Thanks for posting this adventure! Was adding this area (and an extra day) to my plans across Southern Utah in August (my usual Autumn getaway), and this greatly helped my understanding of what I'm getting myself into lol Folks like Josh make our venturing even more of a pleasure; I always find people are friendlier, more talkative and, in general, happier out on the trails, as we are sharing the best of Life and getting the best out of Life. Keep on truckin', kids!
Woo! Glad you’re going to explore this area! And it was great to run into Josh! We normally prefer to not see people on the trail, but we lucked out with him!
wo wo wo.. noooooo... i'm glad i watched this.. SO beautiful!! I cannot figure out how I could get rid of my claustrophobia to make it on my own. 😩. Maybe I could go PART way.. and then turn back quickly (and crying). I've done that before. o well.. I got to see the WHOLE thing thanks to you guys. Exhilarating!!
Wowsers!! What a hike!! We stopped at the same coffee shop as y’all a couple weeks ago. The area was beautiful!! Can’t wait to see what you do in Capitol Reef. I loved it there
@@AdventuresofAplusKpetroglyphs, the scenic drive then at the end took a dirt road that was absolutely beautiful did a little short walk at Petroglyphs Narrows and saw more petroglyphs. All the fruit trees it was just a neat area
As we mentioned in our previous slot canyon video, NEVER enter a slot canyon if there is rain in the forecast for the surrounding area. Another great video! You do a great job of finding wonderful things which have been off the beaten track. Great images of Highway 12 between Escalante and Boulder starting about 5:15. Great road and great scenery! Thanks for showing the Burr Trail--always wondered about it. The Hole in the Rock road was amazing to see--and real slow to drive. Wonderful views of the slot canyons!
I’m glad y’all think that was fun because OMG that looked scary!! all I was thinking about was that movie where that guy gets his hand stuck under that rock and is in a tight place for days. So brave!
Oh for sure! We would never do this hike if it was going to rain. We actually delayed it a day due to some light rain to be careful. It was such a fun experience!
Great videos. I am new to the channel and have been checking the Utah series. I follow RVertv who has a van like yours. Soon as I retire I am doing the van thing.
Heading to south Utah in June for 1st time. Love your videos. Thank you so much for the information and the time it took you to put everything together. Greatly appreciate it. Just not so sure I can fit through this last slot canyon.
Probably the best videos ive ever seen of these hikes! Peek-a-boo is one of my favorites ever. You guys MUST go back and do overnight in Coyote Gulch. Go down Crack-In-The-Wall for one of the best views ever and hike up multiple waterfalls to camp under Jacob Hamblin Arch.
Thanks so much Jake! And we hope to come back another time and rent a more suitable vehicle so we can explore more! We have always wanted to see that arch 😍
Thats an EPIC canyon hike. Great video! Worth doing more than once! Was there last year and LOVED it. Since your on the way to Capitol Reef... Consider hiking Ding and Dang Canyon about 3 hours away. It is within 1 mile of the trail head for Little Wild Horse Canyon. Ding and Dang is more adventurous than the more famous Little Wild Horse Canyon trail (in my opinion). On the way from Capitol Reel, stop in Hanksville, UT to eat at Dukes Slick Rock Grill for a great meal. Not sure if you do this, but when hiking canyons, consider bringing 1" nylon webbing (found on amazon). It is useful to have a strong hand line to assist getting down areas that are under 15 feet. Also good to lower backpacks. We used one at the entrance to Peek-A-Boo.
When around the peek a boo and spooky area, you should climb around Devil's Rock Garden, and 20 mile sand dunes, better if you go during Easter and see the kids rolling eggs down the sand dunes.
My boyfriend and I go to UT, and we envy y'all's adventures. We checked out the Escalante region for the first time this January, and we can't wait to go back and explore more. We love your videos!
This put a huge smile on my face and reminded me of how much I miss being outside 😪 glad you guys are having awesome adventures. Pretty sure the way you're pronouncing Escalante is correct 😂
@@AdventuresofAplusK As you note in the video, many locals pronounce it as though the final "e" wasn't there. Just discovered your channel and am really enjoying it! Keep making the great vids!
