Let's explore one of the most astonishing burial grounds - the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. Located in Upper Egypt on the western bank of the Nile, opposite the ancient city of Thebes/Memphis, the ancient cemetery is surrounded by high cliffs with pyramid-like shaped peaks. The place became famous in 1922 when Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun - the boy pharaoh, but it was only one of more than 60 tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The members of the highest Egyptian society of the New Kingdom (the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasty) were interred here: pharaohs, queens, high priests, and nobles.
Today we’ll focus on the 20th dynasty that is mainly known for Ramesses III (successor of two Great Pharaohs: Ramasses the Great and Sety I). Last time we were inside the tombs of the great pharaohs: Ramesses I, Merenptah, Sety II, and the last female pharaoh Tausert/Twosret. Join me today and explore the tombs of Ramesses III, Ramasses V and Ramses VI, as well as Ramesses VII, and Ramesses IX. After watching this video, you’ll know why the 20th dynasty is also known as the Ramesside period. Let’s admire beautiful carvings and paintings depicting main Egyptian gods like Osiris, Isis, Anubis, or Horus as well as scenes from the ancient Egyptian funerary texts.
Let’s get to know more about the ancient history, beliefs, and architecture of this wonderful place!
Explored in February 2022.

Ancient Sites, I literally have a question or a comment for every minute you show! But let's see if I can remember them from this crazy cat lady! 1. Your hair is such a stunning colour. First thing I noticed this video lol besides the funny braying donkey! 2. I noticed this area seems to be an even more dry and barren place than ever. That they rocks almost appear as if they were melted millennia ago. You described them as being almost pyramidal at the tops. Do you think it's possible that they could have been pyramids maybe 100 000 years ago and possibly melted by a micronova from the sun or extreme solar flare and then heavily eroded or are you not into possible ancient cataclysm events? 3. I love Egyptian art but I think my favourite is their depictions of animals and birds - the falcons, vultures, herons and even geese are exquisite, so life-like and anatomically correct it's incredible. To think their were likely thousands of artists over the dynasties I just can't understand how they are all almost exactly the same! It's almost as if they had stencils to trace them repeatedly! 4. I noticed some are a sort of bas relief shallowly carved and some directly painted on to the walls. Do you know why this is? Also are they carved into a layer of plaster or directly into rock? 5. I noticed graffiti scratched into some areas which is so annoying don't you think? Is there any other means of protecting these works other than fairly ineffective perspex screens that only partially cover them? I also saw some fairly sloppy plaster repairs but also some better repairs. 6. Would you agree that all the pieces of sarcophagi etc spread around the world should be returned to their country of origin. Not just Egyptian but Greek, Hindu, Inca etc? 7. Lastly those lights hahaha! They work very well to display the work but not so well for video lol!

The Valley of the Kings in Luxor is one of the oldest tombs. It is located west of Luxor. It is considered the first royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings, the tomb of Tuthmosis the First, one of the greatest kings of the 18th dynasty. Thank you for this wonderful and amazing presentation. Greetings to you

Some tombs in the valley of kings are spectacular. Like Egyptian temples, they are a library of information, but the books are written on the walls. AS, you must have a Degree or PHD to know this level of information ?. Egyptology is my thing and even I learn something new from your vids. My favourite tomb is that of Nefertari in the Queen valley, but I know they don't let anyone in there. Big shout to whoever does the film work and editing...rEspect to ya AS.
@ancientsitesgirl
@ancientsitesgirl 2 года назад
Thank you Darren! :) I This level of information is a consequence of hours, and I mean MANY hours of research. 😁 Egyptology / Ancient history is just my passion. I think the tomb of Nefertari is open, but it's strictly forbidden to film in there or to stay longer than 15min. I think 🤔.

Video banding. The flickering you're seeing is probably due to the fluorescent lighting used in there. Fluorescent lighting runs at about 50-60Hz and is not constantly on, it flicks on and off, so you want to try and match that with your camera settings. You can try the fps so 25fps or 30fps or you can try your shutter speed to be a multiple of either 60 or 50. You will see the dark bands on still images of the settings are slightly off as well. Another cracking video again!! 👍

Awesome documentary as always. Dont worry about the flashing lights, you could see everything perfect, I liked it, it made it feel quite spiritual 🙂 I wonder if they also burned the ganja as incense at this point or even smoked it. It was known as shemshemet, the name of it on Egyptian Hieroglyphs and was supposed to be created by the Sun God Ra. The use of cannabis in Ancient Egypt was researched by Mr. Venice Ibrahim Attia, the main conservator in the Coptic Museum of Cairo. The uses included rope, sails, ingredients in medicine, foods and oil. Egyptians were the first civilization to fully adopt the holistic use of ganja. It was found on the Mummy of Ramesses II, it was also confirmed on the content of Papyrus Scrolls in ancient tombs and wall paintings in Karnak and Abu Simbel Temples. Thankyou Peace Goddess Stay safe 🧡🧡🧡
