We deeply sympathize with the hardships experienced by the people of Puerto Rico, as we Chinese have also endured similar historical tragedies and suffered from the brutalities of Japanese aggressors. Given the opportunity, I will definitely visit Vieques. LOVE FROM CHINA🇨🇳
My heart will always be in vieques. Maria did me a number. I’ve been all over that island. I noticed you didn’t touch on secret beach. Many more beautiful beaches that only locals know. I lived there for sometime and im so homesick. Great video
I’m glad that my video helped you reconnect to Vieques. I hope you’ll be able to visit the island again soon. 🙏🏼 Definitely left out a couple of places that we didn’t have time to visit and things to do. Hopefully we get to go back soon because we fell in love with it as well. Thanks for commenting and for watching my videos! ☺️🙏🏼🇵🇷
I am planning a trip to PR and this has been the most informative video I’ve watched. I’m literally going to replicate your stay because absolutely loved your recommendations. Also, thank you for that giving us a quick history lesson it really helped me reevaluate how I want this trip to go and the activities I would like to incorporate. THANK YOU !
Hey Adriana!! Thank YOU for your amazing comment! Love seeing how my work helps so many people enjoy their visit to Puerto Rico to the fullest!! I’ve had other people say that they’ll replicate my videos and that blows my mind 😂🙌🏼 Had to add in some history in there. Knowing about the history about the country or place you’re visiting helps you be a more responsable traveler, plus, makes your visit even better! Thank you again! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey Ivan! Thank you for your comment! Vieque’s history definitely took a dark turn that the people who live there still battle with. I definitely have a lot of respect for them. I’m glad my video helped you learn about it and appreciate Vieques. 🙏🏼🇵🇷
I absolutely love your videos! My family and I have so many good idea from you now when we visit viegues. Thanks so much for this extremely good and detailed information. ❤🇵🇷
Oh wow!! Thank you so much for that! I hope you have a great time in Vieques!! I’ve never been to Cancun but my perception is that it’s more of a party and resort vacation destination. Vieques is nothing like that, so keep that in mind when choosing where to go based on the intent of your vacation plans. If you want something more relaxing, then Vieques should satisfy those needs! If you end up going to Vieques, I hope you have a fantastic time! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷 and if you go to Cancún as well haha
Absolutely flabbergasted from the atrocities committed by the US Navy in Vieques. So much of US history is either not taught, or gaslit to the public. Thank you for including this in your video and informing people.
Hey James!! Thank you for being interested in that part of the video! There are other videos about that subject on RU-vid by AJ+ and others id you’re interested. I’ll be uploading another travel guide soon where I talk a bit more about the US and PR relationship in the past.
Bro a little overboard on atrocities Jesus, get over your self. Based on your name your not even Puerto Rican, if you are my bad. I'm from San Turce and the only people that mad a big deal was some local ricans and white people. Seriously the word atrocities is ridiculous.
I was just there last week and it looks like hurricane zMaria hit last year. Barely anything has been fixed as many left years ago. Don't even see any dolphins who probably know about all the uxo underwater. We still had an amazing time and loved Caracas beach but it was sad seeing how neglected the island is and having to tell kids to be careful because closes hospital is in san juan.
Loved watching your videos in preparation for my trip to PR! They have all been very instructive and I’ve learned a lot. My fiancé and I will be arriving in PR tomorrow. Can’t understate how much we appreciate you making videos like this!
Thank you so much, Rob! If it was for me I would visit it multiple times a year! Haha but I gotta explore other spots around the island. 😄🙌🏼🏝 We’ll be back eventually for sure!
Hey Brick !!!! You Rock! Thanks for the great videos my friend. I'll be returning to the Island on March 2023... after many decades being away from the Island where I grew up. Aguadilla will be my home base! Your PRO presentation is admirable. Gracias Hermano!
