When will people get it? The industry there for money, nothing else. They want the artists to do their bidding. The ones who make it did their bidding. They don't get to express what they want
@@AS-wj1duhence why they go solo and make their own way and some do better than actual companies. some artists are over the industry ripping them off and robbing them. it's better to do your own thing without these companies.
@@AS-wj1du Exactly. It's a soulless business that does not care about artistic integrity. Look how many of our R&B singers like Amerie, Teedra Moses, Keri Hilson, Mya & Ashanti (though she was huge at one point) etc. had their careers just disappear to make way for the crossover dominance of Beyonce and Rihanna, that's not a coincidence. They (industry execs) figured it's better to have two globally dominating singers raking in all that revenue than a pool of lesser grossing (but extremely authentic) R&B girls doing okay. For music lovers like myself, that was so disappointing. Those singers I mentioned were the soundtrack to my life growing up. Mya is now independent and you can hear how rich her and uncompromised her music remains. I couldn't stand the watered down R&B sound from the 2010's and onwards.
This is why it is always important to try and stay fully independent if possible even if it takes a long time to get the recognition for your hard work
It's not about who's more marketable, it's about who's more willing to get auto tuned n willing to sell their soul. If u don't ablige, you get into an "accident"
@@ingridj7070I think you’re right. Producers want what makes them money. They want WHO they want - a Beyonce, a Britney, a J-Lo. Connections and money. As a result, “pop” music sounds repetitive. I don’t blame the singers, I blame the producers. They use the same damn songwriters and don’t let early career singers have control over their own work.
I didn’t know her nor do I know about a lot of the people in your documentaries…. That’s why I’m watching them so thank you!! Leah was such a beautiful talent. What a loss. 😢
This is my new favorite channel…I love your in depth research…Although these videos have sad endings, you do a great job shining a light on their talent and accomplishments! 👏🏾
I remember meeting her & seeing her perform at a conference I attended in 2012. My friend was her escort and she was very sweet and gracious. He was the first person I contacted when I learned of her passing.
I blame Pharrell and Germaine Dupree and the record company who took full advantage of her and was jealous of her talent. That's what the music industry does.
How could they be jealous of her talent when they were the ones who signed her? They were eager to work with her. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just questioning.
This made me tear up. I never knew she passed away. I thought she was so unique and gifted 😢. She randomly popped in my head today so I searched yt and came across your video. I remember voting for her on American idol and being hurt when she didn’t make it. You could see the passion she had…… and at that time I swore I wanted to be a singer as well. She was so beautiful and humble. I watched her yt channel and she was so uplifting. Rip Leah 💔
Strange celebrity deaths like this are common: sudden unexplained erratic driving at high speeds before a crash destroying everything at the scene. It happens with politicians as well. Toxicology reports can be faked, as they’re all in one big club. So tragic.
I came across your channel about a week ago. I really enjoy it. I've never heard of her before. Keep the stories coming. I just watched the Simone Battle story also.
I loved her so much!! ❤ As a R&B singer for over 30 yrs it's hard enough for us sistas to sing soul and get a push so now it seems that the tables are turned and the vanilla girls doin it don't get a fair shake at it. I love Jojo and Pink,Teena Marie was my Queen. But had they resorted to pop or alternative like Pink the numbers would change on sales and promotions. I respect them for staying true. R. I. P. to Leah and Teena ❤❤
You tell no lies. Whenever any artist out here (past and present) assimilates and bends to the industry's whims they do tend to gain much more fame...but they are often NOT authentically happy when that route is taken. The industry profits off of and promotes cheapness, not the organic😐😒 Also, Teena was and always will be inimitable and soul stirring❤ Keep bring true to yourself as an R&B singer and good luck!!!
Man i remember voting for leah on American idol she was my favorite....i followed her career afterward and i wanted her to win so bad. I wish things had worked out differently for her 😔 fly high
New sub! Great style of storytelling and thorough information sharing you've got going on here, Jeury. I remember when the Rasual Butler incident occurred but I was not familiar with he nor Leah Labelle at the time. How tragic. I appreciate finding out about this talented and strikingly beautiful young lady, and I look forward to researching her music.
This makes me incredibly sad, but also inspired! I truly loved Leah Labelle and I will never understand why she didn't blow up the charts! I know she's singing in heaven and that at least gives me some comfort. Thank you for this great video on her!
I was hoping you had footage of her at the 2012 soul train awards where she sang square biz . That was the first time I was introduced to her and it came also my mind every so often
@@Bravetreee it's not about streams , she probably ghost wrote a lot of songs , they always kill the people write for others so they don't have I pay them later
She reminds me so much of Rocky from bgc . Especially since they both had that same haircut. I also remember running into the raw video of the accident they were in and it was….A LOT.
