It is indeed devastating for us Mythbusters fans. I'm heartbroken at this. Rest in peace Grant Imahara. You are cool, fun, funny, talented and awesome. You're gone too soon. We will miss you.
Holy shit I just heard the news and I'm floored. All the memories of watching myth busters and having my mind blown of what these guys could create and test. What a sad day.
I’m in shock. He was one of the best media presences for Asian Americans for a long time in television and was an inspiration for an entire generation to go into STEM. This one hurts. RIP, and thank you for years of entertainment and education.
@@spookytimescaryvideos4395 what’s wrong with you? I am Asian American and grew up with a decided dearth of people who looked like me on television who weren’t depicted as losers and nerds, or if lucky, as a lifetime martial artist who existed for the white lead to eventually defeat after practicing martial arts for a few weeks via montage. Seeing someone like Grant, a competent, fun loving part of a team was something I would have loved to see as a kid, and I hope his presence in tv helped inspire a whole generation of future Asian American actors and actresses and people in the media as he helped pave the way for them.
@@Bearodon look man, i get that youre white and have never had an issue with seeing people like yourself represented in media, but asian people in the US have not had that benefit.
Who's here after hearing his death :( Him and the entire Mythbusters crew were my inspiration for engineering and science. You've done well Grant! May you rest in peace.
Well I just heard the news. Absolutely devastated. He was my favourite personality on the show as he didn't try to "steal" it but he was still a funny dude. So sad. Life takes the good ones far too young. God Bless Grant rest in peace.
i understand that youve probably have not worked around heavy equipment but what happened in that video is a damn close call. Imagine if that 800 lb piece of steel rolled one more time? He would have been pinned down by it. The crushing factor on his legs could have easily killed him especially because you have no idea when he could have received help. Life in trades like this is easily taken away. Since ive been a welder, ive known of 5 men who have died. That is only a couple years.
@@JamesTTierce been there. 300 lbs roll tipped over me (just like in the video) broke both my fib and tib bones on my leg (by myself). Safety boots did their job thoug, I was able to get my foot out safely.
Except people aren't responding solely as a laugh. They're actually criticizing the danger. Just cause you can make a joke out of something doesnt make it serious. Also just because I typed a paragraph doesnt mean I'm anything but calm. This may not be the case for most RU-vid commenters but It doesnt require much effort
Yes, that's how the Internet works. It's like when an asteroid comes within 2 million miles of Earth and you read how all life on the planet could have ended that day.
600Lbs falling like that is considered almost death. Imagine getting driven over by the back wheel of a car. Never underestimate the power of a heavy falling object, they a scary boi
@@SheepShanker That ain't the same. Many people die every day from heavy objects in blue collar work. Not very many get killed by standing on the sidewalk. Granted, sidewalks aren't safe either. lumberjacks have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world (~1/200 chance of death on the job). Their job is to make heavy objects fall. Have you been around large falling objects? Have you seen the insurance rates for anyone working around cranes/forklifts. My grandpa's company pays ~60$/hr in insurance per employee because cranes and forklifts. If they didn't have those, I believe the rates would be ~20$/hr. Insurance is based of the likelihood of an injury and the cost of said injury, with that high of rates, it shows the rate and cost are VERY high.
I grew up watching him as he came onto Mythbusters and loved him and his personality. Have even been getting into his new show White Rabbit Project 🐇. I've been able to introduce my daughter to him this way. Truly a terrible loss to many, many people. Rest in piece grant, you've done so much for this world.
Pretty sure they are. I thought it was odd that he presented it like 2 feet was surprisingly big. I always thought the robot ones looked a meter+ tall. Like R2D2 sized.
Optic500 not a million if he was right the most they do cost about as much as a Ferrari testrossa it’s about 200k each witch would be about 600k for all three
He was kind of presented in Mythbusters as the guy who does the "leftover" busting. Well, it wasn't HIS show I guess. Anyways, all of them seemed quite talented to be fair.
6:57 is a tragic shot. Only one of the people in the frame is still alive. Both Jessi and Grant died within a year of each other. Really heartbreaking.
This is so heartbreaking. I have the entire Mythbusters collection, and often watch episodes several times per week. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Grant.
The fact that Adam and so much of the build team worked together on star wars for a time before mythbusters is really interesting to me. It's one of those cool details we find out as adults I guess. Grant had such an influence on so much in my life. RIP GRANT it hurts that I'll never get to meet you at a con and thank you for all of your work 💔💔💔
@@anepicotter4595 If it rolled further it could have been toast for him. And considering the legs could angle and move, it's not an unreasonable thought.
