Couple points to clear up. Mick Mars urged Tommy and Nicki to accept Vince as the lead singer, we didn't mean to infer that he was the sole reason Vince joined. Also, We didn't get into the whole Mick Mars birthday controversy. Mars real birthdate is probably 1951, but for years professionally he used 1955 as his birth year. Sorry about those points and we'll be sure to be more clear in the future!
He is also a RACIST. forgot to put that there. he clearly used the N word repeatedly and unashamedly in a MC Documentary in the 90s. Just like today, that word was not ok to use nor there is any justification.
@@ryplay5430 he's an egotistical self righteous 2 faced pos. There's a video of him talking shit about ppl like Corey Taylor being in multiple bands. Yet he's in the Crüe and Sixx am.
I was introduced to Motley Crue in Pensacola, FL at the age of 9, in 1990. Someone had spray painted "Motley Crue" on the outside of a gas station wall. My Granny took me to the mall not long after that. Bought a Motley Crue Cassette Tape. The rest is history.
Mick is the Clue. Without him, there wouldn’t be a Crue. I know his pain….I have RA, and if it’s anywhere like that pain, then it’s hell. On a lighter note: 2:22 look at that package!
Very interesting. I thought he was that way because he just stayed so engrossed with his guitar. I have lost 2 inches in height but that is due to Thoracic Spine Fractures at T2, T3, T6, T8, T9, and T10. So I understand his pain.
Mick Mars has to be one of the most talented kick ass guitar players even through his medical and physical pains that he has never let it beat him. We should all be thankful that we have had the chance to get to listen to the music of Motley Crue you all got me through high school with Dr Feelgood.
I think Mick Mars was the most cute of the band that little turn up nose and fabulous hair but was the only one who didn’t play on it with all the girls 😊❤
I don't even care much for Crew but I've always liked Mick more than the other ones. Saw them live a few times, last time in 2010 and Mick was the guy carrying the music. For his disease and restricted movement, he actually plays the songs how they sound on the record. A ton of these guys of that era could barely do it then and it's even worse now. I like Jake E Lee and aesthetically he may have fit the girly look of Motley Crew in 86' but Mars was interictal to their success. Would've been a dumb move with Jake probably leaving in a few albums anyway.
@@Benji1969 When it came to 80's music I was always an AC/DC/Motorhead guy who enjoyed all those thrash bands like early Metallica who just got up on stage in a shirt and ripped blue jeans and did their thing. I was never into the glam stuff, the gang vocals etc..but I have to admit, the one thing that always stuck out for me when it came to Motley Crue were the catchy riffs. Mick would often use tunings which made the guitar sound heavier/raunchier which wasn't all that common at the time. Even as a kid when I was asked if I liked Motley Crue I always responded with "I like a lot of their riffs."
I think you forgot he's a guitarist, a bloody good one at that, yes, and no dis to your comment but labelling him is ridiculous. He is a person, with skills. Don't stamp anyone's forehead with their flaws first please.
I knew MC in the early 80s when they were coming up. Mick was always a nice guy and also funny. One night upstairs at the Troubador in Hollywood, Mick gave me a stainless steel pick. He said "you wanna play metal you gotta' use metal". I still have it. That's just my two cents. Peace.
Not a Motley Crüe fan specifically, but a musician and appeciator of all the musics ... I also have Ankylosing Spondylitis and had to have my hips replaced in my 20s. Mars has all of my deepest respect and well wishes. This disease is awful... and a lot of days, just getting out of bed is a miracle and feat of super strength.
Right he didn't run around the stage and slammed his guitar around and swing around on things he just stood there and played amazing guitar and never gets the credit he deserves!
I met Mick Mars 20 years ago when he was in Charlotte for a Scifi convention and was totally what you would expect from him. Just a cool, nice laid back kind a guy that had no issues talking to fans and signing autographs. I hope he is fairing ok with his health issues of late.
Absolutely. Out of every single member of Motley Crue. Not much trash talk about Mick Mars is there. And things have certainly changed for Nikki Sixx as well. I love that guy to
He’s the secret weapon of MC. Beautiful, heavy chords and melodic solos that separated Crue from fly by night bands of the 80s. He elevated the songs to another level.
