Though one of the things that shouldn't be forgotten is that it included the bane of modern gaming, battle passes which means that certain cars are now NEVER obtainable again for people that wasn't there at the time. Which should be a massive no no for any game that focus heavily on "Collect them all" like gameplay
As someone that got hooked to Hot Wheels and started collecting them thanks to games like Turbo Racing and Stunt Track Driver I'm so happy to see Unleashed series success!
@@justinterry7853It gives me hope for the future of Hot Wheels video games. Maybe Mattel should do a Hot Wheels racing arcade game. I'd happily play that in my local pizza place.
@Suprasumo93 I started my Hot Wheels journey with playsets and cars. And I will sing this from the mountain tops until I die an Old Man: 2000s era Hot Wheels playsets go harder than what we have today.
Mate, you're a complete gem of a youtuber. I've seen many guys on RU-vid doing the same sorts of video with (arguably) better presentantion than yours. But they mostly lack soul and passion on the narration part. You've got that. That soul and passion when talking about games (especially racing ones, imo). You don't sound desperate, as if you felt the urge to scream and say loud words at every time, no. You sound calm and confident. That's the thing I admire the most in your videos.
Is a real shame that both this game and it's sequel are so underrated. This is what people have been asking for since ages and now people ignore and hate them.
Probably because it’s been ages ago and by the time the games were out, the racing game market has been over saturated with other kinds of formulas It’s to the point that even a game as simple as re-volt isn’t being talked about as much anymore
I am SOOO excited for hotwheels unleashed 2 oh mygodddd.... The environments are even cooler and feature many outdoor areas, THE ACCELERACERS DLC IN DECEMBER!!!!!, all the gamemodes and extra movement features, ect. I really have high hopes and I pray we wont be let down 😅
It's not just all facets of media that Hot Wheels has ingrained itself into. It's become part of our culture. There's something about toy cars that brings people together, with Hot Wheels being the top dog. I sparked up a conversation in a Discord server just by making an admittedly stupid joke involving the Bone Shaker, which quickly went to a conversation about collecting, fond memories, and discussing the unrealistic nature of some original design cars. It was a positive memory I can recall back to when discussing Hot Wheels. Countless friendships are made with this brand as the catalyst, and the success of the Unleashed series so far has me hopeful for future games to learn and improve upon each other, with hopefully fantastic critical and financial results.
HotWheels World Race, Stunt Track Challenge, and Beat That were absolutely phenomenal arcade racers. So glad that Unleashed 2 is going to carry on the legacy of those titles.
Underrated video. No Velocity X mention, but otherwise a damn good analysis on why the first Unleashed game did so well. Looking forward to the review of the sequel. Personally enjoying it a lot, and think that it might be better than the first game, but some issues from the original still persist.
Hot Wheels Unleashed was very underrated game imo. While it wasn't perfect and the way the DLC was handled could've been better, but it was a breath of fresh air for racing games. Like The Crew 2, I did spend a lot time into game and even if did get repetitive. The main impact of the game to me was how cultured the game was as it showed off what I remembered about Hot Wheels. Since then, I'm back to collecting more Hot Wheels cars and I'm planning on going to Hot Wheels Legends Tour later this year. For HWU2, I'm interested to see what happens in the game as the new stuff sounding promising, but I want to see more of it before I buy it.
This game has brung me in the fun and enjoyment for a good 1 in half years, really looking forward to the 2nd game, hope it fixes the flaws that this game had like the limited space in track editor. It was a good game and the next step to the hotwheels racing games.
I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel of this game. The crew motorfest was a little bit of a letdown. Forza motorsport is just atrocious. Hotwheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged might be the racing game to play this fall.
Instead of a How Wheels game with life-size cars and a story and gritty graphics, Hot Wheels Unleashed has the actual toy cars with orange track in a large life-size room. Focusing on the essence of How Wheels itself instead of the essence of popular racing games was a great design choice. I also like how there are no distractions. I don’t play racing games for the story. Thankfully, this game has no story, no cutscenes, no human characters, and no dialogue. Just racing, the way I like it. 😎🏁🏎️
Great video! This game was genuinely fun and it really did feel like flashing back to being a kid. Its not a perfect game, expensive at first too, but it's a great time. Glad to see you cover it!
Honestly i disliked Unleashed, you really feel like driving toys, and the lack of proper stunts and powerups really make it lame That's why i will always prefer Turbo Racing, you actually felt in a " Hot Wheels world " unlike Unleashed and it's " Beat That track type " but even Beat That was better at that
I already liked your content but man seeing that you're an acceleracers fan really bumps you up even further in my eyes. Shame we never got that final movie
I absolutely love this game when it came out it reminded me so much of my childhood and being obsessed with those little Hot Wheels video games back in the day it reminded me a lot of like Hot Wheels Turbo racing and Hot Wheels stunt track driver such a great game you can clearly tell this development team really poured their heart and soul into it yeah there was tons of micro DLC in c*** and there's effectively more dlc cars than thare are base cars in the game but the cor game itself was a blast plus we did get a lot of cars at lunch Even if we ignore all that DLC cars so I still feel like we didn't get completely taken advantage of plus it was at a discounted price so we care really complained that mutch about it over all a amazing game im pumped for the sequel that got anounced
I took a week off work to play Unleashed and I 100% the game in about 3 days and immediately msgd my gm I’d be coming home from “vacation” early so I could work the next day. Anyway, HWU was so much fun with the roster and track design which led to insane shortcuts where you could cut half of the track on some. Game was money well spent but that goty edition thru me off guard for sure.
