Only 2 teams left in the series, the Warriors and Wizards. BOTH of those teams will be included in the upcoming compilation video, and if you're looking for only them, there will be timestamps in the pinned comment. Would the Blazers have a chance at making the West playoffs??
Portland is so cursed. Walton, Bowie, Oden, Roy, all the off court stuff in "Jailblazers" era. I smelled the chron through the TV when I saw Sheed, Damon, and Bonzi
and if they traded the 2nd overall pick in 84 and Clyde for Ralph Sampson they’d be even more cursed considering Sampson’s injury history and how great Clyde and MJ would be
Love the list. Only thing I might change is I probably woulda put Jerome Kersey in over Zach Randolph. I think Kersey would be more of a glue guy for the team.
I'm kind of shocked you didn't include Jerome Kersey, a great player who could play the 2 through 4 and was super important in those early 90's runs for the Blazers.
Great video. Like you, this team doesn't amaze me, but they're not bad. I like the shooting that this team brings and I agree that they have a solid frontcourt. I'd say they're more in the middle of the pack out of all the teams in this series. I saw that you recently posted a video with 3 hours of NBA history :). I've been busy, but I look forward to it :). Have a great day :).
I would have put Roy in the starting five, he's great alongside Lillard and Drexler too! But as a leader of the 2nd unit, he's going to shine for sure. Great work as usual!
Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Rick Barry, Draymond Green, Wilt Chamberlain 6th Man: Kevin Durant Rest of Bench: Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, Nate Thurmond, Tim Hardaway, Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, and Andre Iguodala
@@yezzir8929 I am a born and raised Blazers fan in Portland. My second favorite team when I was young was the run TMC Warriors. *SIGH! SO GOOD TIM HARDAWAY, MITCH RICHMOND, CHRIS MULLIN*
Having watched all of this series it stunning as a Blazer fan, how outside of Pippen, every single player on that list we drafted (Lucas ABA merger). Blazers don’t get FA and it struggles in exercises like because of that. Regardless, great list. Sad to see Kersey not make it. Would have picked him over Zeebo. His hustle and lunch pail attitude benefits any team. 🍻🍻🍻
There's that one team in the 4 major sports leagues that isn't the most cursed, but is still quite snake bitten ever since their breakout decades ago. The Flyers losing a Stanley Cup Final at least once every decade after 1975, including one to a team with one of the worst scandals in recent memory, the Dolphins wasting one of the best quarterbacks to ever grace the NFL and then becoming mostly irrelevant after that, and then there's the Portland Trail Blazers. Injuries, terrible draft picks, being second rate, choking in big game moments. No matter what it is, since 1978, there's always something holding this franchise back from being one of the greatest in sports history. Shout out to fans like Cosgrove for sticking through this. On paper, this roster looks great (besides SF, but they desperately need perimeter defense, so Cliff Robinson being a starter isn't bad whatsoever), but they will find a way to disappoint their expectations. And to be honest, I think Denver will prevent this team from reaching the playoffs sadly in the final play in game. Let's see if I'm proven wrong though, because I don't got much else bad to say about this team. See you for the final video with the Warriors and Wizards.
Walton had such a profound effect on any team he played on when healthy that he was part of these remarkable winning streaks (88-0 at UCLA); 44-0 at home over 2 seasons with the Portland Trailblazers (1976-1977, including the playoffs); 50-1 with the 85-86 Celtics (at home, including the playoffs).
Hey Jonny, I've enjoyed this series. Since you're doing this on 2k, I want you to use specific sliders for cpu because 2k jumpers for the 90 and before players are terrible.
that one-handed clip by Clyde on Mj was epic. The only difference between the 2 is the super alpha a-hole mentality but that alone made their gap wider..
If there's a couple of bigs that I can envision playing together it's Bill and Savis. Imagine Dame, Glide, Cliffy, Big Red, and Savis out on the court together. That would be a fine team to watch. At bench can provide too, in a heart beat. I would have included Smithy in the last 3 slots, just to keep this a bit more open.
