From the Christian world, i often get told that I can't keep living as a Jew if I am a follower of Yeshua (Jesus). From the Jewish World, I'm told that I need to drop Yeshua and come back to my people. Many people would like to suggest that being Jewish and a Christian are contradictory. Is this actually so? Let's talk about it!

Yashusa is Hebrew for God. This does not mean the Catholic God is a different God from the New and Old Testaments, only that this is the name for him in Hebrew. He is also called Abba in both Jewish and Catholic faith from the Hebrew translation. The difference is between the new and Old Testament and the fulfillment of Gods promise to the Jewish people. Why anyone would choose to follow old ways and a path to Hell instead of the righteous path Jesus was sent to save path for is beyond me. It’s a no brainer once you come to understand *the fulfillment* which instituted the universal church.

Catholic Church doesn't restrict Jews who return home as long as the Feast/tradition doesn't conflict with Catholicism. Eg Hebrew Catholics celebrate Sukkhot, Yom Kippur etc. From conception the Church was an OFFICIAL sect within Judaism. When you read Acts 1 and if you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. There are 3 requirements which are met. Firstly, notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. Secondly next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a "beit din" (Hebrew court) formed. We see that there is a beit din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). The first example of Apostolic Succession. So two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a NASI (prince/temporal) and an AB (father/spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why? In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol (high priest office) fell into apostasy and beit din gadol cast a vote of no confidence splitting the two offices of the kohan gadol into the "nasi" and the "ab" within the Beit Din Gadol. Fast forward to Matt16, in this new Beit Din Gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in Peter (the first AB/father/pope meaning papa) by presenting him the Keys to the temple and bringing the two offices back together the way it originally was. The pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the NASI prince of the apostles and the AB/pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope as Peters documented unbroken apostolic successor is both ‘nasi’ and the ‘ab’ in Catholicism. Christ appointed Peter as His steward with the keys as per Isaiah 22 vs 19-24 and Matt16. Peter is First amongst equals. In the Davidic kingdoms there was always an al-bayith (steward), that is Peters role. Christ also renames Peter (the only Apostle renamed) as Abraham and Jacob were renamed by God in preparation for their specific role in salvation history. Peter's successors (Popes) are first amongst equals ie bishops who make up the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. First book of Kings lists all the Kings and it always has the royal steward/vizier listed next to the King as well because in the absence of the King he was in charge of the Kingdom. The steward is given the sash/robes/keys to the temple because the role is also a priestly role. The steward would wear the keys around his neck so the citizens of the davidic kingdoms knew who he was. (Rashi/Jewish sage writes a commentary on the priestly role of the steward/vizier and the Keys are the keys of the temple and government). Jesus presents the keys to Peter (Pope/ab) and appoints him/his successors as His royal steward to care for HIs flock until His return.

Daniel, just so that you are aware, there has been a Hebrew Use Liturgy since 1955 when Pope Pius XII instituted it. It is used only in Israel by the fraternal association of St. James.
@TheJewishCatholic
@TheJewishCatholic 3 года назад
Thank you. Yes, I’m aware of the Hebrew liturgy but in my insignificant opinion, it would be amazing to have a Hebraic Rite. Where priests have a bit of Jewish flavor to their vestments (like Greeks have theirs, Coptic a have theirs, Romans have theirs). Maybe including the Sh’ma in the liturgy. Where I won’t get looked down on for wearing kippah. Maybe a recognition of the Feasts. Of course, all of it done via the lens of Messiah and the authorization of the Magisterium.
@deusimperator
@deusimperator 3 года назад
@@TheJewishCatholic Correct, that would be ideal as we would be REVIVING a rite rather than inventing one. The kippa comes out of the Latin Rite. The feast days would be an issue as the feasts are already celebrated and coincides 4 out of 5 every 5 years and there was already a Pasche controversy which was resolved by a council.Yom Kippur could not be celebrated as a festival of the church but as a civic community perhaps as this has been fulfilled by Christ and is not relevant in the New Covenant. Pasche and Shavot would is fine as these are celebrated as by Jews and Catholics. Hanukah and Christmans one every couple of years will coincide, and fall in the same week. Sunday will always be the day of obligation. As a rute, vestment colors and type of liturgical vestments can be chosen. you can veil the sanctuary if you wish. Also, the praying of the sidur is fine and the same prayers are prayed by priests anyway, three times a day. In fact instead of the rosary the siddur can be prayed. The rosary is from the Latin Rite. The siddur is the prayer of the Church. Apart from the Liturgy this is the most important prayer of the whole church and has to be prayed by priests. However, there would not be an issue following the Jewish rotation of the prayers. It is called the liturgy of the hourse. A rite can choose their own feast days, but they have to have some significance in the life of the people. You can chose when to celebrate feasts of saints etc. However there are issues. You cannot start a rite in the US, I has to have its origin in Jerusalem. The Hebrew Rite which existed between 30 AD and 130 AD was based in Jerusalem. It must have legitimacy and authenticity. Then there are the political issues to deal with and these are going to be very significant. Ideally there would be a Patriarch in Jerusalem for this rite, BUT there is already a a Latin Patriarch which is fine but there are approximately 100,000 Arab Catholics in Israel who see him as their patriarch. The Latin Patriarch is a place holder in reality. There are significant political issues to sort out. A patriarch is pope for a particular people. Once a patriarchate is created it is permernant for all time and patriarchs act quite independently to the popes. They rank higher than any cardinal. So rite it has to mature ... In 451 a patriarchate was awarded to Jeruslam by the papal legate at Chalcedon. Right now the Association of St. James, a Hebrew usage Liturgical vicarate exists under the patriarchate of the Latin OPatriarch,
@YardenJZ
@YardenJZ 3 года назад
@@TheJewishCatholic I would also love to see a Hebrew Rite. However, I would not use "Jewish". This term represents most of all a religion; a post-Jesus Talmudic religion. I am a Hebrew and a Levite, but not a Jew. That said, this theoretical Hebrew Catholic Church could be a true, authentic Hebrew expression of Christianity. The Orthodox priest Father Alexandr Winogradsky does a great job giving us a small preview of it.

