Being I have hyperthyroid auto immune disease. I'm convinced since I growing up in a physical abusive home ( being attacked being hit a lot in the ear and head with lumps, and thrown into whatever, it has played a major role in my hyperthyroidism as stress built over 14 years . So its very interesting to hear about this Vargus Nerve. I am certain it has played a seasons worth itself bc of the condition I was raised in with very high cortisol levels at a very early age unable to find any protection. Thanks Dr. This discovery may lead to a beginning road to recovery for me.
I grew up with a compressed brain stem, and it makes total sense that I grew up so sick and ultimately disabled by illness by adulthood. Now with the pressure off, my body is healing so much and I feel like a different person.
Cheers to you and your newfound healing. I hope you heal 110% and feel better each day as you go. You will have the contrast to enjoy and appreciate life in ways that few others do. Congrats!
@New Hologram - what tests did u go through that gave the diagnosis of compressed brain stem? And what treatment helped take the pressure off? I'm curious to know . I have a feeling that I'm experiencing some of this
If you download the free Insight Timer app on your phone, there are simple vagus nerve mediations you can learn to do. Very simple and effective to active the area in the back of throat he mentions. Or just google vagus nerve meditations! Hope that helps :)
I had MVD on cranial nerves 5,7,9, and 10 for trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and geniculate neuralgia. I know each of the nerves were damaged from blood vessels and arteries, plus going through the process of removing the blood vessels. I have been in constant anxiety mode since the disease started in 2011, and even after surgery. So many times I feel like I don't even have anything stressful enough in my life to justify the amount of anxiety my body feels. I'm curious if my vagus nerve can come back from this damage.
Julie, It sounds like you have been through a lot. One of the techniques you can use to measure the activity of your vagus nerve indirectly is through heart rate variability. Even just 10 years ago, heart rate variability could only be measured in a laboratory setting, and the machines costs thousands of dollars. With advances in technology, you can actually measure HRV today via the use of smart phones and a blue tooth monitor, for the cost of like $50. HRV can be used to monitor if a type of therapy is working from a vagus nerve perspective. Whether it be yoga, breathing, exercise, therapy, diet, laughing, taking time for yourself, auricular therapy, vagal stim, anyone of these can work for some and others not so much, and you can use HRV to see if youre on the right track. In general, the lower your HRV, the more stress the individual is under and the less the vagus nerve is firing.Without making this post into a full blown research article I would encourage you to google search "Heart Rate Variability and Vagus Nerve" and see what comes up! Hopefully you can use this as a spring board into your own research. Please reach out to us if you have further questions: ibrainandbody.com/contact/
I am not in the area but wondering if you can explain more about stimulating the vagus nerve through the inner ear. Is this something a chiropractor could do? Acupuncturist? Do you have any links that can explain this technique and how to find a practitioner who knows how to do it? Thanks!
Emily, although stimulating the vagus nerve via the ear has very low risk. It is still considered experimental, and I would not recommend doing it on your own because of the ties the vagus nerve has to the heart. Most chiropractors and acupuncturists would not know what you are talking about. You will have better luck seeking out a chiropractic neurologist here: acnb.org/DoctorLocator.aspx When it comes to research I would recommend using the term "Transcutaneous vagal nerve stimulation" or googling "tVNS." Most studies seem to use an area of the external ear called the "tragus" or the "concha" of the ear. There is more and more research coming out every week about the beneficial impact the vagus nerve has for our health.
I have more recently found this rife frequency and love it more than the binaural beats. I can actually feel this working. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mq5rvQzhn3U.html
Hi, thank you for the very informative video. What and where is the study referenced in the video description? The one where activation of the vagus nerve stopped lupus, etc etc. ? Thanks
Vindra, Thank you for your response! It has been a while since I have read the specific study I mentioned in the video. Fortunately, more and more research is coming out on the plausibility of Vagal Nerve stimulation for any type of inflammatory disease including connective tissue autoimmunities like Lupus, RA, etc. Just a quick literature search and I was able to find these: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28400502 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27382171 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25481554 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27059884 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21261967 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25039084 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25110981 www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1521694214000977
I have read some studies showing ppl with psoriasis have sympathetic dysfunction. So stimulating vagus nerve will only activate parasympathetic for some time right coz the main dysfunction occurs in sympathetic? We will hv to find out the sympathetic dysfunction to fully cure a person?
I have just got back into lifting weights again after 4 years. Bench press. Etc. Also have been doing planks for my core. These exercises have been putting pressure on my shoulders,,,, I've been having heart palpitations for about a week and a half,,,, mainly at night. But they come on strong when I'm resting. Lying down. Do u think I've irritated the vagus nerve,,, I've had anxiety my whole life and have experience heart palpitations,, but not like the past week and a half.
The vagus nerve also plays a role in your bowel movements. I suffered with heart palpitations all my life and have found when I'm constipated or bloated is when I have the palpitations (made worse lying down) Stay hydrated, stay regular with your bowel movements. Magnesium Citrate helps a lot when I was having them. I Hope's this helps?
marc mac intyre all the problems that plague you will be helped by a chiropractor .stop wandering around.!! use it and be happy to have discovered it !! many people don't want you to know what is good for you .they live from the lies they spread around them !! .it gives them certain advantages . only real personal experience will convince you for ever ! they are so many ignorant people around !! listen only to yourself !! and think think think ..to understand life .
