"Minnesota Nice" is so fitting. Notice how his jokes were never mean in any way, in fact, they were about being nice. There is a special place in Heaven for Mitch, right next to the Dufresnes!
Looper you are wrong. Mitch did mention his heroine addiction on stage. "I am addicted to heroine. I can only sleep with women who have saved somebody."
I wish there was a way to describe his style of comedy.. it really is one of a kind when people make jokes like him now I can only use his name as a verb Your being very mitch hedbergie lol
@@tylerandleahcanadian3888 did you miss the vote? At your suggestion, we decided that his style of comedy should be unique to him alone and “you’re being very Mitch hedbergie” is the correct and only way to describe the genius thoughts that mitchs brain blessed us with. Anyone can have an observational, dry wit utilizing deadpan humor, but there is only one hedberg and it’s blasphemy to use preexisting categories when trying to explain to others what style of comedy he utilized. “You’re being very Mitch hedbergie” transcends genres and categories. It is one of the top honors that can be bestowed upon a fellow comedian as well as forcing anyone who hasn’t heard his flawless acts to look him up and learn. Plus then we get to use “very Mitch hedbergie” in everyday conversations which makes me laugh. All in favor? Sustained. It only needs three yays. Overruled. Tyler, Leah and I are in agreement. I’ve been led to believe all Canadians as well? But I await confirmation from rocky and bullwinkle
"I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, “You’re gonna have to move, you’re blocking a fire exit.” As though if there was a fire, I wasn’t gonna run. If you’re flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit."
It takes forever to cook a baked potato in a conventional oven. Sometimes, I'll just throw one in there, even if I don't want one. By the time it's done, who knows?
whenever i introduce people to his comedy, its always the same pattern; they sit there and smile wondering what the hell is going on for the first few jokes, halfway in they start get it and find the humor in his delivery and quirkiness, by the end theyre rolling and ask to watch the first few again now that they get what hes doing. he was like one of those movies that makes absolutely no sense at first but once you watch it enough times, its genius.
I'm really trying to like him from clips but it's tough.. I obviously need to watch a whole set.. Thx for the insight cuz I really wanna understand his humor man
I never understood why he needed to be “gotten”. His delivery was amazing for the jokes that he was telling. I think that it was the lack of him ever really narrating a story or point of view of any kind that might have turned some people off at first. His jokes were good, and his delivery was fantastic but his style was a bit unconventional...which certainly isn’t a bad thing. It’s a shame that he’s dead. I remember sitting around in my basement/living room/whatever you’d call it with corn dogs, magazines and books I’d read countless times already, and having him to laugh at during the night alone. And this old gas heater that I’d light with matches. Mitch Hedburg and Dave Chapelle were the last two comedians that I’d truly gotten into.
My dad and I were watching tv one day and we randomly happened to land on his Comedy Central Stand up and we ended up watching it and laughing pretty much the entire time. To this day i still remember that stand up and how much my dad and I laughed at it. Thank You Mitch Hedburg
Me and a buddy caught his Comedy Central special as well out of the blue. It was just on in the background at first, but it quickly caught our attention, and by the end of it we were both hooked on his comedy.
Reading this on Father's day, hopefully your dad (and you if you have a son) will have a Happy Father's day. In the end all we have are the memories we share with others.
Years ago when i was a college student in a smaller city in Minnesota i went to a comedy show at a local bar on a Sunday night. Here walks in this comedian on to the stage lookin like he's higher than a kite with his hair covering his face and wearing sunglasses looking down the whole time and I'm thinking to myself WTF haha. 5 minutes into the show, with one witty one-liner after another and a chuckle to follow, he has the whole audience tearing up with laughter. I mean his demeanor and delivery is what worked so perfectly, then maybe a month later i saw him on the Letterman show and I remember thinking holy shit i JUST saw him! He went from doing a show in front of an audience of 80-100 people to an audience of millions, crazy! Long story short i consider myself so very fortunate to see a Mitch Hedberg show live. RIP Mitch Hedberg
I have a 13 year old son with social anxiety who is the best comedian I know. He reminds me so much of Mitch in his delivery of jokes. I showed my son Mitch's special a couple of weeks ago and now he has watched everything he can find on RU-vid on repeat. I am so glad that Mitch's star is still shinning long after he is gone for kids like my son to see that you can do whatever you want in life. Sadly there are a few other lessons in his life to be learned also.
hopefully your boy gets to enjoy them in the luck and the wisdom of it. Honestly there is nothing that con be done to prepare and save the ones who get lost to H it's just way beyond the words of it all. that first hit is the one that kills the ones who end up dying. Doc Gabor Maté breaks it down pretty good, but there recipe for Armor has not ever really been found. Hope All goes right of course. Not suggesting otherwise. just speaking respect to both Mitch and the H bomb. He was a true gem.
