I was not a salesman but worked in an Inbound Call Center where we had to sell Service Solutions to the customer. What I did is found out which service solution would help lower their bill: like the $5 100 text message package. This was back in 2005 to 2007 They always asked if it would help me and they wouldn't buy it unless it did. So I never had to push them.

I just started in sales(insurance agent) 1 week ago. Working commission only everyday only to make NOTHING is VERY frustrating. On top of that I’m facing eviction soon. But at the same time I love it. The possibility that I just might make a sale that day. The possibility that I will one day be financially stable for not just myself, but for my family keeps me motivated. A part of me wants to quit and get a paid salary job, but I just can’t. I worked for about 9 hours today and made nothing. But I’m not even upset, because every day I learning something new. To learn something new is so so rewarding. Commission only is tough, but seeing my colleagues making a lot of money doing it really motivates me to do and be better, because I know that one day that’ll be me.

I have been in outside sales for twenty five years (53). I am so burned out with the crm, the increased targets, the commission plan that changes annually. I have made good money mind you doing this. But now that I am in my 50's, I just want a job where I can go to work, interact with people and at 4 pm, I am done. I do not have to worry about work. I have accepted an inside counter sales position with a supply house and love it. I make about $20k less per year, but my finances are in order. And again, when I leave the office, I don't think about work.

I’ve been in sales 26 years and this is definitely still true til this day however I would give you some advice that I wish someone would of gave me when I was younger. You can’t keep up this forever, going to bed late waking up at 4:30am, on your laptop at home at night working late. You literally have a poor work/life balance I mean if you do the math you’re really putting in 10-14 hour work days. You can keep it up for a while but once you get married and have a family it’s a different ballgame. My advice would be to have fun and do the sales thing for a while but don’t stay in it too long, pivot into a different role in order to keep yourself fresh and avoid the “salesman label”. If you do it for too long it will be difficult to change roles in the later part of your career because you’re just a “salesman”.

Sales is definitely the most important role in any business. Ultimately, you understand people and that is the most powerful thing. Imagine being dropped into any situation with people and being able to transact. Those skills are ones that will set you up for life, with other people's products or your own. It is quite normal to come across to some people as arrogant but you need to always have that energy, be positive to go from one call/appointment to another and stay in agreement. The qualities to do that are quite rare.

I work in sales too, and I have to say that I wholly agree with what you have described in your video. Work never stops, even outside of the office and time off with family burns faster than a candle. Yet, I am proud of myself to be doing something that I always was afraid off until I tried it, it proved to me that I had a hidden potential that had to surface. For someone who passes 100 per cent of their time cold-calling and call emailing, I find it exrtemely rewarding when I convince prospect to hear what I have to offer and test out the waters and see how I can help them solve problems. Most rewarding part of the journey, is when a prospect says " You are doing a great job ! let's connect tomorrow"

How to know? one should ask themselves why am I doing this, can I do this? and most importantly, what is my objective behind the shift. If they have got all the answers and they are solid, then go for it !

Very accurate portrayal of sales. It's freekin' hard! I find that the hardest part is managing your emotions. When the phone is ringing, I'm in my happy place. When it's not, my inner critic starts chirping at me about how I'm in the wrong career. It's a constant battle! Just showing up at an office and having the boss give you work to do sounds so appealing sometimes. Being in charge of your own success is exciting but also incredibly mentally challenging.

To me it only get interesting if you’re interested in the product you’re selling. I’m working for a reputable company but I don’t really have a feel for the product we’re selling. Also, because of the nature of the product, we are heavily focused on homogeneous B2B clients, which means 2 things, one, the work got pretty boring after a while, two, I acquire few transferrable skills that would help me advance in my career in the future. The excitement wore out quickly after I joined. I’m planning to move on to the next job but I need to at least have some “milestones” to write on my resume with this job. Thumbs up.. but by FAR not the best video on the channel! There's different sales.. are you selling something someone doesn't really need? Selling something that revolutionizes an industry or field? Selling something that saves someones company substantial money? Or selling the next new thing? All of those factors go into how a salesperson is recieved. Take you and PES. A product that's over saturated in the market, however, your genuine appeal, passion, excitement, and honesty, mixed with saving the consumer 30%, and the products revolutionary good taste, all combined into your success. If you legitimately have those same views about what your selling now. You'll be a success.. if not people will see through it. A quote I always held on to from my days in sales: "If you want to increase your rate of success, double your rate of failure" -Thomas Watson