Mick Mars is one of the greatest guitar players ever and he definitely doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Such an amazing and awesome guy as well. He plays in pain a lot and he still goes on. That is a true Rock Star. Mick helped write the songs as well and just show’s just how much Mick is such a major talent. I know that he has to live with pain daily and that makes me so sad. Thank you Mick for all the amazing year’s you gave us and thank you for caring so much about your Fan’s.We love and adore you Mick.❤️❤️❤️
You are 100 per cent spot on. The man is remarkable and has helped me (the same age) cope with some of my crap just with his attitude. I feel small when griping about my health when I think of him. I have felt lesser when he left the building after shows. But he gives strength through example ! He cannot be defeated, only destroyed. You're right - THAT is a Rock Star *****
Saw them recently on their ‘22 stadium tour. He still fkn kills it at 67 years old. The camera operators were very careful to never show his face for more than a split second, instead zooming in on his guitar work up close. Living legend IMO
I respect Mick because, I’ve had spinal issues since I was 19 I’m 61 today and always in pain. His bravery to keep going through the pain is not an easy thing. My son was diagnosed with what Mick has. It’s heartbreaking to watch your child barely walking some days and in so much pain.
I have the same disease as him, lit started having symptoms at 26-27 same as him, 30 now, and I hear you brother it sucks, as hard as it is not to focus on it, you gotta find sht that makes you happy/ get you distracted, bc it can be miserable at times if you don’t
I love Mick Mars, greatest member of Motley Crue. He is such an underrated guitar player and never had the big rock star attitude. I can't wait for his solo album to finally come out.
He never had schizophrenia... He's been there, consistent, all in one place, all the time. May be he had a few may pills one day and some Nobel prize labelled it that way. You'll never see true schizophrenics having this kind of 40 years spanning career at the top.
Yea every cares too much about technical proficiency. He's one of the most unique players I've ever heard. You're right his feel, technique and tone separates him from heaps of other virtuosos. Yngwie Malmsteen actually bores me even though he's good. Much prefer players like Mick and Ritchie Blackmore.
I'm more of a Metallica and Megadeth kind of guy but Mars always stood out for me, a superb riff master. Finding out about the difficulties he has faced (and his age!!) makes me respect him even more.
I truly Admire Mick for continuing to play professionaly and continued touring. As a person who has scoliosis, severe arthritis and lives in pain every day for the past 20 years, he is remarkable. I have have had 2 spinal surgeries L5-S1, L-2,3,4. And both hips replaced. That is true pain. Keep going Mick!👍🥰
I recently have been dealing with a bulging cervical disc c5/c6. It's not even severe, just a 5mm bulge and the pain can be excruciating down my left shoulder and arm from 35 years of a laborious job.. My issue is nothing compared to Micks. I couldn't imagine that much pain and still powering through like him. Easily the most badass rockstar ever!!!! Utmost respect for him!
What a Legend! I love Mick Mars, He's the reason I started playing Guitar, I wish him and of course to the whole Crüe the Best! They are my Favourite Band! Thank you for Everything and Keep Rocking!!
I don’t think I agree because Nikki wrote the songs and they weren’t the same without Vince. So I think the heart and soul of Mötley Crüe is either Nikki or Vince
Wow!! Someone finally put out a a awesome video of one of my hero's. Mick just has that something about him and his playing. He's a one of a kind. And without him you have no Motley Crue. Name of sound.
He is wonderful.that illness he has is unimaginable .he must be in Absolute agony but never complains.he is a real humble guy who deserves the best.you rock Mick.👍❤️💚
I can relate to him in so many ways. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with ankylosing spondylitis and evidently I've had it for several years. I am already starting to hunch over. The pain is unbearable sometimes and I cannot get one doctor to give me anything for pain so I can see why he turned to drugs. There are some nights when I just lay there and cry until I'm exhausted and I finally fall asleep. I go two and three days without sleeping and finally pass out from exhaustion. I completely understand about the 'opiate crisis'but there are some times when it is just cruel to let someone hurt so bad that they contemplate suicide. Your quality of life is shit and you beg for God to please take you. I have stopped seeing doctors all together because when you try to get help (something for pain) they act like it's coming out of their own stash! My heart goes out to him and I wish him all the best. 🙂
Irene I have crippling RA and polymyalgia and I have had a hip replacement and two knee replacements I know what a painful struggle it is on a daily basis. I am due for the replacement of the other hip. Be strong and keep going and may GOD be with you. You are not alone.
i just tested positive for the HLA-B27 gene which means there is a high percentage i have a form of genetic SpA , as well as some other stuff. weighing my treatment options now before deciding in the coming weeks. What have you tried and what do you find best for you're issues? i am currently 24 years old , play guitar in a band all over the Chicago-land area & parts of the Midwest , for the past 6 months have been dealing with chronic pain & inflammation , i've slowly begun lifestyle changes to help this disease.
