There have been some great comedic duos that have brought us countless laughs over the years. There’s been Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Burns and Allen, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. But none of them represented the era of counterculture and hippie free love as much as Cheech and Chong. Back in the '70s and '80s, this comedic duo achieved commercial and cultural success with their stand-up routines, studio recordings, and feature films. You can’t have a conversation about legalizing ganja without talking about Cheech and Chong. Their story and career are one of the most unique in comedy history.

A long time ago, I attended an outdoor gathering personally attended by Cheech and Chong at a radio station in San Diego. The undercover cops were abundant. Several fans were arrested and roughed up by them. Cheech and Chong devoted their earnings to helping the arrested get free. They won my respect that day.

I remember when I was a young teenager listening to their first album with my friend's! In the back of that album was a huge rolling paper the size of the album cover that it came in and we all put all of our weed together a rolled the biggest joint that any one of us had ever seen !!!! We fired it up and only got about a quarter of the way through it and had to put it out, we were stoned off our ass'es and couldn't stop laughing at what we were listening to, they were hilarious !!!! 😆 Thanks for all the funny memorie's Cheech & Tommy, you guy's are priceless !!!!

As a 13 year old me and a friend was camping out at friend's grandma's farm way out in the sticks, it began to rain so we headed to grandma's where grandma cooked us up some rice and we sat to eat, James (friend) found an 8 track tape we had never heard of,,Cheech and Chong, talking and half listening to tape when the part of judge ordering bailiff to "whack his pee-pee: blurted out, we both had just taken a bite and both of us spit rice all over the kitchen with laughter , it was his brother's tape and that was introduction to the duo. good memory

So many memories growing up hearing this type of comedy for the first time. 1972 I was 13 and knew what weed was...... I brought the album "Smoking" (with a giant rolling paper!) home and my mom made me get it out of the house! Along with a Richard Pryor album. Their "Next Movie," in my opinion of course, was the best. It was one of only three movies we had to watch in Korea for one year. Blazing Saddles and Friday the 13th were the other two. Wasn't my choice, not into the horror bullshit. Into the 80's I was out to Sea and didnt see much of them after that.

Next Movie took what was brilliant about Up in Smoke and refined it. It's the superior movie IMO, but only just. They are actually works of art, both visually and comedically. Both have that beautiful Technicolor look and are full of great photography, music, and brilliantly talented and funny actors. But Next Movie gives the most bang for your buck, laughs wise. I laughed like a demented person right up until the last scene of them shooting into space with The Pretenders playing the movie out. Absolute masterpiece. The old lady (also the school secretary from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) was so hilarious, as was Pee Wee Herman.

But of course I listened to the entire record over and over when unsupervised, lol.

We got to see them in Berkeley, Ca. Oh my God, we laugh so damn hard. They did all the classic skits from the albums and more. The smoke in the place was like fog. During the show the power went down so we all were sitting there in the dark cheering and yelling on and on burning up the cigarette lighters. This went on for almost 5 minutes or so. And then stage left, out comes Chong with a flashlight yelling out, “ Hey man, what the hell happened to the lights man”. Everyone totally fell apart. Other hundred joints lit up with Chong on stage. Finally they got the power back up and continued the show. We Laughed so hard that night that our sides were hurting. Best show ever. Thank you guys.

I was introduced to Cheech and Chong when I was 10 years old. I found an 8 track in a stack of 8 tracks my parents had with an R.C.A. 8 track player. It came with these massive, heavy, 1/4 jack R.C.A. headphones that would fall off my little head if I didn't hold them in place. It was Big Bambu. I was hooked immediately, even though I didn't get a lot of the references and jokes, I was drawn to them. I am 52 now, and love them just the same. I am thrilled that their Legacy Lives On. Here's to ya Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong! Much Love. ♥️🙏✌️🖖 (Hey Tommy... It's 4:20 somewhere! 🤟😉)

@@deadendkid1968 My husband is a very successful sound engineer, and smokes daily. I don't smoke, but only because I never enjoyed smoking, but I did find a very old biography of Alice B. Toklas in a used bookstore that has her recipie for pot candy!! I'm planning to try that sometime. The recipie was excised from many editions of her book, which is too bad, because it sounds really good, and her recommendations to serve it at your next lady's bridge club meeting is awesome! She says everyone will relax and be in "good humor" after they enjoy these treats!!! Back then it was not considered anything unusual, on par with a glass of champagne or brandy, which I think is very sensible!