They grow, into Shitty Feces (Fertilizer), then, they grow, into Trees and/or are Flushed,, into the Sea and kill lots of Fishies, then, Oscar The Grouch eats them and the circle of life, continues.
"One time I had a Jack & Coke and I saw that the lime was floating. That's good news, man. Next time I'm on a boat and it capsizes, I'll reach for a lime . . . and a lemon too. I'm saved by the buoyancy of citrus!" "When it comes to racism, people say, 'I don't care if they're white, purple, or green!' Oh, hold on now. Purple or green? You gotta draw the line somewhere. To hell with purple people! Unless they're suffocating. Then help them!" R.I.P. Mitch. You were the best!
Mitch invited me up on stage at the Seattle Comedy Underground in 1998 to do an impression of him. He handed me his glasses, his signature G&T and his smoke and gave me the room. Such a cool and friendly guy...and what an amazing talent. R.I.P Mitch
"hey man, I did not lose a leg in Vietnam to serve hot dogs to teenagers"... "you still have both your legs man".... "like I said.. I did not lose a leg in Vietnam to serve hot dogs to teenagers"..........
Mitch has been my favorite comedian ever since the first time I didn't get one his jokes. He transcended the bounds of normal comedy. They say that someone is always the brunt of a joke, and that we only laugh at things because they are too painful to cry about. But Mitch proved for all the world that it doesn't have to be that way.
Stumbled across this guy by accident & was instantly hooked. I then proceeded to search every Mtch Hedberg set on RU-vid. . Who wouldn't have wanted this guy as a friend ? RIP Mitch. Another genius gone too soon
"I would hate to be a giraffe with a sore throat." Actually bought Mitch's 'Mitch All Together' CD/DVD at a thrift store recently. It was not alphabetized...
Mitch once had a joke about dying on April Fools Day, the day I heard the news on the radio of his passing was on April 1st and while I was sad, it also kinda made me chuckle, I dig this dude and I wish he was still around
Mitch, you always spoke to me in a way that made me confident in my more innocent traits, like you were making kind and simple humor cool. You were great, thanks a bunch dude.
Pete Minns “They say Flinstones vitamins were the best vitamins because they were chewable.....All vitamins are chewable.....they just don’t taste any good...” One of my favorites.....
My favorite jokes: If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit. Unless you're a table. A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer. I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to too.
I was supposed to see him, I missed him once and when he was to come through again I passed due to financial issues that I could have worked out I'm sure. So never hold back on doing the things you really want to do, especially if that experience involves another human. Life is so fleeting and I regret thinking I could catch him down the road each time....until his road came to an end and I never got to personally enjoy him and thank him for making me laugh.
So true. I'm 60 yrs old, have little money but also have no regrets about the adventures I've had. Very blessed with wonderful memories and fortunately decent health.
"They say the recipe for sprite is lemon and lime but I tried to make it at home, there's more too it than that, hey do you want some more homemade sprite? Not till you can figure what else the fk is in it"
Don't use liquor as a crutch... "I can't use liquor as a crutch. A crutch is supposed to *help* you walk.... liquor severely screws up the way I walk." :)
I worked on Los Enchiladas. Got my first screen credit on that movie. I still have some newspaper clippings and paperwork from the production tucked away in a book somewhere. All these years later, it's still sad to think what could've been with Hedberg. He was an icon.
I just discovered this man today as I was watching Dimitri Martyn, after a video by Dimitri a recommendation from RU-vid brought me to Mitch Hedberg, he was good, too bad and sad he had an addiction. RIP🙏 Mitch Hedberg!