I found her on RU-vid - before RU-vid was a thing. She'd post cover song videos. We were soo happy when she told us she won't be up here as often bc she found work as a singer. Soo sad. She was sweet. 💕
I didn't know she had passed away until like last year. Because I was listening to her 'Sexify' song on the YT music app and I was like 'i wonder if she's still making music' because I always loved that song because it used to play constantly on MTV Jams, and when I found out she passed I was shocked. R.i.p to her and her boyfriend🕊️
I remember when they first announced their passing, first they said it was Rasual butler and his wife but then when they released her name i was hoping it wasn't her and just someone with a similar name but i already knew it was likely her. they posted the video of emergency crew on the scene trying to free them, rasual died instantly but the police report said she was still alive when emergency crew arrived but passed away before they could free her.
Your content is so good I just found your channel or should I say it found me I can’t wait for the conspiracies videos I can already tell they are going to be really good.
With her talent, she would had been better served as a Broadway talent. She'd could of been "rediscovered" there. I truly have more respect for Broadway musical types, than with music pop stars.
You should do one on Nikka Costa. That GAP commercial put her Like A Feather song at the top and then she became another victim as an artist of 9/11. I'd love to know what she's doing now.
Anytime there's a "BEAUTIFUL", well loved yt woman with a black man, the media always try to save her reputation by saying she was his wife. They did the same thing w/DC and Jacky Oh.
Wow, the irony of me watching this video for the first time today and hearing the name Tavarius Polk hours after hearing about his passing. Can we get a video on him please? I would like to know more about his work. No clue of who he was until today. 😢
I look her up at least once a year, so it was very cool to have this new video to watch. First time I heard of her was when she covered Teena Marie at that awards show. Then her live sexify performances with the cool choreography was what got me hooked, I watched all of them many times! Very sad that she lost her life. I think her music didn't do well bc they didn't know how to promote online very well-- she did-- you go on RU-vid, you make Instagrams, now is tiktok. To just keep her as pharell's protege at a time we really didn't care about him anymore or that era was ending. Now the industry they know they want insanity and she wouldn't fit in now anyways. She should of been told to go back to RU-vid but all we kept seeing was that same photo with that same haircut. The songs they were giving her only had so much depth. Sexify is so cool sounding but it's dumb if you read the lyrics. It wasn't relatable but I still love it.
Loved Sexify. It was one of my fav songs. I learned of Leah’s passing a year after the fact. Too talented to have been placed under the table. The accident seemed shady too.
I heard about this story and fell in love with Sexify. I’m now in love with Orange Skies. Such a talent 😢. Thanks for these deep dives. They’re very informative and are done well. Rip Leah ❤
Just now finding out that she passed I’m so hurt because I loved HER. I listened to Sexify EVERY SINGLE DAY for almost 3 weeks straight. Such a beautiful person inside and out. RIP LEAH 🥺💞
I understand it. I've auditioned for both American Idol and the Voice. Me and a lot of others sang the house down but we're told by producers that they didn't know how they would market us and offer us up to other shows like "Songland" to audition for.
When I auditioned for The Voice, I was 14, and hearing all those amazing voices, I knew somebody was leaving with a red ticket, literally no one did, that's when I learned the entertainment business was a business. It wasn't about our talents, it was about being marketable. Seeing that white lady sing SUPER BASS and win, had me absolutely floored, I literally laughed seeing that bs, and for whatever reason I felt relieved that I, nor any of those beautiful talented acts made it to the big screen, cause her career went no where. She was used for ratings, and tossed to the side, none of us would've deserved that.
When will the Music industry Ever‼️do right by these Amazing God given Talents? The Music 🎵 industry needs to control and directed by the Gifted Artist period.
They just want money and use artists. The ones who 'make it' do their bidding. That's why they look miserable. Some step out because they want no part of it and others sell their👞s
I loved this chick! She was the one I was rooting for in American Idol but she was on the same season as J Hud and Fantasia! I so wanted to see where her career would go 😞 but that's not how things went sadly 💔💔💔
You can see her spark fading as the video goes on, especially after Jermaine Dupree and Pharrell enter the scene. How many women have been destroyed by men in this industry before they even reached their full potential? We’ll never know exactly but I bet it’s a lot more than people even realise.😢
The minute I clicked on this video I said to myself I hope she didn’t die! I mean I’ve never heard of her until today but man I was like I this isn’t an she died story. Man her and her boyfriend died oh my goodness😕😕
