According to ESPN's Miguel Delaney, The USMNT has reached out to Jurgen Klopp to test the waters about any possible interest in the US Men's National Team coaching job. Also, why are so many media pundits coming out to defend Berhalter?

I am so thankful for you both! I got so mad at the re hire of Berthalter that I boycotted USMNT for a year and made the following statement: "Wait until Copa America and watch how we do and then you'll be ready to fire Gregg Berhalter." By no means do I want USMNT to do badly as I have been following them for almost 30 years. However, the writing was on the wall! Berthalter couldn't set up the team for success, period! I am actually sad that I was proven right because that means the problem isn't just with the coach but the entire U.S. Soccer Federation. On top that, Dan Garber is on the board and pushes to have a MLS coach and as many MLS players that is possible. This is a contradiction and needs to be fixed, but I am slowly losing any faith in USSF. We as fans have to keep pushing for the federation to cut the nepotism, identify the real problems so they can be fixed and get the right people in the best positions.

They keep saying “younger” generation but the older one who had to watch us punch above our weight for years, while having little to no talent is in the same boat. Why should I be happy with mediocre when we finally have more? Yet our federation can’t hire a coach with an effective scheme for us. Talking about the glory days is for older fans who actually achieved results. We never have! The past teams just got “A” for effort because of low expectation’s. Sure we clap for the idiot who tried hard and gets modest results but universally people hate wasted talent. No, we still aren’t world beaters but we should and can aspire to more now.

Pete, Brandon really doesn't present himself as am expert. He presents himself as a fan who came to the game later in life. He's not just an actor on the show, he is one of the creators based on falling in love with the game while living in Holland for 5 years. That doesn't make him an expert but it does make him a fan who is fairly representative of the new enthusiastic "casuals". Is it annoying when celebrities are given a voice greater than some long term die hards, yes. But that is a problem with American culture not just US soccer culture. I agree with 99% of both your takes, but think you get too caught up with what other pundits are saying. Thanks for leading the boycott sponsors movement from the drop. It worked!

Pep requires players that are incredibly technically gifted and he needs a really skilled number 10. We don’t really have any one who fits those criteria. He also needs a lot of time with his players to instill his system. None of that would be ideal for a team that only trains together a couple times a year. I just don’t see him ever being a great international manager.

At some point we have to talk about CONCACAF World Cup qualifying moving forward. It's a non-issue this cycle, but for 2030 and on, qualifying is essentially dead in this confederation. We'd qualify with a D squad. This means the only meaningful games we'll have will be at the World Cup. And whichever Copas we can get invited to. That's not enough to help raise our standard of play, nor is it enough to hold casual fans' attention. It's going to slow the growth of the sport in this country.

Ya know if we cannot get anyone international with experience we do have a guy that's been here before, knows the program, knows our young guys that are now the team, and has a track record at the international level. He also lives in SoCal and thinks we should be pressing to make a semi final. He also got fired when our player pool went to crap and didn't get to have the reigns of the young players he thought would come up and get us to the semi-finals. Before an MLS option Klinsmann would be the slam dunk. In hindsight we were dumb to sack him. And I was one of the people that wanted to before.

I simply can’t buy this notion that teams in the past had better players. They had different type of players. They had men who were willing to over achieve and we always had a keeper to save our behinds (vs Spain 2009 for example). We had players who thrived in transition. BUT, they were no better than our current roster and I’d argue we have more depth than ever. But it’s a moot point. Our Olympic roster should be able to beat Panama. We failed to get out of a group with Bolivia and Panama. Our players individually have progressed at the club level since the WC. Many players getting in better contracts in teams getting more playing time. Yet they fail to show up or play consistently poorly for the national team. That points to culture, focus, preparation, tactical play and attitude. All aspects affected by coaching. Yes players need to be held accountable. Again….a coach has to do that! But talent is not really the issue here!

@@mackdeen7021 I think it’s all of the above. The players are soft, Gregg was awful, and federation is a mess, but the players are also extremely overrated.

@@mackdeen7021who has progressed? Weston is fat and hardly plays, Flo is having a down year, Gio only plays for the USMNT, he hardly touches the pitch for club…the only player that “progressed” was Pulisic.

It was already reported he said no before you made this video. The fact that you even thought he would accept this job somewhat disqualifies the legitimacy of your channel haha. Anyone who knows or understands world football could have bet their house that Klopp would never, ever, ever, accept this job. Why would he go from Anfield and winning Champions Leagues to coaching sub-par players in Trinidad & Tobago?!? Why in Gods green earth would he go from making 10x what Berhalter was making to making significantly less, coaching significantly less, for significantly less potential?!? HAHA. So stupid. Loew, Klopp, Ancelotti, Zidane, Xavi, or name your preferred national team manager and just say, yeah, that won't happen. No one outside this country is probably going to take the job. So buckle up for more disappointment but until we have players that are worth coaching will we- not find a coach who is worth having.

Julen Lopetegui wanted the job before Derphalter was hired. I think we can attract a coach on his level. Not top shelf, perhaps, but highly competent. David Wagner and Pellegrino Matarazzo are American citizens and would likely answer the call. Poch might be possible as well.

Why? To build his brand in the wealthiest market in the world. Like Pele, Beckham and Messi.
@EveryHappening

@@rmzweig3972 . Seriously… Klopp needs to build his brand. What exactly is the brand of a coach!? I don’t remember Bellichick commercials while he was coaching New England! That is honestly an incredibly naive position to take where there are zero instances to show that this is even in the universe of possibility! Coaches don’t have brands like players. A brand generates added marketing dollars because the person is someone kids want to look up to and emulate… or they have a good face! What child is watching a team and rather than wanting to emulate Bellingham, they want to be Southgate haha. Guardiola who is the best coach in the world regardless of anyone’s opinion can’t generate marketing dollars for Man City other than the revenue raised for club sponsorship. Because you think Messi coming to the states opens up a $150 million dollar opportunity by bursting into a new market that this somehow pertains to Klopp or any coach for that matter?

@@rmzweig3972 Build his brand? You are talking about a Premier Leauge/UCL winner. Klopp would be building our brand, not the other way round. It's dumb takes like this that make me realize American fans deserve mediocrity.

You right, Ben Olsen is a failure in DC United where he was a coach for 10 years and the reason for me not to follow DC United because this team now is a disappointment. I hope we go back to the glory of the 90s and early 20s Please let’s get a coach from another country with experience.
