what did the carpet look like after all those holes drilled in it?

That’s the thing, Dave. The screws go right in the weave of the carpet. I lift the carpet up and all the screws are beneath the surface of the wood. Great question (was wondering the same thing myself). Thanks so much for watching!

Drilling I screw though the carpet. Won’t there be sharp edges sticking out in the carpet now?

I believe the screws snap below the subfloor.

Great question, Edward. The system has the weak part of the break-away screw just below the surface. The screw’s threads hold the subfloor to the joist but it is just below the surface.

@@FieldGuidetoDIY Gotcha, that makes sense. The carpet isn't hard enough to break the screw head, so it will probably wind up breaking right below whatever padding is in the carpet. This is a great application of a metal with poor sheer strength and great tensile strength.

@SmallSpoonBrigade True. You really can’t provide too much downward pressure while driving the screw. They bend really easy as they are designed to break off when sunk.

@@FieldGuidetoDIY They probably could hae also designed it so that the top torques off once it hits the proper amount of the screw in place, but that would be a much less reliable method and probably subject to really annoying, and dangerous, failures.