Wowee what amazing trails. My wife Karen and I were having burrito envy (we lived in NM for 15 years) but mostly me. Miss the green chili not found here in Portugal.
@@AdventuresofAplusK If you travel to Europe, you could experience withdrawal. When our friends visit from NM, we are requesting that they bring chili powders and some NM green chili seeds. Just about anything seems to grow here in Portugal.
Guessing that burrito is named after the world famous song pancho and lefty first written by townes van zandt and beautifully recreated by merle haggard and willie nelson!
WOW! Our minds are blown! It took us 50 mins to watch 30! Had to keep rewinding! “What did they just climb through?” Thank you for taking us somewhere I KNOW we will not be adventuring too!! Wow! You guys rock! Beautiful video!! Bravo guys! 😊~Cara
That place looks beautiful and I’ve never heard of it! I feel the same way about crowds when hiking. It just doesn’t give you the same feeling when there’s a lot of people! When we went to Yosemite there were some mornings we were heading to trailheads at 5:00 am 😊
I love, love, LOVE y'all's channel! I started watching just a few months ago and can't wait to see some of the places yall've been! You are so positive and fun and your videography skills are fantastic! Blessings to y'all in your travels!
This episode definitely got the heart rate up and nerves going. But super cool that you guys did it and we love being able to experience it through your lenses!
Waterfalls were superb, I've camped close by. Kiva coffee is stunning glad you stopped there, not only is coffee great but the setting. 👍🥰 I also follow Catherine Gregory on RU-vid. She is in Escalante also. Love both of your views of AMAZING Utah. Thanks for sharing. Well done.
My wife and I always enjoy your videos. We started watching as we were doing research for our upcoming vacation to South Dakota, Wyoming, etc. We appreciate your reviews, your lack of politics, wealth of information, and your usual witty comments and fun-loving nature. We were actually wondering what weather app you were using at the beginning of the video? Thanks for the videos, be well, and stay safe always!
Oh my gosh you guys! What a hike! Don't have my girlish body anymore so would NEVER be able to do that! I'm assuming that you didn't have to go back through to get back to your van! Beautiful rock formations! Thanks again!
That slot canyon was something else. The colors and shapes were so cool. It was was like you both were moving through a huge thing of batter and somebody kept twisting the spoon and moving up and down. Was so enjoyable watching you both figure out each narrow turn as it was upon u 😉
Those slot canyons were so cool and beautiful! That rock is so smooth and Mars looking! Glad you didn’t get stuck!😜 Thank you Josh for helping my two favorite adventurers! The burrito and tacos….🤤😋🤤😋
Josh also said his mom is like "why do you go do these adventurous things? why can't you just go to a nice beach resort?" hahaha Glad we had him to help us!
Y'all are inspiring. I might have done such clambering about when I was your age, perhaps, but sometimes....yikes, I can't imagine getting hurt somewhere in those slot canyons. Good job! I look forward to seeing Capitol Reef (on Monday?) From what I understand, it's an underrated gem, but often an afterthought.....and always fifth of the "Mighty Five", which is like coming in fifth in the, say, Most Beautiful Human contest.
It was sooo much fun! One of the best experiences here for sure! And we LOVE Capitol Reef, we have a long video coming Monday (you're right!) from a jam packed 24 hours there. Such a gorgeous park!
Nice vlog! Hell’s backbone grill in Boulder is also a great place to eat. That rope on the down climb in Spooky must have been left by another person. It’s often not there. For others who may attempt this it’s a good idea to be prepared for the assistance of a rope to not be there. Stemming or chimneying can be effective without a rope.