the Church is Truly Catholic, "according to the whole" when she is both, that of the Jews and the Gentiles (John 17:21) "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.", Yeshua prayed. The Church is in dialogue with her Jewish Roots. See the book "the Promise" by Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger and Searching her Own Mystery, the Church by Rabbi Mark Kinzer (approved by Cardinal Schonborn). This was revealed to me through lots of prayer, our unity with Israel into which we are grafted into the promises of Abraham. We need a Messianic Evangelical Catholic apostolate to move in this direction. I am in prayer.

Watch more of these videos. Judaism, as seen today, is not the “ancient Faith of the Hebrews”. It’s an offshoot. It’s a response to the destruction of the Temple, the sacrificial system and the priesthood. The rabbis came up with a response… but the true continuation of the ancient Faith is Catholic Christianity. This is what I highlight here. So though I embrace my heritage, I want to make it clear: I do NOT endorse rabbinic Judaism. I do, however, encourage Catholics to learn about the roots of the Faith and Jews to come to the Church. Jews can be Catholic without throwing away their culture, so long as it doesn’t contradict the Catholic Faith, and non Jewish Catholics can also learn about their roots and apply cultural aspects that enrich the Faith.

The question is as relevant as saying: Irish or Catholic? Do You Need To Choose? For almost 2,000 years being Jewish was a religious issue not an ethnic issue. The misunderstood Inquisition was simply the body that determined your loyalty to the state. So if a Jew was asked to leave Spain or convert and converted in bad faith then this body found them out. Mossad anyone? Its only in recent history that the idea of being Jewish became a biological and not a religious concept. In fact I would go as far as saying to become Catholic is to no longer be a Jew. Something Zionist legislation supports. (see Jew who became Catholic priest denied Israeli citizenship).

Glory to our King. You’re welcome. That’s a great question. As I mentioned in the video, the Jewish heritage belongs to all Catholics as well. Now, when it come to participating in cultural customs, I don’t see it as a problem myself. The things that must be highlighted however, are that, as for a Jewish/Hebrew Catholic, any non-Jew that does these things must simply be doing it out of their own free will, they must make sure to do such things under the lens of Messiah and in line with the Magisterium. This person would have to recognize that participation in such actions is only a devotion purposed with appreciating the heritage of the Messiah and the Apostles, it is not a requirement or a means of attaining a higher status in the Church. But to be honest, I love having folks over to my house for Shabbat, even if they are not Jewish. Sometimes the men chose to wear one of my extra kippot. We sing the traditional songs and have a great time. :)

When I study haTorah I wear kippot; it is respect. Anytime I go to Temple I wear kippot; it is respect. When you make 'Avinu sh'basha mayim..." The greatest amidah taught us by our Rabbi,why would I not wear kippot; it is respect. There will be those who look askance. There will be those who snicker, "....ah! the new Jew....". I have heard it all. Be of good cheer. My wife was some put back when we observed Hanukah and Pesach and I wore kippot; it frightened her because she did not understand. But once she said the prayers with me and she lit the Mashiac candle on the first night she understood. There will always be those who do not understand; be Tz'adic in all you do and they will understand.

Remember what our Rabbi said words to the effect: "...from the heart comes murder, jealousy, adultery....". The only true Faith and proper continuation of Temple Judaism (the Faith of the Ancient Hebrews) is Catholicism. I retain certain parts of my traditions of my Jewish heritage because I am a Jew. None of what I maintain contradicts the Catholic Faith but rather serves to strengthen it and serves as a tie to my heritage.

