All of those examples of racism presented are from random racist assholes, how is any of their actions the fault of the faculty? That would have been a more interesting side of this to try to explain.

Little Miss Dysthymia So you really think this career student (25 years old, 7 years a student at this school, multi-millionaire daddy0 truly felt oppressed. You want the president to acknowledge things that may or may not have even happened. Where's a pic of this alleged swastika. Even the police seemed unsure in interviews I've read if that incident even happened
@EnterJustice

I'm sure the kid did not have the direct intention of getting people fired, or giving the University such a bad reputation it had to close dorms and fire even more faculty. He felt victimized or otherwise wanted to cause some ruckus, started a (figurative) fire, and by the time it dawned on him he'd lost control, he felt like he had no choice but to march forwards. Head raised high in righteousness. It's a simple case of him not being able to foresee the consequences of his harebrained actions.

sorry, I'm not from US, so I might be missing something here. But was the president himself painting shit swastikas and randomly screaming the n word to the students outside? Or were people doing this endorsed or congratulated by him? Has he promoted racist behavior? So why the the hell did he had to resign? What were his crimes? Was he a good administrator? I really fail to understand this, and your title was misleading, it said it should explain this case, but it just showed how bunch of entitled teenagers had 2 people fired by no apparent reason. And how much influence on random academics or administration people can your hand egg sports teams have.

+Toxis Don't feel bad I live within a half hour of this place and am appalled,as are the majority of area residents, despite the load of crap the media is feeding the public. Most people see this for exactly the sham it is & their precious football team is going to notice when they are playing in a half empty stadium

***** again, I'm not an expert, so I might be wrong, but do presidents of organizations should deal with petty arguments of classmates? If someone calls me names, I don't expect the president will come to my rescue. I have a suspicion, that this might be an apogee of social justice hysteria: if you are told daily by your social justice professors that you are being oppressed, you start seeing oppression everywhere.

@arambaali
@arambaali 8 лет назад
+R2_G4 Or, they should hire sound mixers. It isn't the job of editors to play around with EQ to adjust frequencies. This is a frequency issue, the editor wanted a the music to be heard but couldn't mix it well with the narration, they should have stripped the narration's frequencies from the music and then you'll be able to hear it fine. All in all, they should hire sound people. :)

***** It absolutely is the job of the editor to deal with the audio. This is just a leveling issue. Turn down the level of the music. That simple. And it is absolutely the job of the editor to make sure the audio is good. Most places don't have a budget for separate audio mixer and sweetening session. And this really doesn't need that, it just needs simple leveling.

Do you truly believe they buckled because of the football team! Yeah right! This institution has the highest ratings in the nation! Academics gets you in this school not a football or basketball! It may help, but does not get you a diploma! Protesters are demanding a 10% minority increase in the school population. That's fine if they can make the grades! But they are wanting a minority increase because they are minorities. Is that fair to the current students who has made the grades and worked hard for their accomplishments? No its not. They want entitlements!

A school president doesn't have to share a story of social injustice on campus. He is not required to do anything but his job, which is to make the school run as efficiently as possible, and educate the students therein. Colleges are supposed to be safe spaces physically, you should not have the fear of being shot or robbed or killed or maimed. You are expected to be physically affected by course work, in the form of being tired after studying all night for an exam. You should expect to have your world view challenged, and you shouldn't be offended when a different point of view crosses your path. Second, I would ignore protestors wearing a shirt clearly promoting black power and the black panther party, with the pan-African flag colors printed on it. They surrounded a car and were clearly not ready to have a discussion, they just wanted to put on a show. Lastly, and most importantly, your right's end where another person's begin. This is HUGE for the B.S. student movement at mizzou against the media. Just because you have the right to walk forward does not mean you have the right to push someone out of the way. Your right to walk forward ends where their right to stand in a place begins. Thats why we have this social construct of walking around people, if we did not, New York and LA around 5 pm every day would get very interesting. Your rights are not any more important than any other person's on the planet, regardless of their perceived injustices or struggles, views, social status, gender, age, etc.

