Weezer has been around since the early 1990s, and they’ve never been afraid to do their own thing since then. They know they might not look or even sound like a traditional rock band, but their wide variety of unique music has endeared them to fans and kept their career afloat. @@Abby-dc6is it's not sexism. Rivers had just gone through an intense surgery on his leg and was depressed due to the pain it cause him. He locked himself away for over a year and pinkerton's lyrics are a product of his mindset at the time. This was a man in his prime unable to do anything, meet women, rock out etc. Pinkerton isn't sexist, it's a deep exploration into a broken man's mind

2:50 I like how they didn't insult the Monkees like most would, they just mentioned that the Monkees were thought of as manufactured (they were, but they gained complete control by "Headquarters", their 3rd album). Also, this comparison between Weezer and the Monkees is more apt than one may think. Rivers went to E. O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT, the same high school that Monkee Peter Tork went to. Plus, Rivers wrote a song for the Monkees 2016 album, and said that they were an influence and inspiration to him in the notes for it.

Wow, I’ve been a Weezer fan since the 90’s, but you just taught me something I didn’t know. I am from Willimantic, CT and my mom worked at E.O. Smith! I had no idea Rivers ever lived in the area. I did know about Peter Tork, because incidentally, my mom met him before the Monkees blew up and had a huge crush on him, and then met him again a few years later when they were on tour and he recognized her from Storrs.

I remember reading a comment on some weeper video about 9 years ago that said something like: “I like to pretend that the real Weezer died in a plane crash in 1996 after Pinkerton and the only way you can see whatever it is that’s pretending to be them now is through a special pair of sunglasses.” I thought that was hilarious. Because the drop off after that album has been major. I did like Everything Will Be Alright In The End though.

In what world is Pinkerton offensive and sexist? Even in anything done after that, the lyrics are admitting fault and failure with women, not blaming them. Why does everything need to be ruined with "allegations?" So you can't write about an ex-girlfriend because it's "sexist?" That is suppression.
