My wish is a10tx mk2 or a20(not mini) ...all functionality of a20mini plus phantom power , longer batery life and display... :) anyway , thank you for another great video.
I too had a MixPre3 for a while as my micro bag rig (I too like Portabrace bags if I'm going for a light setup!). But I've sold the MixPre3, this was my logic as to why: A common situation for this rig would be a doco / interview / corporate / etc for two people speaking on camera. So that's two channels taken up of the three the MixPre3 has, and of course you always have to have a boom too. Well, now you've ran out of channels! How often are you on a shoot when they say last minute "oh, we're going to follow around this extra person as well during this doco" or "oh, we're going to have the interview now be a double header on camera + the interviewer" or any of a million other scenarios where you're going to have just "one more person" on camera. I'm now screwed with the MixPre3 😕Have to go through the hassle of dragging out a whole new bag rig to use instead of the MixPre. I'd much rather be able to immediately respond back with "sure, no problem!" and throw quickly a lav onto the "surprise" third person. So that's why my "mini bag rig" is now a Zaxcom Maxx with a couple of Lectro SRb. (to be fair, it's not much lighter than my Sound Devices 833... although, the Maxx needs much less battery power, so I can save a bit extra in carrying a half size battery too instead if I wish. But really, I rarely if ever use the Maxx now) Ah well, maybe I'll get a MixPre6mk2 one day if I see a good deal on it.
I just picked up a MixPre3ii to use as a backup to my main recorder or for grabbing ambiences. I'm a little nervous about the single card slot when using it as a primary recorder, I'd feel better if I had a DCR822 in the bag with it recording at the same time. Does this bother you or am I being overly cautious? I should probably try killing the power to see if the MP3 offers any form of file recovery.
It’s rare I use a mix pre 3 as a primary dialogue capture source, but I wouldn’t hesitate to trust it or deploy it as so since my experience with them is they are rock solid. Back ups and redundancy are key for me and always a good idea! But at a certain point you’ll need to rely on something to get the job done.
When you talk about all your different kits you don't mention your no bag rig you presented in a previous video. It makes me wonder : did you give up on it ? Then why ? Or did this setup just repalce it ?
Hi Renaud, I haven’t completely given up on it. But it did end up in a MS stereo kit of sorts, it’s been a while since I’ve done a one-man band type situation so I might bring it back I’m certainly not gonna carry a heavy bag!
@26:00 you're missing Sonosax! ;-) (of course you're not missing out mentioning Zoom... because they're already there with their Zoom F8n Pro! :-P Sadly Tascam is AWOL, I wonder what a Tascam HS-P82 mk2 released in 2022 would be like??)
