The War Wagon has +5 bonus against standard building armor, which the castle is classified. So having all those Wagons outside (rather than garrisoned) was more effective. The War Wagon also has 3 base pierce armor and 130 HP so it's a good tank for castle fire. He was able to burden the repair villagers and skirmisher that came to the castle's defense. Not to mention that Viper was a brave hero of glory and honor who is viewed blessedly by the micro gods.
Doesn't affect it lol, Masonry and Architecture gives "Building" armor, War Wagon has bonus attack against "Standard Building", it's different armor class. Sure it adds more pierce armor too but castle already have enough pierce armor to reduce the dmg of each war wagon normal attack to 1 anyway.
War Wagons are such a strange unit in that sense, it makes sense for balance that Masonry doesn't stop the infantry bonus but for some strange reason archer platform type units (War Wagons, Elephant Archers & Balista Elephants) also ignore it.
eagles, huskarls, samurais, paladins, camels, camel archers and bombard towers counter them. the other thing is that they are extremely expensive, making 30-40-50 war wagons as seen here can only be done in 1v1 if you are already dominating. massed skrims, halbs, hussars all beat them cost effectively. whenever you face 40 war wagons, you should already have the eco to mass 100 hussars. if you don't, that means that the eco difference has already decided the game.
@@viktorreiter8811 this is FC dual castle WW rush, all your listed counters are assuming you can boom enough to get them in late castle or early imp, this strat does not let you do that. Your only chance to win is to succesfully deal damage in feudal, giving you time to knight the korean player before they have eco to do this.

My Dark Ages can be extremely stressful because it can go wrong at any time, meanwhile, Viper is fucking about with keyboard cam and keyboard microphone and still smoothly goes into his opener... Superhuman monster.
Would be interesting to see some keyboard cam of other rts games. I play supreme commander where the main thing is holding shift to queue up commands, so our hand moves are so different, even tho we have same principles (one key, one order/production/selection)
Because you said this was unbeatable I bet my house I would win against somebody, but my three war wagons were easily overrun by their 12 knights and now I am homeless. Pls send help.

Monks, and spears shred. In late game going ram spears can dominate them. They’re not as hard to counter as people make them out to be. Getting masonry could’ve saved the guy, or doing damage to vipers eco
They have 11 attack and 150 hp, so the threshold at which knights just get melted without accomplishing anything is a lot lower than it would be with crossbows.
i know he owned bruh here. but is there seriously no counter to war wagons? Koreans are the most hated civ in aoe2. why doesn't anyone pick Koreans if you can simply spam war wagons to take down units and buildings?
It's the strategy that is hard to counter, not the unit. Normally you only face 30+ war wagons in late castle or imperial age, at that point there are many counters. But here Viper went all in. Fast castle, only 1 town center and double castle. He sacrificed his long term eco to get a big mass of war wagons as early as possible. Good strat, now that Koreans get the archer armor upgrades for free. To counter this you need to attack in feudal age. If you don't, then you will not have enough time to counter the war wagons.