I am so happy that Unleashed is doing so well, I had so many Hot Wheels when I was a kid, and I’m so happy to see that this game lived up to the hype. It’s a lotta fun & I love the inclusion of licensed brands. I’m 100% copping Unleashed 2 when it releases, and definitely gonna main that Chiron 🤩
My first Hot Wheels toy car was a Ferrari F50 in 2000 and first game was Micro Racers in 2001. During the 2000s decade, we had a plethora of Hot Wheels game releases and animated series apart from the toys. Last concrete video game we played was Beat That in 2008-09. During the 2010s decade, everything fell off. Hot Wheels went into doing DLCs with other racing franchises and had mediocre animated series like Team Hot Wheels, maybe because the company founder, Elliot Handler passed away in 2011, leaving big shoes to fill. When the Italian studio, Milestone Games was given the license to make Hot Wheels Unleashed, the 2020s decade saw a turnaround somewhat.
HWU2 was my first HW game and i love it. I hope they will make a game in the future with every model they ever made, i think this would be a dream come true for the fans of the series.
I do think it's a bit of a misstep to forget to mention Stunt Track Challenge in the list of Hot Wheels games that Unleashed could've taken inspiration from. Especially in terms of vehicle customization. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a potential remaster/remake of that and World Race in the not too distant future.
The Hotwheels Unleashed games are the absolute best feeling racing games I've played in years. You have total control of of the drift and it's easy to get around the tracks perfectly with a little bit of practice. The 2nd one's campaign fixed many of the issues I had with the first one and the control is more loose in a good way. Great video.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 has more than racing time or boss fights. It has the waypoint, elimination and on boss fights instead of the race first. You instead fight the boss to win.
I am one of the people that knows only the HotWheels name, so basically this game wouldn't appeal to me much usually. But knowing that this is a high profile arcade racer that is actually fun and was successful, that feels good man... I guess I have a new arcade racer to play after Wreckfest and Redout 2!
Hot wheels beat that desperately needs a revamped verison id love to see that also world race to. Id die to see world race remastered put on xbox series x or ps5
Fair if you're not a fan of Dirt 5 (you display them as an example towards the end of your video), but to argue that it is an example of a game that doesn't know its audience... is simply untrue. Its an arcade racer through and through and makes no effort to appeal to a sim audience. Granted, thats also a reason so many have soured on it, but to imply that its unsure of its identity is misleading. Dirt 4, yes maybe. Ironically, this game which is arguably the. most confused on its identity, is also the one most beloved by the sim community. Go figure.
Sadly, for me this game just didn't click with me. I certainly can see its positives, and I can't deny this was a successful title. However, not having vehicle classes, really bad difficulty scaling, unrewarding vehicle progression (since high tier vehicles can be gained very quickly through blindboxes), and it being overly monetized for a game I felt wasn't worth $50, it really disappointed me. In saying that though, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 already looks to be a massive improvement over the first. I get the feeling Milestone really listened to the community's feedback, so I'm really looking forward to that game! Also, on a side note, it's good to see you doing racing game videos after the issues previously!
6:01 that was the most bare bones career mode I have ever seen in a game. It was just a collection of races with no story, and the “boss battles” were just normal races with a stupid start/finish podium and a mild new mechanic.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is basically better than Beat That, but I wish the environments and the cars from that game came into Unleashed considering Milestone and Activision are both different companies. Hopefully, Unleashed 2 does that.
I got my start with Velocity X and then later played World Race and Beat That all fun Hot Wheels games and while there are issues with Unleashed 1 its still a great Racing game that im glad to have picked up so much so I got back into collecting again at the start of 2022. I am excited for Unleashed 2 however the DLC I'll be wary of.
I love this game so much. I could have played it for longer and longer time. What went wrong. Is they added Cross-Play to Consoles Version and Microsoft Store Version. Steam and Epic got L for this. Yes there is the switch. The sad part is they accidentally added cross play to steam/epic and removed it immediately. The multiplayer is dead in steam and epic(I am steam user). and for some reason my game never connects to their server. And lack of game modes is also big factor the game feels like a prototype or testing product. I wish Unleashed 2 solved this all problem you mentioned and what I have mentioned.
Unleashed 2 would have been better as an update for unleashed instead of a standalone game. The original game disappointed me ONLY because of the lack of attention it received from the developers a few months after it got released. Other than that it was so close to being a really good game.
My one complaint with the game is the lack of actual cars. I get the whole fantasy car thing but I will absolutely love to see some new real cars in the next game.
The first game i ever played was Hot Wheels Turbo Racing in my PS1 when i was 6 years old, the game was never mine, it was a borrowed game, and man it was the best game ever, and i do still own some Hot Wheels cars.
Unironically this game got me back into hotwheels; the game itself already did that on its own merits but then they added highway 35/accelaracers cars and it just made it better! So excited for UnL2 💖