Doctors now are afraid to prescribe them. There's a stigma attached. A few years ago the DEA cracked down on prescribing, prescribers, and pharmacists. I've been on and off them for 20 years myself. If you find a pain management doctor you can trust with your well being, and they can trust you, it's an honest deal you have to make with them. I actually prefer cortisone shots and Prednisone over opiates. But yes there are days to weeks at a time I need pain meds 24/7. But can go just as long not needing anything. Best of luck to you 💜
Always had huge respect for Mick. Legend! He wrote some great riffs...........and had to put up with the other three......deserves a medal for that!! Wish they'd come to Ireland.
Mick is definitely the best slide solo guitarist I have ever seen!!! Can't wait for his album. He said recently that he is taking his time on making this one for good reason. It will be epic!
I, myself being a fan of Motley Crue since day #1 appreciate this. Mick was finally spoke about as a REAL MUSICIAN, AND HUMAN BEING with REAL problems. Not just. "that short, quiet, strange old dude from Motley Crue. And especially that schizophrenia is a real problem that anyone could have (I do). But you can overcome it.
I have AS and Psoriatic Arthritis, was diagnosed in my 20's......it's a life sentence of constant pain,(which itself fucks with your head). I've been a life long musician and sadly as I approach my 60's playing is getting less and less likely. Mick is an inspiration for those of us who suffer a chronic debilitating illness. God bless him......
I have RA, PSA and Fibromyalgia. I have been a,muscian since I was 6 and am mid 50s now. I have nothing but, respect for this man doing what he does with his conditions. I know the pain all too well. I have played piano all my life but for the past few years it's become less and less. It does mess with your head, and these diseases are life sentences. So bless him and you. Hang tough fellow warrior!
I have had AS problems for 50 years since I was 19.They tell ya it will burn out in your 50's but they don't tell ya that it means inflammation just burns out not all the pain and fused up joints. I manage but it requires that you get up and excercise every fucking miserable day and then find good in life where you can.
Musically Mick Mars is the backbone of Motley Crue < then Nikki for writing good songs, Tommy is good at keeping a groove with showmanship , Vince is a bit of a train wreck when it comes to delivering lyrics these days. Am I wrong?
Mick Mars is truly one of the world's best guitarist ever. His talent is just so incredible and I bet he uses whatever he can to make things so awesome. He would be someone that I would love to meet. He is just so talented. Can't wait to hear the new album when it comes out.
Hes my cousin. Never met him. I was told about his family through my my.late grandmother that raised me when I started playing guitar at 8 years old he's a legend.
Mick is the reason I picked up the guitar back in 1983. He is my main influence. I've been a Crue fan since Too Fast For Love was released. Mick is an amazing guitarist and a visionary musician. Long live Mick Mars!!!
@@roosterj2599 I too have been a big fan of Crue since Too Fast For Love and I also got to see them in concert. If Mick is your influence then you must be able to play a mean guitar 🎸 I just really hate that Mick has to deal with so much pain from his back. I know all about back pain and I’ve had 3 back surgeries and I still have pain and discomfort. I give him all the credit in the world for getting up on that stage night after night and still kicking ass while in pain.
Mick Mars, one of the MOST underrated guitarist ever!... He really deserver a signature guitar series (B.C. Rich or a Gibson). He was also one of my reasons to buy a B.C. Rich
I didn't know that Jake e Lee. Would have been bad ass in this band. Jakes the man i dont think nikkis ego. Could have handled. It. Bark at the moon. Need I say more. 👍
Mick Mars is the man that playes the rifs to the soundtrack of my life .I have been to 45 or so live Crue show's starting back in 85 and I am a motley fan for life and Mick is the man .I don't know how else to express the thanks I have for him holding this bunch together throughout the years he is the driving force behind motley Crue .so thank you Mick Mars for a life time of killer rock riffs and great music you are the man
Such an underrated guitar player . He’s honestly in my top 3 . Even though Nikki wrote great songs and Tommy is a great drummer . Mick really carried that band instrumentally .