Hey Felix!! Thank you so much!! Glad to have you back on the island! Hope you’re able to enjoy it to the fullest after so much time away. Appreciate your support a lot! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey Stephan! Thank you for commenting! I felt it would be irresponsable to promote visiting vieques without highlighting the struggles they still face and their tumultuous history. Viequenses are without a doubt very strong people. 💪🏼🇵🇷
Hey Giselle! Thank you for your comment! I definitely have a lot of appreciation and respect for Vieques and the people that live there. Such a wonderful place! 🇵🇷😄
Very well done. Very educational with a lot of useful information. While Vieques has a lot to explore, to me the best part is the bio-bay. It's an experience that's freaky, magical, memorable, and just plain cool. I advise to check the moon-phase, and choose the darkest time possible to maximize your experience. It always amazes me to say or to hear that there are 5 bio-bays in the world, and 3 of them are in PR .... including the best and brightest. Pretty amazing.
Yes! Totally agree! It’s hard to fully grasp what it feels to be in the bio bay. You have to be there to truly understand what it feels to have “shooting stars” lighting up your kayak. I loved to see fish lighting up in the water when they swam around! I would go back in a heartbeat.
was just in vieques for rums of puerto rico! such a beautiful place! had a great time and driving golf carts is fun lol - glad to see you post a video for vieques - lol you exfoliated with the black sand - smart, didn't think to do that
Vieques is something else! Loved it all! I saw a couple of people having a good time in golf carta for sure 😂 haha I couldn’t miss the opportunity to play around with that sand. It was my favorite beach of the whole trip haha
My mom's side of the family is from there. Went there a lot of summers. Some of the best memories with my cousins out there! Family in Monte Santo , Martino , Florida. Los Perez. Lol
Hey Miguel!! Wow, glad you were able to visit Vieques a couple of times! No doubt you had a great time! Thank you for leaving a comment! Hope you get to go back soon! 😄🇵🇷🙌🏼
Ella solo habla Ingles so she enjoys it very much . God bless !
Hey Colin! I was told that Punta Arenas is a fantastic place to go snorkeling. I also saw people snorkeling at the end of El Rompeolas. There are islets located near the coastline that apparently has great snorkeling, but I wouldn’t do that if you’re not an experienced snorkeler/swimmer since it consists of swimming around 10-15 min to get to these islets. Hope that helps!
Hey Ann! So glad you think so! 🙌🏼🙏🏼 Both will work well, but you’ll take double the time to get to places with a golf cart. Also you wont be able to leave things in the golf cart while you go to the beach (if you leave things in a car, they shouldn’t be visible). But if you’re traveling light and don’t mind taking longer to get to places, a golf cart is a great option! Many people use them to get around. Just so you have an idea, in a car you take about 15 minutes from the ferry port in Isabel Segunda to Esperanza, and in a golf cart you’ll take 30 minutes. Hope that helps! 🙌🏼🇵🇷
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This was sooo informative. I also appreciate that you include the not so great aspects of its history. 🙌🏻 People need to know this. Btw: I’m guessing it’s called mosquito bay for a reason 😖
Thank you so much for your comment! I’m glad you found it helpful! Yes, I felt obligated to cover Vieques’ history because everyone that visits should be informed about the horrifying truth and injustice that the people of Vieques lived for many years. They deserve every once of respect for everything they endured. Thank you for appreciating that! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 and haha about Mosquito Bay, honestly when we went at night we didn’t have any problems with mosquitos or mimes/majes (small mosquito like insects). Generally these insects get very annoying near the beach when the sun is setting. Before or after that you wont have a problem, generally. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Another awesome video! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾I've noticed that you mention all your filming gear on the video description but the drone you are using for your aerial shoots! 🤔😁 Happy New Year from Ponce, Puerto Rico 🌴 🏊♀️ 🍺 🎅🏾 🇵🇷 Like#20
Hola Juana! Gracias a ti!! 🙏🏼☺️🇵🇷
I was born here just going to Vieques is fun. We go there to see my grandpa and since my dad grew up here almost everyone knows him! The people are so nice. My dad knows everything here because not much has changed.