@@erinsnook8537 for sure. No need for argument. I have heard that before. Several folks have mentioned it but in actuality, that is not true. In fact, the teaching of the Church is that there will be a mass conversion of the Jews (a return to proper covenant with God) before Yeshua returns. That is a sign of the end times. See Romans 11:11-25 and the Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 674 and if you would like another source, www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-corporate-conversion-of-israel is another good source. @@TheJewishCatholic Yup, I'm familiar with that section in the catechism. The teaching I- and apparently others- mentioned IS true. It is official church teaching. As catholics, it's important not to pick and choose only those things we agree with or to misrepresent church teaching, even the difficult and/or uncomforable ones. That is not a catholic approach. Thank you Daniel. I am in a discussion on another YT channel with a Jewish person about the genealogy of Christ. He claims during the time of Jesus people were considered jewish if their biological father was jewish, if Jesus didn't have a biological father who was Jewish he would not be considered Jewish. I replied that Joseph adopted Jesus, that means He is Jewish. His response was that adopted children are considered part of the tribe and Joseph is descended from the house of David but it also means that Jesus didn't meet the criteria to be Messiah because he has to be "blood" descendant from David's house. He said the fact that Mary was from the house of David is irrelevant because the descent was considered only from the male parent. Any insight into this issue would be appreciated.

Firstly, that’s hilarious. I love how folks in the unbelieving camp claim “to be a Jew, your mother must be a Jew”… but when it comes to Yeshua “I meeeean, the father must be a Jew”. But the fact is this, BOTH parents are Jewish and descendants of the tribe of Yehuda. Therefore, Yeshua is Jewish. What? Do they think He was born from a Chinese mother?… these are the type of silly arguments that to me are not worth going into. However, Halakhah as it has been for the past few millennia has claimed that the Mother transfer the Jewish identity. Some claim that the Father transmits the Tribe. In either case, no one disputed this in the early years. This is an issue now because no one seems to know what it really means to be a Jew. Every rabbi gives a different opinion.

Usually identiey follows the faither and during the first and second temple period it the father who determined the tribe. One has to remember King David adopted 5 children who were adopted by his wife. These were considered his own legitimate children (see Sanhidren 14b). Only the kohenim has the rule that one an adopted child on whose biological father was not a Kohen could not be a kohen. Your tribal affiliation was dependant on your father, not your mother. So a kohen could marry a non-kohen woman and the children would be Kohenim.

The Western Catholic Rite is a universal rite but there is are other rites in the East - such as the Aramaic using rites. There are two rites which are almost exclusively Jewish already. The Malankara and Syro-Malabar Rites found in India are very likely all Jewish. They in fact use the Peshitta as their Tanakh. They made very few converts. St. Thomas went to India to convert Jews who already lived there. They still hold the liturgy in the same language in which St, Thomas celebrated the Liturgy - Aramaic (same language spoken by Christ). Also some of the "Arab" Catholics who live in Israel have petitioned the Israeli government to have them declared Aramaics as they are not truly Arabs - which is true. These people where forced into accepting the Arab ethnicity when the area was conquered by the Arabs.
@TheJewishCatholic
@TheJewishCatholic 3 года назад
Well, while it would be nice to have a “rite”, many other cultures don’t have rites either. The Church is universal and thus must allow for a diversity of cultural flavors. This is where the Catholic Church differed from the Orthodox. The Orthodox churches are truly geographically and culturally focused. Each church is tied completely down by its location, culture and language. But, as jews, we can still form a unified presence in the Church and we can still take part in our heritage. That’s why I made this video and also tied it up with the interview with Cardinal Burke. He even says we SHOULD work towards an identifiable presence. But we need more Jews to come in :) So come innnnn!
@deusimperator
@deusimperator 3 года назад
I second what Dan said. Most ethnicities do not have a dedicated rite. In the Western Church, the Liturgy can be celebrated in any language as it is the universal rite. If you want the Liturgy in Hebrew you just need to find a priest who would perform it in Hebrew. So come into the Church (meaning the Catholic Church). That said there is very specific a Hebrew use Liturgy in Israel and it is not found outside Israel and is considered part of the Latin Rite. IT is all about belonging to the covenant. G-d chooses people He has preordained for salvation and brings them into His Church. The word chosen and the word elect is the very same Greek word used in the Jewish LXX and the Greek NT. This Church, the Catholic Church is where G-d collects His Chosen people, His family. None of the Orthodox Churches have that universality promised by Christ, they, to this day, remain ethnonational churches. Each of these churches is a rite to itself. However, each of these Orthodox Churches has a representative rite in the Catholic Church. It is only in union with the Pope that everyone has that unity which Christ prayed for. The Catholic Church IS *THE Orthodox Catholic Faith* Unlike all the other religions, except for Judaism, it takes a while to become Catholic. You have to attend some classes and spend a little time studying. At one time, like in Judaism, it took about three years, as it did for my mother who converted. Now it is much easier and takes about 7 months. You are taught what Catholics believe and ask questions and you can after that, if you chose to, become Catholic, take more time to study, or not join at all. There is no pressure to join at all. Many just go to learn what Catholics believe. When a certain congregation decided to become Catholic, I was recommended by someone I had worked for in the past. to help the priest with the Evangliusm program (RCIA) for the new Catholic parish and help answer questions people might have. So, consider just signing up at a good Catholic parish. From what I hear it is hit or miss. If you have any questions you can ask me. The program starts in September and runs until Pasche (March/April).

It is more appropriate to use the phrase "Hebrew" to avoid confusion, because "Jew" is too much of a loaded term, and most properly used to describe those who reject Jesus Christ.