I saw Motley several times, most memorable was in 1985 for Theater of Pain in Kalamazoo Michigan, I was 19 and loaded when Mick decided to toss his slide out to the audience, I was 6 ft at the time and jumped as high as I could with my hand outstretched I felt it hit my palm I came down opened my hand and screamed. It was surreal to this kid made me smile then and now, I held it up and still remember Mick pointing his finger and nod towards me😉 I still have it to this day. Wish there was some way he could sign it. Mick you're the BEST take care my friend. ✌️
Sorry to hear. And I very much agree with you. My Dad has it as well and he wants to do everyday things but his body and back just say no bro I hope you did not recieve it, as it can very much be hereditary
Mick Mars made Mötley Crüe, so why the f_ck would anyone want to end the band by axing him? Mick is an incredible guitarist and is no slouch when it comes to working. There are so many guitarists playing live today all because of his influence. So, Mick, you go rock on with your bad self brother!!!
I just found out through this video that Mick Mars and I were born on the same day, the same year! Go "Double Nickels" - 1955! I've always been drawn to his mind-bending guitar skills. Be well, Mick, and a belated happy birthday!
I wonder why the rest of the band wanted to get rid of Mick once the band started gaining popularity?? It probably has everything to do with looks. They wanted another young, attractive dude in the band. That's the only thing I can think of because Mick is an amazing guitarist and a cool guy.
Ankylosing spondylitis is a bitch... I've been living with it for some 30 years and I'm not yet 50... and the pain and spinal distortion is a nightmare... I'm almost 4 inches shorter now than I was when I was 18...
Mick is the real deal! No pun intended 😉 A true rock star is someone like him that pushes through the pain and perseveres! HUGE respect. Saw him kill it on tour this summer and stood watching in awe how this guy just gets up there and does it again tour after tour. Man it must be hard. I think he gave his all and no one could or should have any complaint against him!!!
My best friend that I grew up with is best friends with Mick’s daughter. They had tickets to go see Motley Crue and even had back stage tickets. Well the concert was canceled because of the virus.
Mick Mars is a legend in so many ways, but to live in pain for decades and to get up on stage every night when touring and giving it 100% knowing that he only has 50% in the tank. He never goes on and on about his health issues as he is a gentle man and a man of pride.
Mick Mars to me, is the best guitarist out there. His riffs are legendary. As alot of comments have said, without him there is no Motley Crue. They are spot on!
That guy is the nearest thing I've ever seen to indestructible. His medical issues are miserable rotten shit yet he trucks onward as an inspiration to those of us the same age who suffer from our own issues.
Thanks for all the Music and helping us through life with it! Without sounding corny..We love you Mick! Seen your first and what I thought was your farewell show, but thank god it looks like you got more coming for us!!
Mick Mars is THE pioneer of the Sleaze Metal sound. Jake E. Lee may have some flashy licks, but Motley Crue never would have worked without Mick. He IS the sound of MC.
I always loved Mick just for his ready to party style personality and even moreso for his brutal guitar riffs especially the early stuff off too fast for love 🤟
@@gorgoroth6072 I’d say it would go Tommy, Nikki, Vince, Mick I put Nikki ahead of Vince cuz he was the main character in “Dirt” and he has a radio show…Vince just gets fatter.
I also think the Corabi album is their best album musically because most of the intricate guitar parts are played by Corabi. In my opinion Mick only played good intelligible licks on Dr.Feelgood because of BOB Rock's influence and demand: the producer that used to polish turds into gold throughout the 90's. I'm not saying Mick can't play. But where are the memorable solos from this band ? None, totally non-existant. Plant, Slash, Dimebag, Hemmet, Rhoads (the list goes on and on) all have memorable solos. Mick has riffs... very basic riffs and he plays them like a precise well oiled machine though. All of his solos are not memorable or even could be considered anything above scales with a bunch of unusual whammy bar noise thrown in. Don't get me wrong, I love the crew for what they are. Mick has never been a great guitar player though. None of the member in the band are outstanding at what they do. Good marketing, good looks, a knack for knowing the next trend. how to dress for the next album and perseverance. A better Kiss ? No great musicians in that band though. Not even Tommy Lee, he can't play anything that isn't his own thing.