Thank you so much for that story!! Vieques is definitely a wonderful place! Glad you’re still able to visit every once in a while. Must be great for your father to see familiar faces 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hi, my mother was born there I've never been but I have a grandfather and aunt still on the island is like to find them. I'm going next week trying to plan a trip to the island.
Great video! We will be traveling this July and are looking for a place to stay. Was told Humacao is nice for a family of four generations. What are your thoughts? I don’t see any videos about Humacao and I’m a bit worried we may not be looking in a safe place. Thank you and thank you for all of your videos and advice.
Hey! If you’re visiting Humacao you’ll likely be staying and visiting Palmas del Mar which is a huge gated community where people live and have their vacations homes. I’ve visited few times for short periods so I don’t have many details, but I know that it’s kind of a bubble. You’ll for sure be safe there, but if you want to actually experience PR, you’ll have to get out of there. Also, keep in mind it’s an hour drive from Old San Juan, though it’s closer to the nice beaches in Fajardo/Luquillo and El Yunque in Rio Grande. Hope that helps a bit!
That’s great! Hopefully it’s not $20 per day because that’s pretty darn expensive 😅 Regardless, I hope you have a great time visiting Vieques! 😄🙌🏼🙏🏼🇵🇷🏝️
Hi Brik Loving your videos. Can you do a detail video on visiting Mona island please.pls There’s not a good video on steps to take to visit, what you can do n see on the island. Can you stay overnight?, etc
Hey Judy! Thank you so much!! As far as I know, making a trip to Mona would require a lot of coordination because it is not a very frequented destination. It’s about a 4 hour boat ride from the main island and there are no hotels. If you’re interested to visit, try to find a dedicated and experienced tour operator that can submit the permits for your trip, coordinate transportation, and most importantly, ensure that you are safe during your visit there. Hopefully at some point I’ll have the opportunity to visit Mona and have first hand experience. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey Lian! Glad you loved my video and it helped you out! I think Maritza Car Rental might have golf karts. There are several companies that rent them. Search online for “Vieques golf kart rental”. I don’t have the full info because I wanted to rent a car from the beginning so didn’t look into golf karts. Sorry I can’t give you a straightforward answer but I hope you find one and have a great time in Vieques! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
You are objective and that’s what counts. Question I was informed that the cost to leave the rental car at Ceiba pier is $20.00 per day. Please confirm. Thanks
I try my best. 😄 So, when I went the cost was $7.80 per day and $23.40 for 3 days. That was two years ago and I doubt it would have risen so much since then. Maybe they gave you the 3 day price. I would maybe call the ferry terminal or company running the ferry called Hornblower. Hope that helps a bit! 🙏🏼
Hey Ron! No problem! Thank you for your comment! We felt pretty safe to be honest, but just remember to never leave backpacks or valuable stuff visible inside of a car while you leave it parked. Apart from that, you shouldn’t have any problem. I rarely saw any police. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey Kevin!! Thank you!! Appreciate the comment! You could rent a golf cart, which are slow but definitely works and are very popular for tourist to use. There are also taxis that can take you around. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Agreed. The people who live there face many challenges, including cost of living. Hoping it gets easier for everyone somehow, because it’s such a special place. Thanks again for commenting! 🙏🏼
Hey Carlos! It might be because of the season or just because of inflation. I used Jak Watersports, but if you’re there you can look around in Esperanza which is where most of the kayak tour companies are located so you can shop around. Hope that helps! 🙏🏼😄🇵🇷
Hey Zach! A golf cart is a good option if you don’t mind taking double the time to get to places. If you’re staying three days it might be a good option since you’ll have more time than usual to do things. Golf carts are pretty popular there. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Thanks Brik !! I have 1 Day ,could you please help me in making choice between CAMUY CAVES, Cueva del Indio, Adjuntas VS Vieques VS Culebra. FYI I am travelling with toddler
Hey Neeraj! Do you mean you just have one day in PR or one day of your whole trip that you’re not sure what to do? Do you have a car? Where (which municipality) will you be staying on that day? I might discard cueva del indio if you’re visiting with toddlers since it can be dangerous if you don’t have a close eye on them. Vieques and culebra are whole day trips so you’d need to wake up really early and probably take the last ferry back to the main island. The last I heard is that the Camuy Caves were temporarily closed (don’t remember why) but they were gonna open soon. Adjuntas is fantastic! You could visit El Mango (if it isn’t raining), eat at Re-Creos, maybe even relax at the plaza at night.