Loved and loved this video adventure! Mainly because that is one of my favorite areas. Zion and Bryce are great but when we’re in that area (and Capitol Reef) it feels magical. Lower Calf Creek is one of my favorite hikes and the slot canyons ❤️❤️. However, we did not do peek a boo; we should get back there and do it. We did not feel comfortable with getting up into it and then to get back out. We were even younger then! But we’re more experienced now. 👍. And I’ve also enjoyed the coffee at the Kiva! Is that not a unique place! And I love your comment about the Burr Trail: driving down a giant red hallway; so appropriate! Can’t wait to see what you do at Capitol Reef. 👌
Hi Debra! So happy you enjoyed this adventure and have gotten to experience some of it yourself! It's truly a special area and we loved it (and Capitol Reef) SO much! Can't wait to share what we did there....we crammed in a TON into a short amount of time and had a blast!
Wow oh wow, that was tight! Sorry it’s so late…I’m guessing you’re asleep and Kona is snoring by now…anyhow what an awesome adventure this was! You did look like you were having the time of your lives though! Hope you have an amazing weekend!
Hello from Seattle ( former San Antonian )! Been following you guys for a while now and absolutely loved this experience you guys shared with us! Had me laughing with anxiety 🤣! Thanks again! 😊
I watched a lot of videos of peek-a-boo and spooky before a family trip in april. After hiking it myself and now seeing your video, I think your video was the best! You really caught the beauty and feel, though nothing compared to hiking it in person of course.
The colors of the rocks behind the waterfall are amazing! Such a beautiful scene. Very nice camerawork and editing. The different angles, some slow motion, etc really did a nice job presenting the scene. Adam's breakfast burrito looked fantastic... I too consider myself a breakfast burrito connoisseur so we'll have to compare notes, lol. The Burr trail looked awesome! The drone footage is so helpful for telling the story! There;s no way I could have stopped... we'll have to drive the whole thing! Hole in the Rock overnight camp looked cool! And the slot canyon hike was killer, despite a couple wong turns. Thats what makes it an adventure! And Peek a boo was really neat as well! The arches in the slot were amazing! Katy would NOT like that hike.... gonna have to go solo I'm afraid! But it looks awesome to me!
Just got back from Utah on Saturday next time we go we’re spending two weeks because all we got to see with Zoin and Bryce need at least two weeks Was beautiful and wonderful can’t wait to go back
Definitely recommend 2 weeks to explore! In our 2 months here, we spent about 15 full days actually exploring (and not working) and we were able to see a lot!
Great footage. I love the way of your narration. And the video quality is on point! I spent one week in the Escalante area in 2019 on a road trip and I immediately fell in love with this outstanding landscape. I made Peek-a-boo and spooky slot canyon as well. Peek-a-boo was great but I was not sure if I could make it through the complete Spooky canyon without getting stuck. So I turned around at the drop-off with the rope. Additionaly I was on my own and couldn't risk to get injured or lost if something would have happened. I then tried Spooky from the other side and then I really got stuck due to some extra kilos on my hips ;-) So, I luckily had made the right decision to turn around. Puuh. If you ever have the chance to hike the bolder mail trail through Lower death hollow when you are in the region, just do it. That was my best experience there. It's a 2 time overnight hike and it's worth every minute. Not to mention Coyote Gulch a few more miles further down the hole-in-a-rock road. Safe travels. Regards from Germany Reiner
VERY smart of you to turn around if you didn’t feel confident! We are big believers in only doing what feels safe for you! And that hike sounds awesome! We’d love to backpack out in Utah sometime!
That waterfall was like you had stumbled into another world, stunning. Flippet no way, those canyon slots would totally freak me out, your poor mom musta been horrified. Thanks for another amazing video. Take care on the road.
The waterfall was gorgeous! And the slot canyon alone didn’t scare my mom (as long as it wasn’t raining!), but once she sees that we had to climb up and rappel down, she may have delayed nervousness 😂
Talk about perfect timing! I just pulled into Escalante an hour ago to boondock (since Bryce was too crowded). This video is a great help and intro to the area.
Went for peekaboo and spooky, did just dry fork narrows, came to know from your video. I thought I did at-least one of them. We got confused and was little skeptical about the area. Thanks for showing us. You guys are doing great and going well prepared. This video gave me the confidence and information to go and try the real ones next time. Btw, my dp is from the same hike. 😬
It is a bit confusing! We even had a map and followed the cairns and still got turned around lol! We hope you can try it next time! And love the photo!
