The undisputed King of Reggae Dub had a massive influence on me as a young man. Yes, it was late at night in the late 70's and I had been smokin' some very potent green. Sydney radio station JJ 1540 AM were well known for playing experimental and avant garde music. That's where I first heard Lee ' Scratch ' Perry. In June 1980, JJ became JJJ 105.7 FM and the music sounded even better. Superlatives cannot describe or do justice to the man and his contribution to music, art and culture.
A true best of Perry would be about 40 albums long . His catalog is a gift that leads you into the deepest level of the Jamaican / reggae message to the world . As great as Marley , with a twist of gonzo bent freakiness .
William Shirer described Wagner as a "towering genius of monumental importance". Even a casual look at Scratch's catalogue, footprint and influence confirms that he's absolutely no less.
Im sorry but i have to say something here? I love this mans music and have been collecting for years, as i scroll thru this line up as Lee Perry best all time...... i disagree whole hardly about this lineup? There are possibly four great tracks on this lineup but thats it? Out of ALL this mans music both on vinyl and CD this is all you come up with? Damn Man!! What about his very first album his 3 Lp album? Its a very difficult decision for me to say wich is his very best because this man has a wide wide variety of Best ever tracks in my opinion. There are many tracks im so certain people havent even heard yet? I have so many tracks from this man, whos really listening to Lee Perrys music truthfully? Im still trying to catch up with his music and the man is gone, the man is gone and remarkably still making albums dropping in Feb2024? Truth

"Bird In Hand" is actually a cover of an Indian song named "Milte Hi Aankhein". It was featured in the 1950 film Babul, sung by Talat Mehmood and Shamshad Begum.