I am so sorry to hear about everything the people in Vieques had to endure. My heart goes out to them. When visiting the island if I plan to spend a day there, do you recommend that I do a car rental? If so, are there any agencies you recommend on the island? Do you happen to have a ball park for the pricing as well?
We pay $500 for a week using a utv style golf cart that is gas powered. In my position it is the best way to get around while going a decent speed. ALWAYS allow the locals to pass you since you go slower. We get from one end of the island to the other in less then 20 mins. Please visit you won’t regret it
Hey! Thank you for your thoughts. The people of Vieques have definitely gone through a lot so the more people understand and respect them, the better. As far as transportation, it really depends on what you’re looking for. Golf carts are slower, you cant store items inside the car, but are cheaper. Cars are more expensive but you’ll be able to get from point a to b quicker and thus maximizing your time there. The company we used is in the video and also at the end I provided a cost breakdown of the whole trip. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Such a very informative video. Especially the history section. I will be teaching my children. Is there an area you prefer to stay in while visiting? It seems either Esperanza or Isabel. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Lesley! Glad you liked the video! Thank you for spreading that history to more people. Definitely a moment in time that was very difficult for the people of Vieques. Yes, either Isabel II or Esperanza. I feel like Isabel II is geared more towards locals vs Esperanza has more tourists, so that might sway your decision. Hope it helps and you enjoy your visit! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hello, 1) As a traveler, can I rent a car in San Juan and bring it to Vieques?? 2) We are traveling in a week but it seems like ALL the cars are out on the days we want to travel. Are there any alternatives you could suggest us? 3) Would using Publico put a lot of restriction on where we can travel Thank you so much
Hey! 1) You cannot. Rental car company insurance won’t cover that. Just to make sure, ask the company you’re renting from, but it will probably be a no. 2) Golf karts or taxis are available. 3) You’d have to ask the drivers directly if they offer transportation to the beaches and places you’d like to visit. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey!! Thank you so much!!! An educated traveler is a responsible traveler. I couldn’t make a video about Vieques without including that. It’ such an important part in the island-municipality’s history that still affects them to this day.
Great video, very informative! I was planning to rent a car from SUJ to Vieques. However since I cannot bring my car to the island, how would you recommend the best way to get to Vieques from SJU? Is Uber available in PR? Thanks!
Hey!! It is possible to take an Uber from San Juan to the ferry terminal in Ceiba but I think it’s going to be very expensive. One thing to also keep in mind is that you won’t be able to take an Uber back from Ceiba to San Juan because Uber doesn’t cover that area of the island. You’d have to talk to your uber driver to get his or her phone number and coordinate with them. You might want to consider a taxi, though I’m not sure how expensive they are compared to Uber to get to Ceiba. Or, if you’re staying at a hotel, talk to a concierge that might be able to coordinate with a transportation operator that takes groups to that area, so it might be less expensive. Hope that helps you guys! 🙏🏼🇵🇷
That depends. I would suggest keeping an eye on the ferry’s website to see their schedules. During February it seems the passenger only ferry’s last departure from Ceiba to Vieques is at 7:30PM, but that might change every month. Here’s the website: www.puertoricoferry.com/en/routes-schedules/ceiba-vieques/ Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Thank you so much! So many great things to do at Vieques, it was hard to boil it down to a few. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back soon to make a part 2 of this video. 🙏🏼🙌🏼😄🇵🇷
Hey!! Thank you for leaving a comment and for the support! Happy to see people appreciate it and find it helpful! Hope you have a great trip whenever you visit! 😄🙏🏼🇵🇷
Espero no ofender.
Hola!
