This is the first and only time I have ever seen on RU-vid one of these cranes mounted properly. Everybody else thinks they can put plates under and over the sheet metal and get away with it. There is no way that will EVER work. ---- You did it 100% right.
Thinking of welding one to my flatbed but i think that's 3/16 diamond plate welded to I beam frame rails. Maybe some bolts and reinforcement beneath too for good measure.
Nice build! I recommend a dedicated deep-cycle battery for it. You can wire it up to charge off the alternator with an isolator. Your starter pack is made for starting. That crane will leave you unable to start your truck one day if you lift one too many things.
@Kyle-ev4fk the last one lasted almost 4 years and then I let it go completely dead during an -20 cold snap and it didn't survive. I replaced it and have not had any problems for about 1.5 years. And now everything I own is connected to a maintainer
Thanks. This crane has been a huge help around my shop. I have access to a forklift, a skid steer, and en engine hoist and I still find myself using this crane quite a bit
Great Video-You showed me just what i wanted to know about what the crane will lift and Thanks for the added support under the Box Bed were you secured the Crane to. Very good idea! Thank You Very Much-Tim in MI
So glad I came across your video. I was looking for a way to engineer a truck jack with automation in a safe, smart way. And then I see your video. Voila! Nice video. Well presented. Easy to follow. Great examples, btw, showing how you lifted practical things into the truck. That was actually very helpful. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Great video. Was looking up truck lift videos when I backed up into this one. Love the boss running around in daddy's shop. Reminds me of my 5 year old granddaughter; always close to her daddy when he is working. Rides with him on the bulldozer, skid steer, and other heavy equipment he is running. Thanks again
Well done mate, just dropped by for some ideas as I’m building one for a tray side so it can mount right behind the cab. Good job on the mounting and your first go at welding. Not many people bother making a proper mount like that and end up pulling the hoist out of the floor. Cheers Stuart, Australia 🇦🇺
Just ran across your channel due to this crane video! Glad I found ya and I with out a doubt subscribed. Great stuff. I look forward to watching all your videos!
Appreciate the time ans effort showing how this works and how you mounted. Im single (widowed) femlae and I've needed to get something for lifting and loaded The old grey mare ain't what she used to be.. lol. Thanks
Well this is the first video I have watched on a truck bed crane and you're moving an iron block 5.3 which is exactly the reason I'm buying a bed crane haha. Nice job on welding the square tubes to the frame. You're probably the only person that has.
@gatewaygarage4490 I have that one already. I've had it in the box only used it twice to pull my big matco toolbox into a uhaul trailer when I switch jobs haha. I have an $8 harbor freight snatch block on it too. Doubles the pulling force.
Great video and good install of the crane. However, the 5 year old shop manager should be in her office and away from danger especially when hoisting equipment. I wish you the best for you and your family and your work.
RIGHT - noticed that problem right off the bat. Stats on "Farm Injuries" describe a dangerous place for adults and children. Bit she's sure Daddy'll protect her - and, apparently, quite familiar with that shop and creeper. How'd you know she was five?
I know it seems she was under the load but it's really camera angle. If you watch closely you notice I am backing her up and asking her to scoot back. Not that I feel I need to justify my parenting on the internet lol.
Awesome Job with making this video. Nice to find one on these cranes and a good one at that. Btw what a clean ass truck. Looks like my 95. Hard to see that there's like no rust on that thing. You don't see them in that good of shape.
i load a lot of wood. big wood. and i also scrap metal. i just bought the crane. this idea with the winch is really fantastic. im not getting any younger and my back has seen better times. the crane is on sale now 99$ and the winch is 59$. 17$ for the pulley. so for under 200 bucks its a great helper. i also want to mount a spare battery with a shut off , so you can run the winch and not worry about if the truck will start. cheers.
I'm trying to do the same thing. Could you post a couple pics of where you put the winch and how you did the pulley? Also, everyone seems to install it on the right side of the bed. Do you know if it can go on the left? Which side would be easier when it comes to jacking up the jack? Looks hard to reach on the right-side. Also looking for what type of pulley. Looks like he welded it on. I just want to make sure it's enclosed so the cable won't slip off the pulley. Any help is greatly appreciated.
@@cindysauer4103 i bought a [2in TUF-TUG sheave block]. from tractor supply. i got longer bolts and ran them through the steel tubing. at the end. the 2500 lb winch from harbor freight. mounted to the side of arm. i put it on passenger side to stay away from the gas tank for wires and bolts through the bed. also when your pulled over on the side of a road. your safer on that side from passing cars. i use it to winch up metal and trees from ditches. cheers.
Looks good man wicked good job I need to come up with something for my 100lb propane tanks I got 4 and then 4 30lb ones 30lbs not so bad I can lift but the 100lbs I been loading and unloading myself and it’s to much I need to make something like this nice job man
Thank you Thank you Thank you. I have a bunch of eight foot railroad rails to load on a flatbed, probalby 300 lbs each, and I was wondering if the truck bed crane might work. I was thinking of getting the one with the hand crank, but I really really like how slick the electric winch and crane combo worked. It got me to thinking. I have this one ton flatbed truck that I use to pull trailers and I always thought I would use it more to move heavy objects, and I think the reason I haven't is because the bed is four feet off the ground, and the only way I've ever been able to load anything heavy on it was with a fork lift, and I don't have a fork lift. I wonder if I had your crane and winch combo on that flatbed, maybe have a way to move it from corner to corner, I might start using that flat bed for more things. I was very glad to actually see it work in this video. THanks again !!!
I use one to lift large metal pieces for fabrication it works great. Only thing I did different is taking off the wire cable and replacing it with nylon webbing from a ratchet strap. The webbing is easier to handle, cheap to replace and doesn’t have a tendency to spin like steel cable will.
