Will these sailors brave the biggest storm of their lives, or turn back to safety? Find out in this epic episode where we are at the Point of No Return! With massive waves, sustained winds over 40 knots, and gusts over 50 knots, our small sailboat is no match for the fury of the South Atlantic Ocean. Watch as we push ourselves to the limit facing the ultimate decision, risking everything for the thrill of the open sea.
About Us:
We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands.
From there we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. Maarten where we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay.
Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is where we are headed now. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile.

That Boom Brake Sounds Stiff....Id say grease it but that would be Stooooopid. It works fine I'm sure. Nice good old fashioned sailing, and I thought I'd comment to get old Y-T to give you a few points for viewer participation.

We appreciate the comment Allyn! How's the boat coming along this week? The boom brake actually uses friction from the line. It's great for long sails, but gets in the way during maneuvers.

Hello Ms. Kate and Curtis, they have a very large anticyclone stationed in the southern cone of South America, it exceeds 1013 mb, don't worry and keep going, it's just hot and it's absorbing the little moisture you have on the continent, RUN AND EXCEED THE SOUTHERN CONE BEFORE MARCH 21, you will have squalls and the nautical mixer will make itself felt. blessings to all three 😅🌎🌏🌍

I bet it was the right decision. Close to the coast you'd face worst wave conditions for it's not as deep as offshore. Everytime Amyr Klink goes to Antarctica, he takes this route via Falklands. As long as the weather permits, that sounds like the the better one. The unknown is always a bit scary, but you're both very capable to face this journey! Fair winds!

@SailingSweetRuca
@SailingSweetRuca Год назад
Glad you are keeping a close eye Jorge! Guessing maybe you are actually seeing a snap shackle? The blue line is likely the check stay (IFS backstay) and has a shackle to connect it to dyneema stays, or to our preventer, depending on what tack we are on.

@SailingSweetRuca Год назад
@@jorgeconcheyro No worries! We know you have the best intentions and appreciate the extra eyes, sometimes things are caught in the videos we never notice! We did check the line, and it does have some chafe on the cover in places from ruubbing the boom and lifeline, but nothing that will impact performance. The paint on the other hand, a huge impact on performance. We are consistently sailing faster in the same conditions, and noticed we gained about 3-400 rpms and almost 1/2 knot of boatspeed under engine.

I'm assuming the underwater footage was when the engine was on as the feathering prop was rotating? I've noticed your gear shifter is usually in reverse whilst sailing , I presume to force the prop to feather ? Great episode and thanks for sharing the passage planning decisions, there's a heck of a lot to think about, not to mention setting up and using the IT .

Hi Graham! Thanks for the great comment. Yes the prop was rotating, we had the engine on to charge, and when possible it is good to put a little load on it and efficient to use the extra horsepower. We do normally sail with the shifter in reverse to feather the prop.