Hi. I love your channel. I’m in Irvine ca and I can’t find doctors like you. I have lupus and also mycotoxins illnesses from mold. I have had multiple brain injuries and talked to some doctors, of course not here on you tube about mast cell activation syndrome. It’s been so bad it’s nearly killed me a few times. My entire body went from losing weight so rapidly to 87 pounds then in a month gained 25 in inflammation. I haven’t been able to eat solid foods for over a year. I had everything in remission but got exposed again and for a long time. So it’s been so horrible. If I didn’t have my functional medicine education, I would be dead. Even the functional doctors here , was all about money and not one mentioned the vagus nerve. Because I get seizures too. All you amazing doctors are far away. 🥲
I dicovered recent about the vagas nerve. I saw on you tube exercise with the neck so bloodflow better works. I slept very well. Since 3 years hypothyoroid...after a trauma. Hashimoto. Attacks your own cells. Maybe it had to do with that trauma then. I investigate this more. Maybe thats the reason. Stomachproblrms. I use apple cider vinegar in water. That helps
I've been dealing what seems to be Benign Fasciculation Syndrome and I believe it's effecting my Vagus Nerve. I now have GERD, Indigestion, speech and voice tremors. Would the vagus nerve give those symptoms if it were to shut off? I have exteme anxiety from all of this. I have seen a Neurologist and confirmed 99% it's not ALS. Thanks!
Hello, ive had sinus issues and back to back ear infections for three yrs now. Along with that, seeing black dots, nausea, breathing issues, strange arrythmia-like occurances with negative ekg, food and environmental intolerances, sleep disturbances, strong dizziness (particulary when temps are too high/low), tremors, memory issues, and wanting to faint after eating. Before 3 yrs ago, i was fine! I cant help but to think that the sinus or ear infections were somehow affecting the vagus nerve. Some of the symptoms are sinus infection related, but the others are puzzling such as the wanting to faint. This happens in the shower also. My question is..can the ethmoid sinuses be pressing on the vagal nerve when they are inflamed? Does the vagal nerve pass by the sinuses?
Debbie mac laine Perez why make it so complicated ! why a mess of it ?? get simple and satisfied !! just use chiropractic and you will stop to worry about your health .and don't forget also to put your mind in order .that means keep only constructive and positive and happy thoughts in your mind .don't give attention to negative thoughts then they will disappear by not being fed anymore !!!
I had tubes put in my ears as a child and they were in there for over 3 years. It was a very unpleasant experience and I've developed medical issues down the road. Does that effect vagus nerve?
i was going to ask a question re. the best way to stimulate the vagus nerve but it seems you are only in it for the bucks and want to drag people in for consultations etc rather than having a genuine interest in helping peopole with problems........so many unanswered questions posted..
You can reduce inflammation by waking barefoot on the ground like dirt, sand and grass free of chemicals, it’s called Earthing or grounding, go check Earthing the movie on RU-vid
Hello I have major ringing in my ear caused from a loud drill at work for hours . I now cant sleep at night my stomach doesnt seem to give my brain a signal if its full hence the reason why i cant sleep like how i used to . please help as this changed my life.. now i dont know if this was also caused from tea this one time i had it and i felt fatigueness up to my brain in matters . i am not sure what i might have but i need serious help. I know this has to do with vagus nerve
It sounds very much as if it has to do with the autonomic nervous system. The vagus nerve is part of the parasympathetic branch(rest and digest), while the sympathetic branch pertains to activation and stimulation. Any trauma, or series of trauma, whether physical, infectious, or emotional(and even temperature or sound), can alter the way the nervous system communicates. While one can dislocate a shoulder, popping it out of place, even without any permanent damage to the shoulder, it sounds like you have done something similar to the nervous system. I did the same to myself. There is a great resource for this called Anxiety Centre. Bear with me as to why I am leading you there vs somewhere regarding central sensitization disorders, tinnitus, gastroenterology, or the limbic system of the brain. The autonomic nervous system is the root of either anxiety or relaxation, or in other words, stimulation(disrepair) vs relaxation(repair). Even if you do not experience anxiety, that website is profound in how it approaches healing, dealing repeatedly with ringing in the ears, as well as a variety of other symptoms. Healing from this will take some time, and it will slide back gradually like a dimmer switch, or continuum. The ringing should get less severe, then less frequent and less severe, and then it should stop. If you've had testing done to make sure you did not damage your ear, and everything else is clear, look into that website and also into the autonomic nervous system. If you stick with the healing for a good duration of time(usually several months to a few years), you should be free of symptoms, or very close to, and may very well notice better overall physical, cognitive, and emotional wellbeing. I'm sure you have endured the injury and very much hope you to get well again. Keep at it and don't give up. Each time you feel frustrated by the symptoms, work on dissolving the frustration itself, as that will take stress off of the nervous system, getting you out of the stress response and into the relaxation response where the vagus nerve begins to build tone and strengthen in order to assist you on a more ongoing basis.
When patients comes with this issues.... I thrust his neck with a towel under his cervical.... 2 or 3 time soft medium and very deep!! Always works so nice.... they don come to me ever with that problem...