Thanx for the demo. This thing popped up on HF email coupons for 99 bones, so I had to check it out. I was initially thinking for my 3/4 ton, but honestly I do more work type truck bed hauling with my half ton. I'm thinking maybe one would be awesome if I could find a good place to mount one of these to my dump trailer.
Nice job I need to come with something like this I got 4 100lb propane tanks and 4 30lb tanks the 30lb ones I can do but the 100 lb there heavy and I gotta do something like this I been hauling by hand well I was then smartened up and bought a dolly then I’m like you know what it’s 2023 I gotta come up with something so I don’t have to lift period this is a good idea and you did a great job good work man keep it up god bless🙏🤙
I've been thinking to get one to lift the head off my truck haha then keep it in there for other projects once the truck is running again. I don't think it's going to reach the engine bay crew cab long box. Appreciate your video.
I do see your content wit yo crane that's wat I Ben trying time get some one to do one for me on my new Gladiator pic up truck for my scooter for a yr already but no luck yet
nice job, check out the higher price wireless remote in a plastic case, you will be happy with it, the cheaper one has a lot of lag great job on the subframe
Ok I understand now... Those engine hoists have a higher WLL rating because they are designed with the integrated stabilizer legs... The pickup truck hoists are rated almost half or quarter of the engine hoists because they are designed to be bolted to the truck bed, BUT because he built his own stabilizer frame/leg, his WLL rating is higher and can lift the heavy engine block with the higher WLL capacity winch.. Thank you for the demonstration!
I've got the exact crane (minus the winch.). I only plan on lifting the predator 3400 generator(100 lbs), and loading the occasional deer. I was hoping I wouldn't have to beef up under the truck bed for that. Just planning on using the L brackets. What do you think? Great video, thanks!
That little winch... You can double its lifting capacity if you use a snatch block connected back to the top of the crane. Sure it will take double the time but also double the load. Might help it last a lot longer. I guess the truck suspension has its limits as well...
Where’d you get the roller wheel for the end of the cable on the crane? Just bought the same setup lol. You’ve inspired me! Got the 2500lb winch however.
Have you figured out a way to lock it in position with the crane arm parallel to the truck bed? We just installed one and there's no proper locking pin placement where the crane arm is front to back locked in place. It'll only lock in place at 90° and then the two other positions between 45 and 120. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before we start drilling another set of holes in the pipe that's mounted to the bed of the truck.
Nice work. Curious, do you ever lift with the arm retracted? When pulling that pipe, could you have a) lowered the arm completely, and B) retracted it fully to get a better low-angle pull?
Yeah probably. I usually lift with it extended to overcome the tailgate. If I had something like a tail roll I'd even point the arm toward the cab of the truck and use a snatch block to pull things into the bed. I recently used that method to pull my riding lawn mower up the ramps into the bed of my truck.
I don’t know, buddy. I have watched a few videos over the last few years and I feel like you have the raw material to have a great channel here. I know how hard it is to do, but get yourself a good camera and mic and you might just have something. Keep it up.
Outstanding video I’m getting old and every time I take the tool box out of my truck I throw my back out I have an 2017 f150 with aluminum bed Do you think this mount would work?
Just had to remove the rear bed boots and loosen the front ones a little. You can lift the rear of the bed enough the sneak the support in over the bumper. I used tube that was the same size as the bed support cross member's so it sits back down flush to the bed mounts. I did fully remove the bed and weld all around the support a few months later but only because I was swapping the bed anyway
So how did you get your welded in frame for the winch under the bed? Did you actually have to take the bed of your truck off in order to get that in there?
Question: I had looked at this truck mounted crane, but my F-150 is all aluminium chassis. I like your idea. But, not sure the body will holdup. Any opinion?
Still working great. Used it to haul a skid steer tire to the tire shop yesterday. I wish I would have spent the extra 20 bucks for the wireless controlled winch instead of the wired controller
need your opinion on something, i have a laser cleaning machine with is around 450lbs. its around 3-1/2 ft tall and around 2-1/2ft long and around 1-1/2ft wide. its on casters. i cant decide if i should get a truck to then fit bigger wheels to roll it up and down ramps with a winch fitted at the back of the truck bed, or get a suv and a trailer and roll it up and down a trailer. i also will have a gennerator on wheels to take it with me. as im typing this, a trailer does make more sense. so i guess i want a truck, but i really need a trailer.
The engine I loaded was probably close to the weight of your laser machine and I don't think I'd want to do that everyday. I think the crane would handle it ok but the winch would struggle.
@@gatewaygarage ive seen videos where people mounted a 1000lb winch at the back of the truck bed then pull stuff up a ramp. but im note sure if the truck tail gate would be able to take the load of the ramp....but again people pull bikes up a ramp sitting on the tailgate..... sometimes you just need someone else with the same mindset! haha. thanks man. i just started the laser cleaning service business out here in Dubai. am currently paying a lot to get it loaded to a pickup with a forklift and then plugging it in customer's main breaker. so thinking about just buying a generator to take on jobs at remote locations.
I m mounting a HF house like this in my truck bed and bought a winch to raise/lower load. I can't tell from the video where dis you mount the winch and what kind of pulley did you weld to the end of the hoist? Please, any help you or anyone else can help me out.
Do you happen to have links to the parts you added or a parts list. I found the winch and a mounting plate for the winch. Just need to get the other stuff. I suppose a trip to tractor supply would fix that issue lol
I didn't use the mounting plate. I just bolted the winch directly to the crane arm. And the pulley at the end I did find at tractor supply. The electrical plug can be found if you search for a trolling motor plug
