Brother, This was a great introduction to your future ILBE videos! I will be eagerly awaiting each one of them! It appears you have some excellent surplus stores in your neck of the palmetto. I lived in Tampa, Plant City, and Durant when I was a kid. Have great memories of my time there. The way it looks to me is, you were supposed to own one of these fine packs! Thank you very much for the shout-out! I was surprised and I am grateful! God Bless You And Yours, My Friend!!!
I have had the ILBE pack system for several years and I have found out how durable this pack is, not much it can't handle. One of the best things I like about the ILBE main pack is all the webbing that comes on it, you can attach so many different pouches to personalize your pack to your specific needs. The radio pouch that came with my pack system has been very handy, I sewed up the openings at the bottom and use it for my personal equipment such as deodorant, tooth brush, and tooth paste. Back in the day I was able to pick up the main pack system for $83.00 and a family member had a couple of the assault packs laying around and gave me one of them, one of my best investments by far. I would highly recommend this pack to anyone who is looking for a durable and flexible pack system, with the only down side being that the durability and flexibility comes at the expense of added weight. This pack system is heavier than most other packs of its size, so be sure and take this into account when deciding if this pack is for you.
The reason for that top slilder vs a standard buckle is: the top strap is a load failsafe when your rig is getting tossed all over fk-all. If pack lands tits up on an airfield...that pullstrap will retain load vs a buckle that my pop open. (Not withstanding the pull buckle actually breaking.) Hope that helps someone
You may have a military pack addiction but the cost is way less than what other folks spend on golf memberships & equipment or expensive vacations. Hope you continue to have fun at the surplus store and also have a really good 2022.
You're not the only one who contemplates over a piece of gear and then sees it as a sign when it's still there to then actually make the purchase.. :D that is one slick pack system, keep em coming RM!
I loved the ILBE and was pissed when we switched to the FILBE, I went and bought an ALICE and used that instead. Then learned to use the FILBE and realized it was better than the ILBE but still loved the ILBE
Got a older used FILBE the brown one. Some say uncomfortable but gosh fits me like a glove. Thanks again for all the effort you put into these. Gray from PA Applachians
Good Deals RM. Neat set up. That internal divider would be looking for fastek buckles for quick installation. Really good video looking forward to rest of series. Happy New Year. Best
I don't know...it has a broken buckle...As a child I use to go the the grimy surplus store and dig around...I had a collection from ww2 and I loved digging at the surplus store. When I joined the marines the first night we had to grab a duffle bag from a pile. I like stopped and started looking like I was going to pick one out when I got yelled at for the first time in boot camp.
Gr8 pack, I own the assault and main Gen. 2 pack. I removed about a pound of what for me was unnecessary materials. My condor hydration pouch goes inside along the top backside. I know leaks, I use a waterproof usgi laundry bag (it's light)for anything that might get wet. This pack is big enuff, that I don't put anything on the outside but my tent poles, Skrama knife, efak and water bottle outside, this for a winter (here in Fl.) loadout. To replace this pack I would have to spend megabucks to get something comparable. The assault pack is an awesome day pack or single (summer) overnight pack. I hope you enjoy urs as much I love mine. Happy Trails.
Dont forget one of the reasons the marines phased it out was problems with wearing it with body armor. They didnt really fix it with the New FILBE. It is rectified with a Mystery Ranch Mystery Cinch which should work with any rucksack.
I have both the recon ruck, and I have the recon assault pack... And the regular ILBE and assault pack. I prefer the recon to the regular, but I prefer both to the other packs. Very comfortable ruck. Your lid still has the middle strap in the back. That's usually either missing or cut off. It can connect to the female buckle in the middle of the ruck near the top. I am missing the hydration system for mine too. IMO the assault pack was designed incorrectly. The compression straps should all run the same direction to better attack tot he main ruck. Love this ruck, Hope you love it too.
@@renaissancemarinetv3536 I may do that. The Recon ruck is the better designed of the 3-4 ILBEs out there, and the assault pack is better in some ways as well.
I got lucky and got a recon main pack with a radio pouch and 2 sustainable pouches all new for $125.00. I already had the recon corpsman assault pack. I have been offered a $1000.00 for it but I said no.
Just bought a complete main pack with the assault pack + the legitimate hydration bladder and its carrier. Bit pricey, but even then these things are becoming so rare that I can turn it around for over double what I paid. That is, if I don't take a liking to it first. It's going to compete with my molle II ruck.
I recently just got the whole set. Somehow one of these packs ended up in a second hand store here in Australia! I picked up the complete set for $100 AUS.. I wonder how it got here? And just what kinds of things it’s been through.
One guy on YT said the Mystery Ranch made dense foam bolsters for the ILBE, so it would be compatible with body armor. Where can I find those bolsters?
Know this is older video but looking for a.larger pack and I know you're intimately familiar with 782 gear. Can you use this pack with it. My medium MOLLE 2 does but I need more volume and my old.large Alice is getting tired. Thanks.
the ILBE is more of what is known in the civilian world as an expedition pack than the alice or molle2. they are relatively short compared to the ILBE and more accodating of deuce gear. so i dont think the ILBE would work as well with your h harness. my opinion.