I have only just discovered Mitch Hedberg literally in the last couple of days and he is AWESOME I love his sense of humor. It's very sad he's gone. He was very unique and despite his stoner persona his mind was razor sharp. RIP Mitch you were cool.
Fun, intelligent comedians are not hard to find. What's hard To find is likeable ones. And Mitch was very likeable. His comedy was great and he's til this day one of my all time favs. Forever will be missed.
What a stand-up guy, I remember reading the cover blurb of "Entertainment Weekly" (before I'd found out about his passing) calling it "The Death of Comedy's Kurt Cobain" I still think that's totally valid 12 years later... Rest in Peace bro
I will always love Mitch...just who he was, his jokes, his innocence...How could you not love him. ? I've only seen him here on RU-vid, but connected to him beyond his standup....Always missed in my heart....Hope to give him a big hug in the afterlife.....Mitch, there are a lot of people here, living, who love you...Thank you for making us laugh....MIss you...
I actually managed to see him at a club in N.C. just before he passed. He was amazing, too. I've been kind of not wanting to go & see any other people I love this hard, just in case I'm a jinx.
I remember seeing him live the year before a passed, I was in tears he was so funny I think that was the year he updated his ant 🐜 joke to “if I pull your legs off you’d look like tiny snowmen” I never heard him tell that part before and we rolled laughing when he did
“Oh no here comes that frog! I better play dead” 😂 I miss his comedy so much. The world is a less pleasant place to be just by him no longer being in it
A buddy turned me onto him back in like '01 He told me to listen to his set twice . . I get that. The first time he was just so unique and not the usual rapid fire bits from other very popular comedians at the time. I wasn't really super into him. But I took his advice. The more I heard him the more I liked him. He simply grows on you, and sometimes you even 'get' the jokes a bit more when you hear them again. Cool guy, unique and creative.
His style was different. But once you come to terms with that, how can you not find him hilarious?! He was a good comic. Clever, obvious, subtle, overt, self-conscious, brave, scared, and genius!!
Only some have chlamydia, Jase. Not almost every one. And animal conservationists are working on eradicating the disease from koalas. But sadly, it's their habitats being eroded by city expansions, that is the main thing killing them.
His style is very unique and i can understand why people wouldnt be into him. I guess you could say people either love him or hate him... or they think he's OK.
Personally I think he was ahead of his time. Think of comedians like Jim Gaffigan, Tig Nattaro who have a distinct and unique flow, regardless of what you think of them. He would fit in perfectly today. His brand of comedy is so needed😉
Love Mitch. Went to 2 shows and his tribute concert after his death with his wife and parents. Dave Attell yelled at me because he thought it was me who was heckling him... Dave, here's the deal... it was the drunk jackass next to me. I love you dude! IT WASNT ME!
Hedberg continually thought outside the box. Tragic end. So many other great entertainers go the same way, at the height of their greatness, with so much more to give. Shooting stars...
You really think that's a funny line? That's something that some junior high wank would write on his book cover, right below a Van Halen logo...at best.
I remember him back in the 90s, he was and is great. His delivery style, ironically a byproduct of his stage fright, is what made him so unique. His humor was in the Steven Wright twisted observation mode, which made him awesome.
Knew him in the last days of his days with us. Not overly well, but well enough to know he was a comedic genius.... and troubled. I'll never forget sitting at a table with him and other comedians and just marveling at his genius combined with insecurities. He'll be missed forever
Annd, pretty generous to Jerry. Although, the narrator clearly says something like: although he never achieved the same type of success as Seinfeld, he didn't need to. Because he was Mitch Hedberg.
Jerry is a sit com story telling comic. Mitch was a comic genius, being able to make you think and once he says something you think how’d I not notice that. It was like he saw the world in a parallel dimension.
I'm so sad about his passing. As I am for every comedian that passes. He was at a height in his career when I needed him most when my life fell apart. So I go on to listen to him as much as I can
I seen Mitch live on Comedy Central in 2003-2004. He was one of a kind. It takes a lot to make me laugh. Mitch had that gift. He could use the lamest jokes and leave to a standing ovation. He was impossible to hate. Comedians are the true untold heroes. They are the ones that make us laugh in times of crisis. I can say from experience, the early- mid 00s were rough and Mitch is an inspiration that we will never forget and the joy he brought into this world. Rip 🙏 Mitch
