If you use a mag mount 2m/70cm antenna on a window sill or balcony, provide it with a ground plane. I have a mag mount on my window sill, and a cut opened Rice Bubbles box covered in aluminium foil.
Nagoya antennas are a pain now, as there are so many counterfeits out there that it's very difficult to be sure if you get a genuine one (unless you have a reputable speciallized radio shack, you can trust in your area - even then not 100% sure).... Diamond antennas, although no one mentions them, are an excellent alternative (not so much copied) and Signal Stick even better (if you live in the US)... 73s

yah, I put my uv82's antenna on a vna and it was resonant at 412 mhz and in the airband :) wasted... 1, I dont work for ambos so 412 is useless, and 2 baofengs dont do AM even in airband so double useless. in ham bands, both were around 4:1 at best
Best place for a Baofeng radio is the BIN!! I've looked one a friend has, which is now just a paperweight. I'll never buy one. Same applies with Kenwood, which I call "crapwood". I much prefer Yaesu or Icom.
@@christophermarshall5765 when I bought these for my son some walkie talkies I was unaware I was unknowingly enlisted in the ranks of a ham radio turf war ....I now know this cause was what my life was always leading up to and now will gladly make the ultimate sacrifice for my baofeng brethren....you can oppress us but we will never pay over 50$ dollars for a handheld radio....
I know so very little about this hobby, but I'm trying to learn... What antenna do you suggest for the Baofeng UV-17 PRO GPS? It's a tri band and I'd love to improve the AM capabilities.