Sales is a grind. Half of your battle is people internally. You never get good training on your products. It’s trial and error, they change quotas, territory, many companies don’t let you vocalize your concerns. They try to keep sales people at bay. Internal processes have to be in place or this could handicap your sale. Make sure you believe in what you’re selling and that you have the support of upper management. It’s always good to work for a company that’s sales led, not marketing or operations led as they don’t always understand the needs of a sales person. Every companies job is to make sure your sales people are proficient and effective. Many sales guys ket thrown into management jobs and have no management skills. They may have been a good rep but can’t lead a team

Everyone will try to convince you it’s worth it cus of the big money. It is NOT worth it. Many sales departments turn over rate is over 40 percent. That’s cus they prey on young people fresh out of college promising autonomy, big fat cash & a rewarding career. ALL COMPLETE BULL SHIT. DON’T DO IT SON. Just cus you like talking to people doesn’t mean you have to pimp yourself out. Fuck sales especially inside sales

Sales is the most unsecured and hardest career for the following reasons. 1- Sales is a number game, if you don't achieve your monthly sales Quotas or simply Targets you will be out in 2-3 months time, job hunting 2- How hard you work, efforts you make, how friendly or honest to your prospective clients are no use and in vain if you don't archive your sales targets. 3- Your Manager is your best buddy as long as you archive or exceed the monthly sales targets, if you under perform or don't archive sales targets, you will be treated like dirt by your manager. 4- Your Qualifications or Degree certificates are just a piece of paper in a sales careers, cos if you want to progress in your company (promotion) or secure your job, Sales performance is the main factor for consideration.

The amount of senior people who have sat with me listening to calls who say I couldn't do what you do makes me laugh. The most poinent comment "You have to believe in what you sell " I have 3 product lines and I believe in 2 but know pressure coming to sell the one I don't so looks like a new role is required. Great video really honest.

It kind of confirmed what I always thought about being a salesman. The good ones don’t believe that they are deceptive at all, they believe in what they’re trying to sell is going to impact the other persons life. I wanted to get in the seals myself because I’ll tell you this. I used to work at Lowes out in the garden center. And do you know how hard it is to sell dirt? You’ve got to be able to convince the customer that it is what they need. You gotta be able to convince someone that they can’t just dig up some Carolina clay in their backyard put it in a pot and then put a plant in it and call it a day. It’s very hard to sell gravel. And I have learned the best ways to sell a product is to believe in the product. I would never try to sell anything to anyone that I hadn’t used myself.

I’m thinking of going into sales from a mechanical engineer and then pivot into my own business. I’ve heard sales is the best skill to learn if you’re going to build a business. So I plan to master sales within 5 years and scale my business either in the process (I’ll slowly and gradually cut down my hours as my business starts to grow) or after a leave sales. Is there anything I should look out for/ any tips?

Good video, you summed it up accurately. Although I prefer to start later (be fresh) and work some longer hours in the evening. Also after some time you start to notice patterns, know the products and it takes less time to do the work. In my first year i used to work 65+ hours a week, now its down to 50+. Also don't forget the amazing relations that you build up with your customers and to me they're more like friends then a business relation. But yes, it's stressfully, but also rewarding. Kind Regards, A Sales Engineer from Belgium

I’ve worked in sales since 1992 and all the points you made I can agree with. It’s a great video and I love your passion for what your doing. The greatest Lession I have learned is missing from this video. Balance in life. It’s great to have drive, passion, work ethic and balance. To keep up the pace for a long time, 20-30 years is hard on your mind and body. Once you have a family of your own adjustments need to be made to prioritize energy for kids, partner and others in your life. Balance is talked about a lot I know and I believe the greatest mistake made is when I know what it is and I believe I can get to that once Im finished with x. The finished part never comes and because I believe I’m doing great and I know what balance is that I can grab it anytime I want. This is a danger zone, beware, be mindful and nothing is worth your mental or physical health from suffering.

