Every detail you need to know about this Game Wave Family Entertainment System created by Canadian company Zapit Games and Nytric Limited. I’ll dive deep into the history, the marketing, and the 13 games: 4 Degrees: The Arc of Trivia, Bible Edition, 4 Degrees: The Arc of Trivia, Vol. 1, 4 Degrees: The Arc of Trivia, Vol. 2, Click!, Gemz, Letter Zap!, Lock 5, Rewind 2007, Rewind 2005, Rewind 2006, Sudoku, VeggieTales: Veg-Out! Was looking for videos on some obscure "7th" gen consoles, was quite surprised to find such a fresh one, and also high quality and on point.

I remember setting this up as a demo unit at "The Source by Circuit City" which was basically Radio Shack renamed. It felt incredibly cheap and I thought it was just a dvd player with a marketing gimmick, but I was able to play it while working so I put a few hours on this machine lol.

Lol radio shack went through so many names and got so much worse. 😅 now they are just "Source" here in Canada, and they are a shell of what radio shack was.

It was. The games were essentially just DVDs with a scripting functionality that allowed for some more features.

Wow a Game Wave video! I found one of these at the thrift store here in the US, but i have no remote and just one game that was inside. So this is great!

Excellent work with an exhaustive history. I like the Game Wave and also have the full library. I got my first one in a US discount/close out store in '06 or maybe '07. While the blog was active I won a game from them and was sorry they didn't find more success. The idea that the market had a spot for a simple and inexpensive family game system was absolutely correct as the Wii's success shows. You can attribute that to motion controls, but it really is that it was simple and easy to understand compared to what the rest of the market offered. This is the same market that the Intellivision Amico was hoping to tap. The only point that you didn't explicitly mention is that all of the software had a specific design ethos. Every game had to have simultaneously multiplayer (not taking turns). Trying to come up with ways to adapt traditional games to be played by everyone at once was another limiting factor to the games that could be offered. Again, great work explaining this lessor known system. I thought I knew everything but I learned more from you. Thank you.

I completed the set for this console! Such an odd console. Many of the games can be found sealed, but they are very difficult to find as they rarely pop up on eBay.

Pretty good video! Glad to help out a bit with the Quiz Konnect stuff. Learned a bit of stuff I didn't know about, like some of the Blogpost and Bzz stuff. I've seen those Bzz pamphlets before, but didn't know what it was.

These standalone niche game consoles are always interesting. I don't think the games are bad conceptually and probably would have done okay if they were on a different console. There is a party game called Hidden Agenda on PS4 that is interesting where it uses phones as the controller. Those games never really took off but I enjoyed the concept and have played it with friends and they enjoyed it too.

Randomly found one of these at thrift store, I thought it was just a unlabeled DVD player with 6 remotes for some reason since the logo sticker was gone, but after learning about it, this is the funniest console I now own. (I get how this is a family console, but this thing 100% needed a You Don't Know Jack game.)

Would love to see a ultimate guide for the Atari XEGS you don’t hear much info about it

I may be out of my league for that one. I don't have much knowledge about the Atari computer family, which would be key to understanding the XEGS.

The console doesn't seem well designed if it's giving you a plastic smell every time. They also could have probably saved money with smaller controllers and console size, sell it for even cheaper. Maybe have playable arcade games that aren't just quiz games.

I think party games and see Mario Party, leaves or Kart games. the Game Wave seems to leave a lot on the table.

Move over Super Mario, the Game Wave is here. I actually rather like the design of the console though, other than the controllers. It feels like there was some potential in this thing.
