20:10 I like how some chatter just sporadically claimed that an emp was sending out alpha particles, and everyone went along with it to look smart. EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse, alpha particles are helium atoms, not photons. Literally makes zero sense if you've taken like 1 physics course.

The solution about running in parallell that Felix is describing is actually how you combat bitflips, you run 4 systems in parallell with redundancy so that whenever an error is detected, you compare the 4. The chance of the exact same bitflip happening is so astronomically low that it's a fail-safe measure.

Luckily (depending how you look at it) Higher energy rays are blocked by the atmosphere, so the 51 joule ray would just create a lot of smaller particles which would scatter

it technically still is. UV is not energetic enough to cascade heavy particle showers down the surface to flip transistors, but it's plenty to damage DNA.

if the guy was playing on an original nintendo 64, it's possible something similar to "crooked cartridge" couldn've happened. Slight movements to the cartridge or something like dust on the contacts could cause weird glitches like that