Breakfast burrito connoisseur!! Still laughing! And that shrug when getting passed by other cars- classic! Looks like a ton of fun & what perfect timing for y'all to have a helpful person like Josh around!
After doing Angel’s Landing I asked my wife’s uncle what his favorite non Zion hike was since he travels all the time. He mentioned these 2 as 2 of his favorite 3 with Spooky Canyon as the 3rd
Oh my goodness! I am going to dream about crawling through narrow spaces tonight after watching this, but I am so excited to do this someday! We drove through the Grand Staircase, but didn’t stop. I was awed by the beauty of it.
Thank you for sharing these videos. I visited SE Utah in March, and there is so much to see and do. Looking forward to returning soon, and visiting some of these places.
That was such an exciting adventure. You two are so brave! Your traveling channel is my favorite so far. You are such a charming young couple who like some of my favorite things: dogs, camping, hiking, tacos and 🍦. Thank you for allowing me to journey into places i have not had the pleasure to visit. 😊 I pray for your safety and well being.
Looks interesting. My brother went there with my parents. He lives up near Salt Lake City. The earth has some amazing features! I hope you continue to have a safe trip with good weather.
A regular car would be MUCH faster than our van. Since we have cabinets in our van and all of our possessions, we go a lot slower. We hear it takes a normal car around 1 hour (that just shows how slow we were 😂😂😂)
Ahhh gotcha! To be honest, Adam drives the van much slower than most would haha 🙈😂 He gets worried (rightfully so! We’d be a bit screwed if something happened)
Thank you so much for sharing the beauty of this world with those who cannot get outdoors like that. Appreciate everything you do and love your spunk :-)
It's great to see that you made it to those Dry Fork canyons. If you plan to do more of those type of canyoneering style canyons, here are a couple tips. Wear old clothes, do not wear a down jacket, and pick up some rubberized garden gloves at a dollar store. We also always make sure that we wear long sleeves and pants when in the canyons, and pack shorts and a cooler top for the hike out on warm days. Keep exploring.
Great video as my son and I have a trip planned for May. You didn't mention how long it took to hike the Dry Fork Narrows/Spooky/Peek-A-Boo. How long should we expect to spend on this hike?
We are taking a trip to Utah NPs this summer. I love all your hikes! Catherine, I’m curious… what hiking boots are you wearing or you recommend? I need to get a comfortable pair before we do all these hikes. Love all your amazing and informative videos ! Ty!
Hi Christy! We have a link to our gear in the description of the video. Kathryn has been wearing the Lowa Renegades for years now and has bought multiple pairs. We hope y'all have a great trip! We have lots of Utah National Park content on our website, including a Utah National Parks Road Trip Itinerary ebook (100+ pages). We love making videos, but we can be even more detailed and thorough on our website. adventuresofaplusk.com/guide-to-national-parks/ Thank you and thanks for watching!
YOU MISSED IT!. You drove right past Singing Canyon which is at 11.3 miles (Burr Trail) from highway 12. It is a short little canyon that takes all of 15 min. It is called Singing because your voice echos so beautifully. Also, on your way to Spooky you drove by Devils Garden which is very worth while stop. Another nice slot canyon you drove past on Hole in the Rock Road is Big Horn Slot Canyon. Lesser known and not as many people but just as nice as Spooky and as narrow. When you exit Big Horn you are on a sandstone area just like the famous Wave. I agree Wire Pass road is worst than Hole in the Rock Road.
Yeah, we had heard about that! We had to miss a lot unfortunately. It's hard to do and see it all, but we were super happy with all we squeezed into one weekend :)
Hey guys love your video on San Luis Obispo I live near by and ESCALANTE means to climb in Spanish so yes 👍 you guys pronounced it right keep the great adventures coming 🤯🤯🤯
Alright! 👍 We’re glad we got it right! I (Adam) know a small amount of Spanish and wish I had more time to practice and learn. I’d love to be fluent one day. Thanks for watching!
