Do you run with a hydration vest and what are your tips? 👇
@robinmanhaeve9671
@robinmanhaeve9671 2 года назад
I find that having all of your water in the front or in the back of the vest is not ideal. I try to distribute it: one flask in the front of the vest, one in the back compartment, and swap it out half way.

I do not run with hydration vests or bottles, etc. I'm always close to home, or other water source.

i have used a hydro vest with a bladder for every run since 2017 after reading some research about how the imbalance of carrying a water bottle can affect you in later life. At the moment i just carry a bladder for my shorter runs, but long runs i also carry waterproofs, first aid kit, map, compass plus socks and another top so as to get used to the extra weight for my ultra in august.

Athletes need at least 500ml per hour when they are training, you are just dehydrating yourself, I was doing the same thing many years. Keep a small bottle with you, your body and brain will thank you. @@savagepro9060

I watched several videos about running vest’s. What sets you apart is that you talk about Features and what you carry and notbrands that you recommend. Excellent video.

I used to run with a belt for my long runs, but it became kind of very uncomfortable, so I switched to vests. Also, there is more room in a vest than in a belt. In the pockets of a vest I can carry gels, phone, keys, money/cards, etc. and I can also carry a rain jacket or other accessories in the back. I chose bottles (flasks) vs bladders. The most important reason for this choice is that bladders are a huge pain to clean. In addition, as the video indicates, it's easier to know how much more liquid you have with bottles than with bladders that are hidden away on your back. Great video. Thanks!

If you are using a bladder hydration system...and you are in a hot climate... INSULATED TUBING is essential. Otherwise you get boiling water for the first sip each time 🤣

Great video on a great channel (as usual). Here is one more point to consider: if you are going to run a long ultra marathon, you will definitely need to put some required gear in the back of the running vest. In this case, using a water blade, which is also located in the back, is very inconvenient and the only option is to have water flasks on the front side. This will also make the weight of the running vest with all the gear, water and food more balanced between your front and back.

Enjoy seeing the options. Thank you. I use an Osprey Duro 6, wonderful because Osprey is a dedicated backpack maker. Tip: If using a bladder and struggling with cleaning it (blowing it out, putting a fan on its, brushing it, etc), the easy tip is to simply fill it with water after your workout and store it back in the fridge. No molding! Been a while and want fresh water for tomorrow's run, the night before simply drain it out, add fresh water, back in the fridge. 💧

Thanks Heather very helpful . Only looking to do shortish runs on Dartmoor but when out on the hills in inclement weather reckon I need 10 litres of space for kit.

Thanks! Very helpful for long runs. Hope you can revisit Hydration Pack for the biking portion in a Triathlon such as a Full IM or Half IM. Hydration Packs are not as common in these races but an option and I am curious what the considerations might be.

Im looking for one of these right now. Do you use a women’s specific one? The problem I’m having is that shops here are limited so it’s a case of ordering online and I don’t know how to chose for fit being female but tall (if that’s relevant). I used a flip belt for my (first ever) half marathon (yay) at the w.e. and found a massive burn/rash on my tummy afterwards so want to use a backpack/vest next time which is full marathon so would want to carry water. Hmm. Love these videos. Don’t know how I’d start choosing anything without them!

Check out Harrier vests, designed by a woman in the UK. I have one, although I am male, but if you have any questions you can speak directly to the person who designed them.

Hey folks, great video! I was a marathon runner for ~6 years but took 2 years off due to life. Slacked on my exercise entirely (I was completely out of shape and a couch potato before the stint of running though I am not overweight) and am now trying to get back in (painful slog as I can barely run a mile at my old marathon pace now). I remember back when I did run, I used to have a belt with 4 bottles because I didn't like the feeling of something on my back. However, I also remember that I would usually bonk at around miles 16-20 (gels and liquid stop working, would just get really hungry) depending on the race and then be forced to walk most of the last 10k or so. My finishes were usually around the 4.5-5 hr mark to give you an idea of when the bonk hits time-wise. So my questions are really: 1) What would you recommend I bring on a race to avoid this? 2) Is there a better hydration solution for me than the belt (which I liked wearing and didn't notice on me when running) that might avoid the "feeling a lot of weight on my back" problem? 3) Any advice on how to overcome the feeling of failure trying to get back up to my old running? Been trying to start with interval training on my HIIT machine to start up a base but perhaps there's a better way. Thanks!

These bloody things become quite irritating while running uphills and downhills. Is there something which can remain firmly stuck to the body and do not ocillate as you run
