For anyone wondering.. The recipe calls for 1/4 cup of instant pudding. Which is 2 ounces, or 4 Tablespoons. I had to figure it out, so I knew how much to buy. Thought I’d save you the trouble. :)
a lonely watermelon Yes, of course you can make them without it. It’s not a main ingredient for the cookies, just like an added effect ingredient. The original cookies do not have vanilla pudding, and they’re very good, so you could still make very good cookies here.:)) Hope this explanation helps..:) xoxo 😘
I made a batch of these babies this past weekend. Oh. My. Stars!! The vanilla sugar and homemade vanilla make a HUGE difference! I did; however, prefer them after completely cooled. Mia’s favorite cookie was a big hit with my friends and I’ve been requested to make and bring them anytime!
I have made so many Batches of this recipe. I even commented a few years ago about it. But I did do some thing a little different the last time I made it and it was a huge hit! I measured out my chocolate chips and chocolate pieces. But you know those don’t necessarily fit into the measuring cup and there’s a little space left over. So I sprinkled in some heath bar pieces. Divine!
Just made the recipe today - the dough is chilling in the refrigerator. I didn't have any pudding mix, so I used 2 small spoonfuls of instant oatmeal, and just extra vanilla extract. I melted my butter, but my dough looks just like yours. Can't wait to see what they taste like. Thanks for the recipe!
I made these today and they were good... they were more on the cakey side but were really chewy!!!! I did use margarine instead of butter, and I flattened the cookie dough a little with the palm of my hands since they looked like they don’t spread much.... thank you for the recipe Laura!
Laura, I love you, and you are my go-to for everything. BUT. I’m skeptical about this one. I don’t know how any cookie recipe could ever be better than your first recipe. The combination of shortening + cinnamon in the mix is amazing. I make them for everyone and always have some dough in my freezer. I’ll try this recipe next week, BUT your original recipe is hard to beat... 😬❤️
Ultimate chocolate chip!?! You can actually top your original recipe!? Whaaaaat? I have to see this!!! Lol your original is my go-to and everyone’s FAVORITE!! So ready for the Christmas recipes Laura!!!!
I made these today, they came out nice and chewy with crispy bits on the edges 🥰 super yummy! Definitely undercook them a bit, they come out very chocolatey. Not too sweet but I might cut 10% sugar next time!
I made these today and they were divine....I have a chocolate chip recipe I’ve used for years, but I think I’ve found a new one to replace it. My family LOVED them...thanks Laura 😉
Wow Laura good timing as I was just talking with my friend about making cookies next Saturday for the little party I was doing. I wasn't sure what recipe to go to as I was a looking for a more chewy cookie recipe. Thanks for this recipe. I will try it next weekend and let you know how it turned out
These look so good!! I can’t wait to make them!! Question, my understanding of vanilla sugar is that it’s just regular granulated sugar with a split open vanilla bean pod in it and let it sit for X amount of time so the vanilla can infused into the sugar. Am I correct?
@@kathabunga How long do you think the sugar would have to sit with vanilla bean pod. I'm sure you mean to scrape the pod and put that into the sugar? Yes?
@@irenebonomo4575 Hi Irene! I've done this only once long time ago as vanilla bean pods are true luxuries here in Sri Lanka.. so because we were too stingy to throw it away we put it in the sugar jar and it was there for months! :D So I'm not sure for long you must keep it to be used for a specific purpose like this.. Sorry I'm unable to be more helpful on this..
Going by Alton Brown's recipe (Food Network), scrape the seeds into an airtight container along with the sugar and also bury the bean in the sugar. Make sure the container is sealed tightly. He also says to let it sit for one to two weeks. You can use the vanilla sugar just like regular granulated sugar.
WoW ! You A Food Genius ! You Know Everything About Food ! I’m A Retired Marine I Cook 2-3 Times A Week . I Go Too LAURA IN THE KITCHEN . YOU A FOOD GENIUS !!!
Happy Saturday to you Laura! Those cookies look absolutely amazing and delicious! They're my favorite! Thanks for the upload my dear! Have a great weekend!!
Definitely making these. I like that you can freeze the dough because I'd have to get these eaten up. Maybe fill an ice cube tray with these and freeze so can just pop out and cook. Thanks Laura.
Laura! I love your recipes I tested this recipe against someone else on RU-vid (not mentioning names) who said theirs was the best. Well we had a taste testing in our family (yes I made two different batches) and this recipe won unanimously! This recipe is so so perfect. Yup it’s definitely the best.
When I saw you posted a cookie recipe I got so excited! Every recipe from you Laura has always turned out perfect! Omg the pumpkin white chocolate cookies are my fav. These look so yummy can’t wait to make these. Thanks for sharing ❤️
I referenced the written recipe before watching this video and the written recipe simply says 'butter, melted,' so I melted the butter completely instead of 'semi-melted' like you did here. Because of this my mixture didn't get that fluffy no matter how long I mixed it. Fingers crossed they still taste good!
Too funny that your secret ingredient is vanilla pudding. My Grandma made these all the time for me! My hubby doesn't like them because they're not his Mother's recipe, but I think these are the best chewy cookies.
The addition of the instant vanilla pudding is very interesting, however, from previous experience, it be good to err on the side of caution and cut the sugar amounts in half esp since we are adding both semi sweet and milk chocolate, or keep the sugar amounts as it and use bittersweet chocolate instead.
My guess would be it’s because they don’t want people skipping the video and just going straight to the written recipe which I totally get but who doesn’t want to watch Laura?!
The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Ingredients 2-1/2 cups of All Purpose Flour 1/4 cup of Instant Vanilla Pudding 1 tsp of Baking Soda 1/2 tsp of Salt 1 cup (2 sticks) of Unsalted Butter, melted 3/4 cup of Brown Sugar 1/3 cup of Vanilla Sugar 2 Eggs 2 tsp of Vanilla Extract 1-1/2 cups of Semisweet Chocolate Chips 4 oz Bar of Milk Chocolate, broken into small pieces
Chocolate and pecan goes as well together as chocolate and milk that is why a Derby Pie made with chocolate and pecan is so magnificent. A chocolate chess pie (an old fashioned recipe) with a topping of finely grated pecans is wonderful.

Okay, I’ve made several more batches of these cookies only to be declared as a baking goddess. I accept this title whilst adjusting my makeshift tiara. Brava!
Can you pretty please make a double choc chip cookie recipe too? I am on the hunt for the best double choc chip cookie recipe. I think you may be the one to do it! Please Laura?
Ok Laura, you got me in the holiday baking mood...my cookies are in the fridge...can't wait to bake them....think I better freeze some dough or I'll be huge by christmas lol
Hey Laura! We don't get instant vanilla pudding around this part of the world much (at least not without costing an arm and a leg). Can we use your homemade vanilla pudding mix instead?
Use browned butter instead. It makes the cookies unbelievably rich and delicious. You just have to cool it down a bit in the fridge before adding the eggs so you do not cook them.
Laura! Taking these ultimate bad boys to an outdoor movie under the stars Saturday night. TOP NOTCH cookies 🍪 wow. Make them gang. It's a definite repeater.
These beautiful cookies would make great Christmas presents for friends just wrap them up in a Christmas cellophane and a nice ribbon and their name on a tag thank you Laura
