeeding it is still a good thing to get checked out. Also I agree doctors don't diagnose very well, may have to go to a chiropractor or a pediatric dentist.

Quick feeds...my child likes to take her time lol, she's 3 months doing 20 min feeds. 5 min would be great! And Silverettes were freaking amazing, I loved them. Worth the money. Thank you sooo much! 💖 I’m having my 2. baby in November and trying my best with breastfeeding this time. One question: at 8 minutes you said the milk that the hakka collected is basically a whole feeding. But isn‘t it just foremilk? Because later on you said you would also pump after baby has fed and mix it with the foremilk that is in the Hakka. Just a little confused about that. Lots of love from Germany 💖
@Lex.Fitzgerald
@Lex.Fitzgerald 4 года назад
Hi! Okay- so try not to put too much emphasis on hind and fore milk. At the end of the day, breast milk is breast milk. Your body creates one type of milk, it’s just sometimes it’s a little fattier and sometimes it isn’t. In those beginning days when your baby is only drinking 2oz, it’s only pulling 2oz from your breast even though your body is probably producing more (hense engorgement). Hind milk and fore milk isn’t super important, it’s just if you forever use the Haakaa and then one day stop breastfeeding and switch to exclusively pumped milk from your stash, the baby will receive less fattier milk than it had been receiving with a combo of stashed milk and breastfed milk. Does that make sense?
@michellet3286
@michellet3286 4 года назад

This is a great informative video! What do you eat or drink to boost your supply? I’ve been trying for the past month to, my baby came 4 weeks early, build a supply and stash and I wanted to exclusively breast feed but we’ve had to supplement with formula. We had all the issues... 😭
@Lex.Fitzgerald
@Lex.Fitzgerald 4 года назад
While supplementing with formula is sometimes so wonderful and a necessity, it really does mess with supply. Whenever your baby is having formula, you need to be pumping the full duration of that feed to signal to your body to create milk. This is regardless of whether you’re actually pumping anything out. Your body needs the signal to supply more.

So we had a NICU stay for 5 days. The first 3.5 days there was no feeding. She had a NG tube and IV. I pumped every 2 hours. Then when they started feeding through her NG tube she got syringes full of colostrum. Then they started a bottle. Now she wont take a breast without a nipple shield. Any ideas on how to get her to take the breast without the shield?

If you give a bottle on day 3, are you pumping during that feed to tell your body to keep producing that milk or skipping it all together? I was always anxious about that the first time. 34 weeks pregnant with our second child and trying not to be milk crazy like I was with number one. I always felt like even if my husband could give a bottle I was chained to my pump anyway so I might as well just feed her myself. I had to pump when I went back to work and built up a large stash while on maternity leave.

On day three I’m still pretty full so I actually went by how I felt. I remember with Willa I did pump but only to replenish the 2oz I got with the Haakaa aka a full feed. I didn’t want to demand more from my body than was actually needed but I also didn’t want my body to miss out on that feed signal entirely.

I have one question. So you use the haaka on day three typically when you go home , but while your still in the hospital trying to get your milk to come in do you offer both breasts at each feed ? Or you just use one boob at the hospital even if you don’t have the haaaka on the other

Why is it that as I’m watching this, keep in mind my youngest is almost two and I am not currently pregnant, both of my breasts are aching as if they are filling up? Does this happen to anyone else? No, just me? Ok.. lol
