Saturday mornings aren't the same without the chaotic, childlike energy that Luke & Ellen consistently provide. It reminds me of the fun old days of Disney Club or Live & Kicking, but on a slightly smaller scale.

I saw that issue of Pokemon Magazine (published in the UK by Immediate Media) at Tesco's yesterday and thought "I bet that'll be on Show of the Weekend at some point".

I named my first one Thorgi and forgot it's name was Yamper.

When Luke said "They're starters, they're practically brother and sister." and I thought "Yes Luke but they're not blood related." I knew I had crossed some kind of critical anime threshold.

This felt more like a classic Show of The Weekend, OX spinning logo Luke and Ellen doing a gag intro, the theme tune, Ellen in fit of giggles at the absurdness of the intro. Content, outro music returns.

"Say the line Luke" "Published by Immediate Media. Not getting paid to say that, just seems fair" "Yay!" Also, Ellen was ruthless on those poor starters with the wrist launcher.

Luke: not original 150 so I don't have any connections to it. Proceeds to call Dratini a water type.

Luke desperately trying to nudge Ellen in the right direction for "fish and ships", and Ellen just not quite getting there, and then the cut to "Let's shoot Sobble in its soft sad mouth!" is one of the funniest things I've seen for a while. Show of the weekend never fails to bring the childlike glee, and I'm eternally grateful.

I always think I know what to expect with Outsidextra, and then something like the Pokémon firing squad comes along

I have a story to share about Yamper and how it almost instantly became one of my favorite Pokémon. Fair warning, it’s kind of sad. Right before Sword and Shield came out my dog got severely injured…so badly that we had to put her down. It was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to do. They say dogs are a man’s best friend, and she absolutely was. She helped me get through some really tough times. Some days were so bad I didn’t feel like living anymore, but seeing her smiling face and her cute little tail wagging was enough to keep me from doing something irreversible. So yeah, losing her was a huge blow to me. It had only been a few days since that terrible, terrible day I lost her when I started playing S&S. But something magical happened in my first random encounter: emerging from the grass was an adorable little female Yamper. (BTW, I went in completely blind. I didn’t know any of the new Pokémon in this game) Of course I instantly threw out a ball to catch her, and I did on my very first throw and with it at full health. (I would never attack a Yamper to begin with) But I like to think my baby girl was watching over me when that happened, and she wanted me to use the Yamper on my journey to help heal my broken heart. Obviously, I named it after my departed best friend and kept her in my party for the entire game. I never used her in battle, because I COULD NOT handle seeing her get hurt. So yeah, that’s the story of how Yamper became one of my all time favorite Pokémon and how the spirit of my best friend showed up to help me heal. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my dog was also a similar breed to Yamper. Hopefully I didn’t make anyone cry with that story. Sorry if I did. 🥹

TIL that “Nearly there” is the British equivalent of “Bless your heart” in the southern US. I guess it would also work for the 1-3 score range.

Ohm my God ; Ellen’s deduction on yamp was shockingly practical. Her logic had no resistance from luke , he was positive in agreements. Glad he wasn’t neutral or negative , and he was quite grounded with the reaction. John was a bit amped up when he heard it though . Andy would have bolted away from this quiz quick as lighting though.

Technically the magazine is wrong, Yamper is not owned by Chloe but is the family pet and it's trainer is her dad.

I love that reading Pokemon Magazine has just become a regular Show of the Weekend fixture now.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Yamper (nicknamed Woodward) initially but he was the only decent electric I had early game so I kept him around. Then he evolved into a Boltund and never left my party after that!

I swear, Oxtra are single-handedly keeping this magazine alive

I low key expected a comment on Yamper's official name in different languages. In German, "Yamper" is called "Voldi" (Volt + "Hundi" ("doggy" in German)), which has the unintended consequence of connecting it to "Voldemort". :)

We get one sunny day and everyone thinks it's summer already. A nice, cold, rainy spell will soon remind us all that it is still spring time.

i live in Korea where everyone is going nuts over Pokemon cream bread that has a sticker in the packaging. I went to the local shop and a bunch of kids were working the stock delivery driver over to see if he'd brought a resupply. Definitely do have a problem...
