The Valley of Gwangi (1969) Official Trailer - Dinosaur Western Movie HD
Cowboy James Franciscus seeks fame and fortune by capturing a Tyrannosaurus Rex living in the Forbidden Valley and putting it in a Mexican circus. When I was 9 years old, this was one of the holy grails of movies for us kids, I still watch it every now and then, just to recapture some of the good feelings I had when I was laying on my folks living room floor and saw it for the first time in the early 70's.

Fantastic western from 1969. They entered the Forbidden Valley, full of miracles and surprises, they caught something amazing that should have been left in that valley. The ominous Gypsy woman prophesied evil to them, but they did not listen to her. Evil will soon follow. Fame and money often encounter obstacles and are not realized when one begins to touch the laws of nature. Starring James Franciscus, Gila Golan, Freda Jackson, Laurence Naismith and others. Let’s embark on an adventure with cowboys, into one forbidden world!

Looking back on all the dinosaur movies I saw as a kid, this particular Dino really didn't look half bad. It was more upright than we now know they were, but the proportions were pretty good and the movement was among the best of stop motion. As a matter of fact, the cowboys' silly outfits were more unrealistic than the dinosaurs were!

Of course I love Ray Harryhausen’s stop-motion. but I also love this mix of amazing cast. Chalk it up to (like we see in today’s film) A producer or Director liking to work with certain actors. We have James Franciscus from planet of the apes, Richard Carlson from it came from outer space, Freda Jackson from Clash of the Titans, and Lawrence Naismith from Jason and the Argonauts. Dinosaurs and Cowboys. Who wouldn’t love this?

Yeah we now know the snake-like movements of the dinosaur's tail was actually impossible for them, but who cares. The film was still entertaining as hell. Kinda surprised they haven't tried to remake this one. If the Jurassic & King Kong movies did well, there's no reason why this one can't be a success as well. They could always set it in the modern world if they aren't comfortable with its Western theme.

This thin , almost risible tale , is but a mounting for Ray Harryhausen's celebrated special effects The lassoing of the terrified monster took Harryhausen 5 months to film , blending the live action shots of the riders to the stop - motion footage of the roped Gwangi and is one of his most successful animation effects . The humans are an exceedingly dull lot , losing out to the latex creations in the acting honours !
