Thinking of studying at the University of Adelaide and want to know what people REALLY think of studying there?
You're going to want to watch this video first!
Rob Malicki from A Life That Travels takes a walk around UoA's beautiful campus nestled between North Terrace and the Torrens River. Along the way he talks with students and takes you through some of the key things you need to know about the university: its strengths, some of the background and how it ranks.
Why?
Because there's too much pressure on people to "work it all out", so this review is designed purely and simply to give you an unbiased look at what the university is like.

Good day, Rob, Been following you from a long time; your presentation and all review regarding universities are excellent. Well, I have few questions to ask you regarding UOA: a) In your opinion, Is it a good university to pursue a Masters of engineering in civil and structure?. b. In terms of getting work. How is the reputation of the University of Adelaide among consulting and construction companies? c. Does this course come under the skill migration list? And do you consider these fields a promising pathway for PR? d. Can you suggest few other alternative universities for postgraduate studies with a good impression in the civil engineering field among industries?
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni 3 года назад
Hi Amul, Any Masters in that area should have good job prospects. If you Google the skilled migration list you can find the current list of skill migration occupations. For any MEng, search the Engineers Australia website to check that it is an accredited program. The current list is here: www.engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/2021-04/Web%20List%20-%20V42%20-%20210415.pdf (If the link is broken just google engineering australia accredited degrees).

If reputation is most important to you, you should be able to find your answer on the ranking of engineering unis at Australian unis. www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/university-subject-rankings/2020/engineering-civil-structural Outside of the Group of 8 unis, I like RMIT and UTS as alternatives.

@@ChoosingYourUni Hey mate. Should I study marketing at Adl uni or UniSA. I read your comment but why do u recommend UniSA?
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni 2 года назад
A few reasons. I love UniSA’s branding program. Look up How Brands Grow by Byron Sharp. One of the best, statistics based no bullshit marketing books out there. The business school also has double accreditation by AACSB and EQUIS. That won’t mean much to you right now but it tells you that the school has been quality controlled by both the American and European business school bodies. Not many programs are double accredited. Plus the uni is very industry oriented and has come through Covid well relative to other unis. All pluses imo

So many good unis for education so it really depends on your overall priorities, such as what level of education (or what focus, such as curriculum development) you're hoping to focus on. Since you're bringing your family too, an important thing to consider might be the city or location that suits your family best in terms of lifestyle, schools, cost of living etc. Many things to consider!

@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni Год назад
My instant reaction was UoA, but then I looked at Deakin's program and it looks solid too. Adelaide has lower cost of living but will also be quieter than Melbourne as a city, so those things depend on your interests and circumstances. Deakin has better options for overseas study and leadership, plus I'd say Melbourne has the bigger construction industry (so maybe has more opportunities like internships etc). I'd call this a line-ball choice - really depends on you and your preferences.

For example, if you want one of the most prestigious institution is on a beautiful campus bin the University of Western Australia is maybe the best choice. If you want to be at the University that has very strong linkages with the community is that they work in then Wollongong and Newcastle make good choices. Flinders University has an excellent reputation for its research and also has excellent facilities and very well respected courses. After that all of the destinations are very different. Perth is a beautiful city and is very far from the east coast. Newcastle and Wollongong about regional towns that have beautiful beaches and are within striking distance of Sydney. Flinders and Adelaide are both in Adelaide which is a lovely mid sized city.

@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni 3 года назад
Hi John - thanks for the message. UoA is a very reputable uni. Not sure about Chem Eng specifically but it's a program that's accredited by Engineering Australia so I would be confident in it. Chem Eng is on the skilled migration list: Search for "chemical engineer" here immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skill-occupation-list PR depends on many things and on what "channel" you're hoping to come through. There are restrictions on PR if you take the post-study work visa, I believe, so hopefully you would want to find work/sponsorship while you're here. Not fully sure of the logistics of that but Australia is going to need lots of skilled people after Covid so I'd be pretty confident of finding something with an engineering masters.

Adelaide is considered "regional" for the purposes of post-study work rights, so in that way it is a good option. I don't know what IT companies are there, but if you're doing anything like cyber-security, data analytics etc. you should find work just about everywhere.

Check out qilt.edu.au and look to see it’s strengths. There are also some “subject specific” rankings out there that you could look up.

That program is going to be pretty consistent across most universities as it is accredited.

Hello Rob, I want to apply for Doctorate by research in Human Resource Management in Adelaide. Because i like relatively quiet and low living cost city In your opinion, Which one do you think is the best in this subject between University of Adelaide, Unisa or Flinders?

Congrats on considering a PhD. Adelaide is a great city for both cost of living and a lower stress environment. PhDs by research are very specific so I wouldn’t want to recommend any exact uni. They are as much about the supervisor and topic as they are about the uni itself. Maybe the supervisor is even more important than the uni. All 3 unis have some research strengths, so try to find the research strengths that align best with your interests.

@@ChoosingYourUni Based on jobs .Part time and also the jobs after PG.Coz i've heard that there are no jobs in adelaide because the companies only hire the ones who have a PR or an australian citizenship

If you’re an international student there is a post-study work visa (you’ll find the details via the Australian Govt visas). This gives you permission to work anywhere so you could always move after studying. That said, Melbourne is 4x bigger than Adelaide, so naturally there will be more jobs there. I’d recommend that you look at what sorts of internships are available through each of those universities because one of the best ways to find a full-time job is to already make connections by doing internships in companies during your degree.

Heyy!! Can u suggest which universities are good for studying radiology or dentistry in Australia? And plz tell me which is having better scope in near future - Dentistry or radiology? Thanks
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni Год назад
Soooo many teaching those subjects and both are accredited disciplines so the course HAS to cover the same content basically wherever you go. Both dentistry and radiology have plenty of prospects - both will always be needed! AI can't replace a dentist! Can it replace a radiologist? Maybe more likely than a dentist... Adelaide is a good city. I'd also look at Perth and Brisbane - all are cheaper cities to live in with good lifestyles and lots of opportunities.