I grew up watching the MythBusters I even have a few autographs from all the main hosts. When I think of my favorite show, I always think of the MythBusters. The show would’ve never been the same without Grant. I hope you rest easy brother.
It is very sad that Grant Imahara is gone. I pretty sure I've watched every episode of Myth Busters at least one time, and of all the great personalities that was on the show Grant was one of my favourites.
I watched Mythbusters when I was younger and hearing that Grant passed away just recently is a major letdown. RIP man. I'll never forget how you made Mythbusters a great show.
You know I really didn’t feel like 2020 was to bad of a year until now. Quite honestly I’ve felt that I could “manage” every tragic event of 2020, but this hits noticeably harder than anything that has happened yet. Grant had an amazing impact on me, growing my passion for electronics and electrical engineering. Out of every mythbusters cast member he was the one I empathized with most. He was a great man who inspired the next generation to engineer, make, and invent. You will be forever remembered and missed by me and the millions you inspired throughout your life. Good bye.
He was literally the most kind person. He didn't deserve this. No one does. My child hood memories involve Mythbusters. And battle bots. Grant. You. We're. My. Favorite.
@Justin Martone Haha, calling others cancer and only after that say you hope I'm joking.... It's actually the people like you who shout cancer all day long and don't use their brain. My original post was obviously a joke, but you saying that I'm a cancer of society wasn't a joke apparently.... So in the end, you're the cancer here.
@Justin Martone no no OP is right. Its a basic human social skill to recognize a joke. And no matter how many ways you try an explain it, the fact that you commented what you did shows a lot about you. A lot if things that i dont care to spell out for you, but you should seriously do some personal reflection.
@Justin Martone it was advice, old man. Take it or leave it, your choice, not mine. Now stop replying, and go do something with the precious little time you have left instead of trying to retain the precious little dignity you have left amongst people who couldnt care less
One of the coolest people ever! I was stuck on a project, reached out to Grant at what I am sure was a busy time in his life and actually got a reply. I totally appreciate his sincerity and the valuable information he has given. 😊👍🏻
RIP Grant. at 6:57, that's Jessi Combs, of "Extreme 4x4" fame on Spike TV. she also held the women's land speed record. she was tragically killed in another record attempt last summer =(
She had more cajones than the rest of the crew combined. Over 400mph multiple times. I wont speak ill of the dead but that spider video was not nearly fatal.
he didn't stop it with his hand. it weighs 600 lbs. if it had kept tipping it would have crushed his lower body and he would be stuck there without help until someone came into the workshop the next day.
@@TinyTyranitar95350 You must not understand how leverage works. There was not nearly that much weight being applied to him while the robot is teetering on one side.
@@hackdeez1075 eh... no. More like 30-60lbs of momentum. The 600lbs mass is clearly supported by the parts resting on the floor when he stopped the tumbling.
Rest easy Grant ♡ I grew up watching him on Mythbusters and followed him through adulthood along with many others from the show as it began to change and break off through the years. 49 is way too young.
I'm in my forties used to watch mythbusters in my 30s and thought Grant was in his 20s at the time. Turns out he's at least 5 or 6 years older than me!
Just got the news of his untimely passing, very bizarre and sad. The late late show was the only talk show I always wanted to watch and I remember being pleasantly surprised to find out my fellow yellow mythbuster rep Grant created Geoff. It always made me feel good growing up seeing a smart, engineering type dude getting mainstream media attention and being entertaining to boot. RIP Grant Imahara, your creations and influence shall live on.
R.I.P. Grant. I always enjoyed watching your work, and you had so much left to offer. We are greater for having known you and less for losing you too soon. Could 2020 PLEASE stop with the tragedy and turmoil? It’s just getting ruck-snucking ridiculous. 😠
I miss Geoff Peterson. As a long time Mythbusters fan I'm surprised some of the other machines Grant built on the show didn't at least injure him, especially the ones with swinging blades. RIP Jessi Combs.
I liked him the most on Myth Busters. He personified a humble nice guy you would enjoy a beer with. His death saddened me more than most of the others among the famous who died.
I remember one time he was making some sort of decapitation weapon based on an old kung fu movie. He built hidden blades in it that would swing out when he pulled the string back. He tested it on a table and had it WAY TOO CLOSE. I don't exactly remember how close it was but it could have easily gutted him. Glad you're still with us Grant lol. Keep making awesome/badass stuff but please be careful haha
Bringing pride and cementing the Asian stereotype But honestly tho, dude accomplished big things with knowledge and ingenuity, is a genius and also remarkably humble and respectful. A true role model