Was not Kiki Vandeweghe like giga boss in his Denver/Portland days? XD i belive he was like 25++ scorer, who was popping off times and times for 50 pts games (in the 80s!!!!) and was a multiple time all star? I would deffo take Him over 35y old Pip,
From a bucket getting standpoint, sure. I think it kinda just depends on what you’re looking for at that point. Kiki was not a great defensive player, and this roster has TONS of offense, so that’s why I opted for Pip, but I’ve got no problems with someone taking Kiki
Really wanted to see Buck Williams in here, he was the Blazers's 'Horace Grant'. Jersome Kersey could have been in there aswell. Overall, very solid team, mainly if we can assure the players won't get injured lol.
Lowkey, i can see Mike Dunleavy Sr coaching this team with that jail blazer mentality. For some reason i always think of Wesley Matthews and Batum as the perfect blazer role player, but there's a lot of talent here.
Dame, BRoy, Clyde, LMA and Scottie on the floor as a small ball lineup would be terrifying. Good defensive squad with Cliffy, Porter, Sheed, Scottie and either Walton or Sabas. I like their chances in the west. Even without Duckworth, Buck Williams, Steve Smith, Mighty Mouse, Jerome Kersey, Drazen, Strickland or Blazers legends Marcus Camby and Joel Przybilla. Good squad!
Personally, while Damian Lillard is the biggest name and arguably second best player in Blazers history (Drexler) I would put him on the second team here. Terry Porter was a better play maker, defender and capable of being a more efficient perimeter shooter (despite the era he played in). Porter Shot .385 over his Blazer career (Dame - .372) Shot a Blazer career high of .415 (which he reached or surpassed three more times with the Spurs), and had 2x season shooting over .400 with the Blazers (6 total over his career) (Dames blazer best is .401, that season also represent the only occasion he surpassed .400 in his career to this point). To add to this - the reason why LMA was moved was because of the dynamic between the two - Porter would help there too.
Ur not takin into account being defenses main focus every game would n being the best player means u need to take more n tougher shots, if u put dame in terry pos he woulda had a higher 3pt% n if terry was in dame pos he would have lower 3pt% but overall dame is a better shooter
@@Is0keem - Dame still takes a lot of bad shots, regardless of the defence being great, good, or otherwise. Even if Dames rate improved being second fiddle to Drexler in this hypothetical - I would still want Porter for his superior playmaking and defense.
@@Is0keem I don’t know if is because his long range or late game makes make the highlights and all his terrible shots don’t or something else - but we really need to stop calling this guy an elite 3pt shooter - he has never ranked in the top 20. His .401 (career best was 26th, the next year for example he was 70th in the league). Porter was a capable 3pt shooter - fact, further to earlier comment he also has 8 seasons in the top 20 3fg%. As much as he wasn’t regarded as the primary scoring option, the Blazer teams that he was a part of were much more balanced. With Walton, Aldridge, Robinson and Drexler he would likely be lower in the pecking order than he actually was. Bring him in to todays game I’m sure it would be an area of the game he and many others from earlier era’s would develop. Yes, Lillard has always asserted himself as the primary scorer, and if he fell down the ranks it might become a little easier, but reality is he would assert himself on this team too (regardless of Drexler) given he’s the primary ball handler so I doubt he’d face less defensive pressure or greatly improve his shot selection.
After thinking about it, I would make Lucas the second-unit power forward, and I would have both Mychal Thompson and Kevin Duckworth as rotational players along with McCollom, because (1) both Walton and Sabonis were so injury prone, and (2) the Blazers would need all the help they could get at center in order to get past the Lakers and the Rockets in the West. Plus Thompson could also play power forward. I would therefore not have Wallace, who could be volatile and was a technical foul magnet, especially during his time in Portland, and I would have to not have Randolph, whom I would want, but the roster only has 13 players.
@@planet3vitaminpacks I think everyone was a little soft against the Lakers in 1991. The Blazers were supposed to blow the Lakers away in that series but Magic Johnson controlled that whole series. I thought Sam Perkins was instrumental in that Lakers win. James Worthy also injured his ankle in this series which depleted the Lakers against the Bulls.