I’ve spent 16 long years in sales and one thing I’ve learned is that you need to take a bit of time out every now and again. Book a few days of PTO every 2 or 3 months and it’ll help keep the burnout away. Other than that this dude nailed what it’s like being in sales 🙂

Sales Is A Gift, You Either Have it Or you Don't. I Have been in the industry for 4 Years now and have agreed with everything you said. Most Sales People don't take care of there health and partake in other Activities *wink* But For the Most Part its the Fast Lane when it comes to income. Its Partially Gambling your income but with enough hustle you can succeed. Great Content You Channel Alone is going to make you KILL IT. I'm sure your management are spoiling you haha. Coming From Timeshare to Now Orthodontics Working From Home It Pays off if you can last long enough but depends on the product. Good Luck to anyone Trying it out Its worth a shot, I never knew I would be in this industry but now its the only thing I'm Confident In Doing Cheers!

Thank you thank you so much.. I have been in hardware computer electronic product trading sales for 6 years and a couple of years in IT Infrastructure. Presently started off as a solar energy EPC project sales engineer. What you said is every word true. Hustle hustle hustle. Many hustling times mixed with confusion and fast pace, but somewhere somehow when 3 out of 10 leads convert to closures, it's exhilarating. That's a rush we never get in any other field.

I use to work in sales and I agree its a roller coaster I found it challenging and rewarding in my youth but when I had my first child I needed to slow down and focus on family so I decided to switch career's. Do I miss it yes and no :D but I will never regret it. It helped me become a more confident person and now I can speak to anyone without clamming and coming from a person who was super shy and quiet everyone couldn't understand why I wanted to work in sales well it was to help raise my self esteem and give me more confidence when talking to people I just met. Love your video's I know its hard now that you are working in this career but I look forward to them whenever you get the chance to upload one :) take care and thank you for entertaining us :D

Been doing sales for 5 years and have become very good at it. Most of the time I wish I wasn't good at it. The abuse I take on a daily basis by clients lowers my quality of life tremendously. I used to love people. I fucking hate them now. That is not an understatement. I have less patience for people and view the general population with pure contempt. Being good at sales has ruined me as a human being.

I was in sales for many years, but had enough. I got burnt out. It’s great when you are selling and get that high….but it’s inconsistent and you have a LOT of downturns as well. Those downturns are the dangerous aspect of sales as companies will fire you on a whim when you don’t sell or don’t sell as much as they want. It’s a profession with a lot of turn over. If you are looking for a bit of stability in your life look for a non sales job.

You may consider a customer service or account management role where you are still interacting with the customers to support a product or service or even get them to upgrade, but not exactly having to sell them a novel idea or concept. Your pay might go down bit for these roles, but at least the work has a better chance of being more consistent and less stressful.

Truth is, when people want something, they go find it and buy it, with as little input from sales people, as possible. I know, I worked in sales for 20 years and HATED IT!!! Repeatedly, I had secretaries make fake phone calls to their bosses, to get them away from me, have been stood up dozens, if not hundreds of times. Have been told: "we'll think about it" when delivering proposals that they know full well, they're never going to buy. When profits are low, sales reps. are the very first to be fired and when sales are high, sales reps. are the last to be recognized, again, I know, I've spent my career being crapped on and I'M DONE!

Thanks for this man your vids are inspiring and also a motivation for me to get up each morning and work hard.I get up at 3:30 on weekdays to get to the gym(which I also work at) at 4:30,I only live 10 min away but it's nice to get stuff done before heading out the door I go for a 2 mile run and get pre work done before work at 6:30. I'm currently getting ready for BMT air force heading out in november to san antonio lackland.During work I'm usually able to get a good 2-3 miles done of running/walking with clients(physically mentally challenged) and run another 2 after work. These vids are great for reminding me to get work done and always work hard. I know it's not sales but I know many who are not getting ready for bmt and not working hard and are going to have a hard time. Thanks to you I know that, that is not an option. Can't wait for the next video man keep it up! :)
