Tbh they do have incentive to do it. All of the fonts that are used in these eye-catching designs can often only be bought from them, so in the end they make money from the video
@reqoil

But this knowledge is free anyway.
@marktaylor2087
@marktaylor2087 Год назад
@@liamjoubert7425 just because they have an incentive doesn't mean it's not really useful knowledge, you can apply the knowledge to typefaces you find on Google Fonts etc and the video doesn't push the purchase of their typefaces.The examples given were just examples, used to demonstrate certain points but as the video points out, there are 1000s of font variations depending on your use. It's not like a lot of sales driven content that's like HERE'S THE THINGS YOU MUST USE IF YOU DON'T WANNA LOOK 2012.

As someone just starting out with graphic design, this is the best introductory tutorial I've come across so far. I'd never really given much thought about the importance of typeface and the structure of fonts when it comes to choosing the correct one for a particular purpose. One thing I've learned is if you don't notice the font style, then whoever selected it has done a good job. I don't mean it shouldn't be eye-catching, or draw attention to itself, it should just fit. If it doesn't, then there needs to be a good reason why that's the case. I've never really understood why I find certain typefaces pleasing and attractive, or noticed the subtle differences between them. Now I feel a bit more confident I can make better selection choices because I at least know there are a few certain conditions and characteristics I need to consider at a practical level. Thank you so much for this, it's helped me a lot.

Awesome Video! Love how simple you made typography appear. Honestly I was loosing my mind trying to understand what my collage was teaching me. So you saved me with this content. Wish I had more time to time stamp your entire video. GEOMETRIC 13:07 Characteristics 1. Optically circular bowls 2. little to no stroke contrast 3. Characters typically are very rectangular 4. The letter O displays Vertical Stress apposed Horizontal or Diagonal stress 5. There is commonly 0 modulation, even weight and no contrast in the letter O. usually feature a single-story lowercase a. Which indicates that there is a Closed Loop but no Open Loop like we see in a doubled story a. SCRIPT 13:40 Script is broken into two big different categories Formal & Casual These fonts are not suitable for body copies. Instead use them for display texts. Headlines, Titles or very short copies. Formal Script 13:58 Use cases. Formal scripts are elegant typefaces used on wedding invitations and diplomas. They are inspired by writing from the 17th & 18th century. Swishes Exaggerated Flourishes Characteristics of Formal Script 14:06 1.Each character Includes a End Tail for fluidity Which is more commonly known by how cursive font connects. 2.Swashes are mainly features in script fonts to adorn characters. Terminology for describing different types of design on the back of capital letters that where at the beginning of each word displayed. Exaggerated Flourishes, Swirls, swishes, expressive display, extravagant display, melodramatic display 14:20 Casual Script Fonts PS. I don't know if you want my home work as a comment or not. But let me know if you would rather have me take it down. Thanks again.

Hint I learned long long back from a pre-computer typesetter (that did dry transfer lettering, like Letraset). When kerning a header, put the text up-side down. It releases your brain from interpreting the letters and you see more easily where you need kerning. To illustrate this, take out some book from your shelf with titles on their backs and turn them so the text is upside down. You will find that some have very bad kerning that you would not have spotted if having them in normal orientation :)

BRO Typeface is actual word not Font.Font is property of Typeface let me clear it with example "ROBOTO" is typeface not font. if we use roboto bold then it is font of Roboto...bcz bold is property we apply to our typeface😅 hope you get it

Thank you so much. I have loved fonts for years. I even used to design fonts. I think that it goes back to the fact my grandfather was a German typesetter/printer (typography instead of fonts). One of my greatest joys in life was downloading then installing Helvetica. Was that illegal? You gave a really wonderful and in-depth explanation of typefaces and fonts. It is the best that I have ever seen. Can you tell me where to download Órchó GC font? Just kidding. I doubt that you can. Subscribed.

What's it called if a letter or symbol is offset halfway or by an x-height? ie, say you write a fraction where each the numerator and denominator are potentially cap-height, and there's another number or variable multiplied out front centered after the fraction. Or you have a list of two items, a curly brace encompassing them both so it's twice a cap height, and there's words centered after the brace.
