We spent 5 weeks travelling Greece last year in our self converted van #van life. John has made over 20 trips to the country, (it's one of his favourites), This video brings together years of experience and squeezes in the highlights from last years trip. We include information about Athens, how to drive there and what to see, costs and other handy tips. Delphi, and the Corinth Canal. The Peloponnese is included, with information about what to see and do there, (excellent van life destination). We also cover the North of Greece and finally we head to two islands to compare which we enjoyed the most. Santorini or Naxos,
In this Travel Guide to Greece we aim to inspire you and whet your appetite for some of Greeces most interesting and exciting destinations. We try to get off the beaten path Greece, and endeavour to provide tips and advice on where to go, how much it costs and how to get the most from your own trip to Greece.
We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. We release new videos every Sunday sharing our story, and we’d love for you to be a part of it with us. 3 weeks ago my wife and I stumbled across your videos for the NC500 whilst researching a potential trip, since then we’ve gone back and watched every single video you’ve made and the incredible journey you’ve both been on, we’ve sat every evening in bed glued to the TV to see what happens next… having binge watched the last year of your lives can we just say. What a lovely genuine couple you both are, such a good way in which to view life, such positivity about everything and such love for each other, it’s been an absolute pleasure to feel like we’ve been there with you along the way, and share in some of your most personal moments. Then when young Crusoe arrived and happens to have the same birthday as my wife we were made up for you. We’re not on social media which is a shame as we have so many questions. Your focus on enjoying every minute has been very inspiring and we’ve added new words to our vocabulary too, with John’s “Narly”. If you’re ever in the Birmingham area please let us know, we’d love to buy you dinner.. stay safe, take care of your wonderful little family and keep the videos coming, we can’t wait to see where the next adventure is.. What a lovely guide to Greece you guys. Currently experiencing (another) Covid lockdown in Melbourne and seeing your guide does my soul much good. Still amazed though at how a pregnant Tara hiked to the top of Mt Zas on Naxos. After that extraordinary effort, she did indeed earn the right to dismiss ‘Zeus’ as baby’s name. Young Crusoe, never forget your supermum dodged you a big, bronze bullet right there!

Hi Flaneur great to hear from you. Sorry about your lockdown. :( You remember Tara bouncing up mount Zas, feels like ages ago now and so much has changed, and yet not much has changed. Here we are, sat in Wales right now, sunshine reveals and we have just finished climbing a mountain, only difference is, Johns carrying Crusoe now not Tara!! Really excellent photography. You give us a unique perspective. Great tips about avoiding the crowds too. You can tell Tara adores John by the way she can't keep her eyes off of him and John relies on Tara the way he looks to her for confirmation. Great, great great!!! Greece (Hellas) is home, let me suggest you some places especialy for you. 1) Epirus (Vikos Gorge / Voidomatis river / Kolympithres near Papigo Village. Generally Epirus will take your heart. 2) Pelion Mount in Thessaly 3) Messinia region in Peloponnese / Ancient Messini / Voidokilia beach / Polylimnio / Methoni castle 4) West Macedonia (from Gianitsa to Florina), rivers, lakes, forrests, villages and spectacular road trip 5) Arcadia region Peloponnese, the birth place of Hellenism 6) Central mountenus Greece (Hellas) 7) Islands for you... Lesvos, Chios, Samothrace in Aegean sea and Paxos Kefalonia in Ionian sea. Put the names I wrote on youtube to watch some videos of these places. Wish you the best for your lovely family.

A brilliant tip around Greece, wherever you are; Please, please - do not forget the music scene in Greece! It is amazing! I promise you, you will never ever ever forget it! I went to Athens in September 1993 for 2 nights at the Herodes Atticus Odeon in Akropolis to see Yanni. You can see the whole show online or dvd. It was so much magic in the air and the smell of pine & honey and "some old spice after shave from the man beside me". Even if you go to a small restaurant on a Saturday night, be a part of Europe - take a plate, smash it and go Opa! It´s a huge tradition, express your gratitude, embrace life, dance the night away.

That was a great Greece guide!!! I believe anyone can find something interesting to them as you incorporated both popular places and the not so touristy ones. Brilliant idea to show clips from when you visited while also having you chilling on the sofa and telling all about them. Jane! Yorkshire Dales, excellent fun, how was it? We are thinking of a trip up there too. “Last of the summer wine” etc.. So with quarantine keeping us at home, we were worried about releasing a short video from Wales rather than a fun one, which next Sunday’s is defiantly going to be. But that was just for the night , as I had to do some work at home , and we also had our second jab yesterday which all went well , we are now both looking forward to august to travel towards the east maybe starting with Kent , it is so much nicer when you have more time to take it all in and travel just where you fancy , have a great week 🥰

Totally and completely enamoured with you both and adore traveling the world with you!! We loved seeing Athens again. Only one suggestion, the music is so loud it keeps us from hearing your dialogue so if that can be corrected it will be perfection! I love you both and the children too! Sadly, the sunsets were obscured by pollution from the many forest fires burning out of control in the north of the province. I will be back there in a few days for the rest of the summer (no internet) and hopefully some amazing sunsets.

Just happened on your videos. Great photography and commentary. Binge-watching them now. Next time you are in the Peloponnese, right after Kalamata, continue on to Kardamyli, Stoupa and Agios Nikolaos Just on the other side of the main town and beach in Stoupa, you will find Kalogria beach which is just a perfect sandy gentle sloped beach for Crusoe. Continue on south as there are some amazing towns and sites to visit in the Mani Peninsula.