Seeing Sheed make this team, being called a "solid stretch 4," and "dangerous from 30 feet out," and being left off my Pistons--in a video that says they're in desperate need of 3-point shooting--hurts a little...
I've got Kersey over Uncle Cliff at the 3 - Cliff's versatility is probably better coming off the bench. And I would probably start Sheed's defense over Aldridge's scoring at the 4 - then bring Aldridge in if we need to get some quick points. Otherwise I'm pretty much in agreement with this list. No idea why you snubbed Jerome Kersey though. 😂
I'm surprised he didn't put Carmelo Anthony as the starting SF. (A joke because he put Butler on the Wolves and KD on the suns) Also can't believe Ricky Rubio isn't on the all time Timberwolves team.
Oh goodness, Randolph in addition to Lucas, Sheed AND Aldridge?! That's an emotionally disturbed PF rotation if I've ever seen one. I'd ditch one of Randolph/Sheed and add Jerome Kersey.
This wasn't the bulls pippen that had Jordan pushing him. Thus was a 13 pog pippen who was only in his 10th year but had fallen off dramatically. Cliff Robinson was a much better choice.
Have to disagree with Robinson at the 3. I loved that early 90s team but he doesnt belong in that starting 5 , hell he didnt even start when he was in his prime. I'd much rather you placed Drexler in the 3 spot (which he played a heap of) and put prime Brandon Roy at the 2. You shifted guys in some of the bigger teams (eg. LA) , i think its warranted here.
I would have had Mo Lucas as the backup 5. Sabonis is a Walton clone, play wise. At his peak, may have been better, but at portland had lost his athleticism. Keep him as a deep reserve and walton insurance though. I would have found a spot for Strickland. Though lillard and porter are better, once again, both play similar. Neither is the rocket paint touch threat rod was. Maybe at the expense of mccollum.
I don't see this Blazers team making the playoffs or play in tournament in the Ultimate Team West. Overall this roster is decent but meh compared to other teams in this series. They also have too many injury prone guys like Walton, Sabonis, and Roy. That stating backcourt is fantastic though. I still put the Lakers 1st in the ultimate team west, the Rockets ahead of the Spurs in the 2-3-4 order while awaiting the Warriors to see if they go above, below, or between the Rockets and Spurs. Mavericks, Kings, Suns, and Thunder go 5-8. I see the Grizzlies as clearly last in the Ultimate Team west. Any of the remaining six could make the 9-10 if things broke their way in a year but I'll go with the Nuggets and Jazz to be 9-10. Drexler is extremely underrated is the 5th best shooting guard of all time behind only Jordan, Bryant, West, and Wade.
Really solid veteran team. Some real pro’s pros here. But there is a notable lack of leadership. I mean top-notch leadership. Who keeps Damon, Sheed, and Bill in line? Not Clyde. Not Pippen. Maybe Porter? Maybe Lucas? Lack of leadership is what keeps this team from being a real threat.
Gerald Wallace should have been on for sure. This team is straight up allergic to small forwards. You got Cliff Robinson playing a SF when he was a PF. Honestly, this roster is the worst all time roster in the NBA. Even the T Wolves have a better line up. Portland needs to hire a gm and replace their entire scouting department. They get one draft pick right per decade.
Bill Walton is the greatest what if player. yes, greater than Magic Johnson, Len Bias, Grant Hill, Arvydas Sabonis, Penny Hardaway, Derrick Rose, and Brandon Roy. he was just that good. he could’ve been a top 5 player.
You need to go rewatch the 2000 NBA Finals! You really think LaMarcus Aldridge can hang with a prime RASHEED WALLACE!? You left Sheed off the All-Detroit Piston Team. Now, I can officially label you as a Rasheed Wallace hater. In his prime, Sheed was every bit as good as KG, Duncan, Elton Brand, and Webber.
Portland Trailblazers Bill Walton, Chose the Glide, Dame Time, Sheed, BRoy, LA, Sabnis, Lucas, Young ZBo, Terry Porter, and Clifford Robinson for defense, Scottie Pippen not in his prime still a defensive stopper. No Kobe Stopper though shame. Great team sucks most won outside Portland besides Bill Walton and Lucas.
