I've loved Gwangi since I saw him as a small boy, the film really impacted on my young mind. One of the great joys of being a parent has been sharing Ray's creations with my children and seeing the same wonder in them that I had (still have!)!
I've been a "Valley of Gwangi" maniac ever since I saw the movie in the early 70s, I've got the coloring book & puzzle and even the press book and I also have an original movie poster signed by Ray Harryhausen as well. I noticed you are referring Gwangi as a T Rex but I'm pretty sure he was an Allosaurus and not a T Rex.
I agree, even back in the 1970's T rex only had two fingers on each hand, but before that there was a full size skeleton displayed, in New York with three fingers. This photo appeared in many books.
Another fantastic figure! Love that snarl. The scene you talked about where they try to corral the Gwangi with the horses and rope is in my opinion Ray's best effect. So well executed and damn near seamless.
Terrific video. What a lovely model. I met Ray a couple of times at signings and he was so lovely. I have several books about his work and I am so proud to have met this greatly loved man.
So amazing and how these creations of Ray's stand the test of times. Text book stuff. The first time seeing this was on a Sci-Fi Saturday afternoon at around 12pm when I was pre-teen. So mesmerizing. O'Brien and Harryhausen are mentioned in the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum in Los Angeles ,CA. , along with the works of Terminator 2 , The Abyss , Avatar and Jurassic Park display. Some early concept art is shown including the giant bear armored with crystals over it's body , if I'm not mistaken. The small feature about them in the museum deserves to be a much larger than just a few 10 x 12 digital panels of reading and art work.
I absolutely love the valley of Gwangi , this is maybe Ray Haryhausen’s greatest dinosaur he’s ever created! This figure is such a masterpiece along with the film!
@@WalshBros Well John I’m trying to get more movie reactors on RU-vid to look at Ray’s work! So far there’s only been two, but I’m hoping they’ll be more!
This is a great model, out of all the models I saw in the development stage, this is the one I was most interested to see the finished result, and it's looks fantastic. A bit gutted that the delux version didn't come with a cowboy on a horse, but none the less it still makes a impressive model.
6:08 Hark! I think I hear something in the background. Oh wait, I watched this classic Science Fiction Dinosaur Movie. I think it was the sound of a horned Dinosaur that was seen in the movie. It was… a Styracosaurus.
Nobody, not even today's SFX touches the brilliance of Ray Harryhausen. They have it so easy that there's no need to experiment or be creative with CGI hence there's no ..... I can't come up with a word to describe the DIFFERENCE between Harryhausen's work & Jurassic Park (not saying I didn't like JP, I enjoyed it). But what Mr. Harryhausen did was better.
@@WalshBros subscribed. I've been a fan of Ray Harryhausens work ever since I first saw The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad on tv at the tender age of 4. There was just something about Ray's creatures in the way they looked and moved that really captured my imagination as a child
Its a shame Arthur Hayward doesn't get a mention, the guy who actually sculpted the original model. I just got the B.C. Allosaurus and nothing on the box to indicate its Haywards sculpt. It's not to take anything away from HH, but there are differences between his designs and final sculpts and these other artist never get recognition for their input.
I remembered this movie from my childhood & recently reconnected with it, buying the movie in both Digital Streaming & BluRay. How do I buy this figure?
I hope i can have that scale figurine collection for my own collection. I am an avid GODZILLA FAN. I HAVE SIX NECA GODZILLA FIGURES THE HESEI SERIES STILL IN BOX NEVER BEEN OPENED OR BEEN PEEK AT REMOVED THEM FROM THEIR BOXES. 😊