I just caught up on all of the background of this. As to the ACTUAL deplorable acts, which were the use of racist terms and then the feces swastika, the chancellor, TWICE, and then the residence hall person, almost IMMEDIATELY responded with sentiment and/or action. And so did the campus police. SIGNIFICANT immediate action in the case of them announcing mandatory cultural sensitivity training for students and faculty! But all that within-reasonable-range action and response wasn't enough for these misguided "activists" by a country mile. But nothing after that was genuine - everything else was nothing more than making up excuses to show your power as an activist who would act unreasonably as long as possible to get demands they wanted, including destroying the career of a guy who had nothing to do with it. I read all of the letters and demands,. These would-be Rosa Parks (except.. uh... no.. not even close) kept on with their tantrum until they got the symbolic head of the highest-office white-guy-in-charge. AND the head of the chancellor who was directly responsive and cooperative immediately!!! Pretty disgusting display. Not in any way heroic. The President didn't do any of that racist stuff. But somehow the weight of "systemic oppression" is laid at his feet. First.. that phrase means almost nothing. WHAT is your point with using that phrase? That is societal, not a campus thing, unless you can prove much more specifics than you even attempted to allege, let alone prove. Never mind that the "hero" (HAHAHAHAHAHA) hunger strike guy was just some rich grad student. Oh, but the rich hunger strike guy posts on his twitter about how love will conquer all. You didn't use love. You got a President and a chancellor unnecessarily removed her had a history of cooperating with you and were continuing to try. The only thing you wanted, for no known reason than apparently you wanted to be dramatic and show your power-through-unending-unreasonable-action, was for him to resign? Because his car, which he wasn't driving, bumped someone? I didn't see anything about any actual injury from that, and you guys blocked a parade in progress! The ONLY thing you showed here was an ability to approximate the shakedown "activism" tendencies of Jesse Jackson. Incredibly unimpressive, and utterly divisive ("I was admitted to a college in the United States, but it is inherently against me, so I will punish the institution itself until it bows to my immaturity and victim status!!") Jackholes.

I can say as an Alumni how much of a disgrace this student body has been. No wonder Alumni contributions are so far down from the past. When will people learn that Social Media is not the way to solve problems. There were mechanisms in place and these students ignored them. Justice that is just takes time. You cannot just demand something on social media and expect it to happen. In this case it did and look at how bad thing are now. Nobody won ... except that all those students are almost gone now. It may have been time for some changes.. now its time for the students to "pull up the big boy pants" and be emotionally and socially intelligent!

+Jv Jones Think the problem is that people are pissed because they take a series of unrelated events and tie it all together. They don't know how to respond to the events since there isn't a real bad guy so they create a scapegoat. someone they can fling their blame at. It happened to be the president. It feels like these things are more often fueled by ego than by justice. Rarely have I seen people think beyond their outrage.

I totally agree with all of the demands, but forcing in black faculty would require removal of existing faculty, wouldn't it? It would feel REALLY shitty to be a professor at that university who lost his job to get replaced by someone of another ethnicity. Also, I hope they didn't ignore the best people suited for the job just because they were looking to fill the quota of black faculty.
@tcironbear21

So let me get this straight. Loftin who promptly stated that this behavior was unacceptable and then forced an entire campus to participate in mandatory class was still fired. And because Wolfe was a little cool to protesters disrupting a parade he had to go also? This basically boils down to the fact that someone persuaded some black football players that this was racism and then they held the campus's sweet collegiate football cash hostage. And that is when the Board of the University decided to scape goat Loftin and Wolfe before the claims could spread to them. Why do I have a feeling that there is some back door University politics going on here? I was senator at my college and I remember during my tenure that there were definitely faculty factions trying to use us as pawns in their plans.

When the northern Missouri won in the civil war they should have taken total control of Missouri burning the capital in Jefferson City to the ground. It represents slavery sense that part of the state fought for the south and lost . This is the very reason you see that Missourians are raciest in these areas . The part of Missouri who fought we the north are not raciest and live side by side with people of color building their communities. I have been in a similar situation as these students. I understand what these human beings of different skin color are going through. However, I have taken advantage of the great opportunity to inform myself about how the essential ways of life work. I have gotten to know myself enough and along the way know how much every single human being can potentially be worth. Thus, I can go to a grocery store thinking about picking an orange, providing I know the basics about an orange condition, I pick one look at it feel it (interact) then come to a conclusion on whether this orange #1has the potential to be enjoyable, tasty, worthy of making part of my body ( meet someone, interact, seems to have qualities I like it becomes part of my life) #2 I notice the orange is not in the best nor the worst condition so it can do, I'll still consume it ( I notice things good or bad, things I like or not, an open mind, I'll still make this person part of my life) #3 This orange is simply in a condition I know it could potentially be harmful to my body if I consume it, I simply not pick it I let it be ( this individual has certain qualities that I do not like that they could affect even his/her life itself which could lead to a not very enjoyable visitation of life. Definitely not something I want in my own visit. This human being simply lacks the cognitive ability/thinking flexibility to comprehend basic things. I just let this person go, let it be. Since I realized the existence of this concept I no longer judge people just by looking at their color. I know how complex/interesting the mind every single human being possess can be, as a result race instantly vanishes becoming just another of the very simple worries we humans let to shape our way of living life , probably just as important as my cell phone battery status (not very much). I have been in a situation in which an individual judged me based on my looks/color, I never did try to change the mind of this person. I simply was myself and at the end this person on its own understood and ended up making an effort to interact with me. What this students, I believe, and whoever still lets race issues be a part of life need to learn and understand is that we could never make everyone happy. There is always going to be people who unfortunately have a biological/mental deficiency in their organism to comprehend and or look beyond social issues that were created to keep people entertained. There is many details missing in this university situation, reciprocating by ruining/destabilizing someone else's life may not have been the best way to achieve worthy results in this case. We should be the change we wish to see in this planet.

im surprised you didnt mention the video, the one where the president was blaming protesters for racial intolerance. he could have worded any other way but he said along the lines that their is racial prejudice because you think you dont have the same rights. ive seen this point only made with anti gay rights activists, especially lawmakers who deny equal rights because they dont want them to have more rights than non lgbt supporters. this isnt one group fighting for more rights than another, this is two groups trying to live peacefully in the same space.