You'll be fine. It's really not that bad, just don't get into fights with strangers. And avoid the apartment complexes as most of them are government housing.. aka the ghetto. But they're spread across the island so you're bound to run into them, just make sure your air bnb isn't too close to one. Other than that, it's nothing like parts of south America. Just treat it like any big city in the US. You don't want to be roaming down a dark ally in Chicago at 2 am either.
Thank you brik, very informative video. Wonder if you know what the cost of golf cart for day and if your limited on where you can go? Thanks very much.we are going in march.
Hey Angel! I’m not quite sure how much it would cost to tent a golf cart, honestly. I believe you can take them wherever the terrain permits you. I saw people in golf carts all the way in La Chiva which had a gravel road leading to it. Ask whoever you decide to rent. Thank you for the kind words! 😄🙏🏼🇵🇷
Thank you so much, Lesko! That would be amazing! We wanted to stay for another day or two. There were some things we didn’t get to see. Hopefully we get to go back. 😄🇵🇷🙌🏼
Agreed! It is a bit of a journey to get there, but it’s definitely worth it! Great to hear that you’ve had the chance to visit several times! Thank you for your comment! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey!! I would say you can’t since the area where you get into the water to see the bio bay is far away so walking there at night without knowing the way well will surely get you lost. Now, maybe you could find someone that drives you to this area to see the bio pay from the shore where the kayaks start. You’ll definitely be able to see it there, BUT you won’t appreciate the full brightness of the bioluminescence from the shore than from the middle of the bay on the kayak. If that’s ok with you, then definitely contact a tour provider to see if they have rates for not kayaking. Hope that helps! 😄🙏🏼🇵🇷
Hi, I will be visiting Vieques soon but I have some doubts about camping and campgrounds. Do you have an email that I can reach you out? Appreciate your video and the valuable information in it. Te felicito!
Hola Elynes! I do! You can write me at brikstravelguides@gmail.com or send me a DM on Instagram at @brikstravelguides. I have a contact that might work for you if you’re looking for a campsite.
Hey! Thanks for commenting! I did it with Jak Watersports. They were all super friendly and informative. Highly recommend! If they’re full during your visit, there are many others to chose from that I’m sure would be great as well. Hope that helps! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Detailed well executed travel information and advice to visit Vieques, PR. Thanks for mentioning ferry accessible travel accommodation. Please include more information for wheelchair user accommodations in Vieques, Culebra, and Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 ❤
Hey Michelle! Thank you so much for your comment! Glad you liked the video and found it helpful! And thank you for the idea of including that into the guide. I’ll definitely keep it in mind for the next one! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Brik, some constructive criticism: put the cue cards closer to and behind the camera lens, so it does not look like you are looking up while reading. Otherwise, amazing video!
Hey An! Thank you for the feedback! That’s something that several people have pointed out to me and that I’ve wanted to fix. I found a teleprompter that I’ll purchase at some point next year to fix that problem. I just didn’t want to let that piece of equipment stop me from making these videos. At the end of the day the helpful content is there, just little things that need and will improve soon. Thank you again for the feedback! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Beautiful video well done wish you would’ve recorded and spoke more about the mysterious rocks that very weird !! Anyway thank you and keep doing move video
Hey Devious! Thank you for leaving a comment! Glad you liked my video of Vieques! The rocks of El Hombre de Puerto Ferro are very interesting! When you’re there you get a feeling that it might have been a sacred place for the people who were there so long ago. I bet is not as popular as the beaches in Vieques, but I would recommend stopping by for sure! It’s pretty accesible.
Great video! Quick question: did you book your bio bay tour in-person day of? We are looking online and it looks like all days we want to do a tour are booked. Do you think we could find a kayak tour in person in-person the day of? Thanks
Hey Benjamin! Not sure if you already went to Vieques but I would suggest doing it ahead of time, thought it wouldn’t hurt to walk around near Esperanza, where all the tours come out of, to check if they have any extra spaces available or maybe someone cancelled. Hope you get to do it! 🙏🏼😄🇵🇷
