In this week's session, we take a walk through the menus of the Sound Devices A20 wireless microphone receiver and then we answer your sound for video questions.

That was great, even though I will never use any pro gear, it was fascinating to see what all the gear is capable of now. As a retired engineer, I can't stop watching videos on high tech gear! I enjoyed this replay, but missed the live stream. Again.

1:04:37 Once you buy lenses, that seals the deal for a camera system. It's one thing to sell a camera, another to unload a lens collection.

Definitely. Though another factor here is that I use the GH5s as overhead cameras for the livestream where the smaller sensor works nicely for keeping everything in focus. The full frame sensor of the S5 II wouldn't be the right replacement for my use case. That'd more likely be the GH6, but I also don't want another fan close to my mic for the overhead shots on streams so that's out as well. Some day, when the GH5 stops working I'll have to make a decision. But for now, I'll just keep those GH5s working. (they've definitely paid for themselves).

Absolutely outstanding content Curtis - truly the best overview available. Paul Isaacs should see this - he'd love it! Do you know what level of integration you'd get with a third party RX in the SL-2 sled? Say a Lectrosonics SuperSlot RX unit.

I've been using the A20-mini transmitters for feature films. I think they're fantastic. You keep mentioning the battery life, but I think you have to have a different mindset and workflow with them. I have a phone that stays connected to the transmitters and I turn them off remotely between setups. Doing this, with the single Sony battery, I can get a full 12 hour day out of them. Would I use them for reality TV? No. But for what I do, the advantage in the size and being able to adjust the gain from the RX is well worth it.

So excited for fairlight course. Will be buying at first opportunity. Will this be a separate course from Fairlight Fundamentals or an expansion of that course? Do you have a specific release date? FWIW, I’d love to buy a production sound fundamentals+new Fairlight bundle.

Does the PSC Triple Play pass battery level information through to your 888 unit?

As far as I know, it does NOT send any digital telemetry. The 888 simply assesses the voltage like any other battery source and uses that to decide whether to draw from the PSC or other inputs.

Ok @@LearnLightAndSoundSessions - another question, hope you don't mind. Power. I am guessing you run with two 98 Watt-hour Hi-Q batteries or similar into your Triple Play. In a typical day, how long would those last? Assuming you are powering your 833/888, two RX units and maybe something else in the bag? Just wondering if 2 or more batteries is a solution I'd need. Remote Audio has designed a battery cup that can pass battery telemetry - REM BDSHQCS2. TIA!

@@derekjcooper depends on a lot of factors - how many inputs you’re using, how many receivers, phantom power on how many channels, etc. For my setup - 888 with SL-2 and two A20 receivers, i get from 4 to 5 hours on 2 Hi-Q batteries if memory serves. Nowadays I have the kit on a cart with a much bigger battery so I haven’t powered solely by Hi-Q batteries in several years so this estimate may be a bit off.

Please don't review the zoom M - series. its a waste of money. I'd rather buy a vintage H4n. But if you do get the new A20-Monarch, i'd be interested in an antenna range shootout video