A few points much deeper than what a news story can cover: College football players going on strike and administration members soon after resigning just goes to show that the power is in the money. Coaches make much more money than the president at a lot of schools. Tuition is jacked up every year to fund this nonsense; it does not go to support education; it's for the coaches' new mansion. What the administration did was a business decision. As they say, "if you are at a poker table and you don't see a sucker..." it's the students and their parents who pay for this circus. You don't need a college degree to be an athlete. Racism is an old problem with roots in a not so distant past. You may know slavery existed until 1865, but you might not know that over 1,500 of Nazi's moved to the US at the end of WWII via "operation paperclip" (look it up, it is documented) and other ways that got smothered in classified papers, around 70 years ago. My point is: when you have children, you pass your values to them. Now imagine, daddy or grandpa came over after WWII... do I need to say more? Project to the future, and it may figure why we go in debt but never owe to the military industrial complex, which president Eisenhower hinted at during his farewell address. The next president, Kennedy, who wanted to pull out of Vietnam, well: you know the story. And that's why this insane war in the middle east has lasted over 10 years without any positive results, like less violence! War became a purpose on its own. It's time for people to realize there is no such thing as black or white or any color-based race; there is only one race: the human race, and we should help each other. Public protests against violence have pretty much ended with the 60's, and no wonder why. Most of us are under control of the media and have no voice.

The university needs to reach a consensus about how to treat black students fairly. Maybe they can pitch it as some sort of compromise... a 'Missouri compromise' if you will. What if, for every 5 white faculty members, the university hires at least 3 black faculty members? I think a 'three fifths' agreement like this would strike a pretty fair balance.

Well.... I am Asian American and I got made fun of countless times at school and the teachers gave no fucks about it seriously. But when ever someone made fun of a black person ,its for some reason gets all serious as in suspension. And this ins't just me like its very common for Asian Americans living in America especially when living in communities where there ins't much Asian people in it. When ever something happens to black people everyone gets all raddled up. But to be honest the racism I received at school doesn't bother me much at all. What I am piss about is the stupid double standard when it comes to racism against African American and no fucks given when it comes to Asian Americans. I am 100% sure that Asians get teased more than Blacks but i almost never hear about it ;However, whenever something happens to a black person its almost always on the front page news.

Hold on, the students are saying that blacks are being oppressed and subject to racism because of two - three events. AND the student body PRESIDENT is African-American. If there is racism is prevalent in that school, those are some terribly ineffective racists.

There are only two things in the world anyone has control over, their own actions and attitudes. Nobody but the individual themselves can make a change to either and believing protest is going to change anything is naive.

You want an explanation? A common protesters' yell is, “We have nothing to lose but our chains. In Karl Marx’s “Communist Manifesto” we read: “The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains.” Yes, there is a connection AND an explanation. .

This whole thing sounds a bit ridiculous just based on what this video has presented. The president of the University shouldn't be concerned with an individual yelling racial slurs. Nothing in this video really shows any large problems worthy of this kind of protest.

We are raising a generation of hyper sensitive babies. What is going to happen to these kids when they enter the real world? Something doesn't go their way and they will be protesting asking for their bosses job? Grow the hell up, grow some thicker skin. Hold your head high and prove the doubters or "oppressors" wrong. It is the only way to win the respect or whatever the hell it is this group wants.

If you believe that fighting for mythical issues will change anything than be my guest. Governments and protests will never change a group of peoples private opinions regardless of what the news tells you little one.Once you grow up a little bit you may change your narrow credulous view point. For now I will enjoy the peace and quiet of the sand around my head. Enjoy your having your head in the clouds. How is the view? Can you see the rainbows, butterflies and gumdrops in the fucking fantasy world you dwell in?

Correct! Protests over worthy causes have been successful in the past. However imaginary wrongs and misplaced anger only breed more idiocy and contempt for a world that is only as "broken" as an individual chooses to view it. Its ok little one. One day you will age and acquire some wisdom.

That's pretty cowardly that the president felt like he needed to resign. Really the way that this could of all been handled is just to have addressed to 'attacks' and 'racist actions' immediately, and then maybe hire more security guards so s to prevent future occurrences. That's all. But this was really a big overreaction, and just another example of how liberals and a lot of blacks like to be victims just for the sake of attention.
